  1. Find a buddy with a Reverb and your favorite module and make up your mind at his place. Everything you hear from people who love/hate VR is biased by the time and money invested in VR. I went from a 1080p monitor to SO+ and the first time I tried VR I said "Oh Hell Yeah".
  2. Cool - glad I could help... :)
  3. Inside the mission Esc Adjust Controls Axis Assign scroll down to wheel brake left and click it Axis Tune and turn on Slider and click Invert same for the wheel brake right click OK return to mission and hit R-Ctrl+Enter to see effect
  4. Retreating blade stall, mast bumping, rotor collisions... Not the way man was meant to fly - helicopters should be illegal - they're just wrong :megalol:
  5. If you enjoyed Boyd's bio here is an interview with the author https://www.artofmanliness.com/articles/podcast-101-the-fighter-pilot-who-changed-the-art-of-war-with-robert-coram/ The Airforce hates Boyd and the Marines love him...
  6. The low price was $300 so $150 + shipping sounds about right. I'm thinking about upgrading to the Reverb but I need to find a surgeon to change my IPD to 63. Probably have to remove 4mm from the part of the brain connecting the two halves but I don't think that'll have any effect on my flight simming. I usually donate old computer gear to the high school computer instructor but in this case I'll keep the Samsung controllers after making sure they can pair with the Reverb.
  7. Thanks Fenrir - that cockpit looks like it was designed by a locomotive manufacturer. The landing gear hydraulic manifold must weigh thrity pounds by itself.

    Offline updates

I've seen civilization - you can keep it. :megalol: My only internet option is satellite. A grand total of 25 Gb per month with a free period between midnight and 5 AM. If updates take more than five hours I stop the download and restart at midnight.

    New Aircraft

Skunk, Sorry to hear about your health problems - life is cruel sometimes. Have you read Chuck's guide to the F-18? He explains things in a straight forward way. Not as in-depth as the manual that comes with the jet but he hits the high points without prolix verbulations. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=135765 Maybe it would help you figure the beast out a bit more and get some use out of it. Oddly enough, I spend most of my time in the TF-51 just sight-seeing and trying to keep my landings down below 2G.

    New Aircraft

Another retired guy here... I gave up motorcycles for just the reasons you mention - too many consequences for a slow decision. The F-18 does have a lot of clicks to get where you want. Last night I flew around for an hour just enjoying the view and was setting up to land when I noticed the velocity vector was stuck above the horizon. Flew an entire flight without moving the knob to NAV - felt like I'd left the turn signal on the whole time. That being said I find the jets simpler to fly once you get over the clickage part. An F-18 landing is a 120 knot crash onto concrete. If you want really easy flight get the Christen Eagle II or the L-39. They are both a kick in the butt and a bunch of fun. I'm looking forward to the 190 A-8 next month but it's still harder to fly than my F-18 - except for all the clicks... :smilewink: Edit - if money is tight wait until the Christmas sales but new modules are rarely on sale so it might take a while.
  11. Biography of John Boyd - father of the F-16 https://www.amazon.com/Boyd-Fighter-Pilot-Who-Changed-ebook/dp/B000FA5UEG
  12. Willie, start here for settings. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=229510 Harlikwin has since built a better system. I'm not psychic but I see a computer upgrade in your future. VR is amazing isn't it?
  13. Turn up your side lamps - rheostats on the right side of the cockpit. RUFO-45... :book: Took a while for me to find it too.
  14. You can download Windows Mixed Reality from Steam. No need for the M$ store... I'm running Win10 1803 17134.590 - WMR works fine with it.
  15. The Odyssey has a knob that adjusts IPD physically and shows the current IPD onscreen. Much better than software IPD adjustment...
  16. The Odyssey+ doesn't use external camera towers like the Rift. Cameras are built into the HMD along with position sensors. Whether the Odyssey image is better than the Rift is subjective. Sounds like you're sold on VR though. This forum is a great help for setting up VR which ever way you decide to go.
  17. https://www.amazon.com/Dr-Jills-Center-Aperture-Count/dp/B01A0E1RU2/ref=pd_day0_c_194_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01A0E1RU2&pd_rd_r=1ae790f0-2f0b-11e9-910d-c707fb6d7b72&pd_rd_w=rpphO&pd_rd_wg=0Xiy9&pf_rd_p=fda7cfe5-3364-4578-ae5e-ac4ab3645932&pf_rd_r=BETW2S3XE05EM4AXW11E&psc=1&refRID=BETW2S3XE05EM4AXW11E For God sake don't buy it at Amazon - resellers jack up prices to rediculus levels there. Just go to the local drug store and ask for foot pads. You're looking for something made of silicone or felt to widen the gap between the O+ and the foam. The foam on the O+ is about perfect but just needs to be reshaped. Felt floor protectors would also work... Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Self-Stick-Furniture-Round-Felt-Surfaces/dp/B001WAK5XE/ref=sr_1_7?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1550006539&sr=1-7&keywords=felt+chair+floor+protectors Just cut to size You could use cardboard note pad backing for that matter. Just let your imagination run wild. The new gap on mine only measures 0.200 inch. YMMV...
  18. Nice straps... I made mine out of paracord - the stuff that dreams are made of. Use masking tape to mark where your cheekbones are; pull the O+ foam away and insert DrScholls pads under the foam and push it back in place. I can wear my O+ for hours now without pain. Let me know how it turns out.
  19. Apply air Wait until RPM is above 10% Hit Start Move throttle to idle or not...
  20. If you have the F-5 switch off the roll damper, dive to the deck with afterburners and shove the stick max left for a while. Have a bucket ready... :puke: I did it the second day of VR. Felt like a cat in a clothes dryer.
  21. I made a yoke for the top of my head from paracord. Looks like the top of the Oculus. The face foam is held on by Velcro - you can change the shape by slipping Dr Scholls pads under it. My large nose was being rubbed raw from the HMD resting on it until I changed these two things. Weight is now supported by top of the head, forehead and cheeks.
  22. Haven't seen anything like that and I spend a lot of time in the L-39 at midnight over Nevada.
  23. I was having crashes in the Caucasus - didn't seem to affect PG or Nevada. Tried everything - checked video driver, clean and repair, deleted fxo, metashaders and logs, deleted and recreated my P-51 missions - constant crashes - about as much fun as Fyre Festival. Shut down Asus GPU Tweak before starting TrackIR and DCS and the crashes stopped. Now I can fly the P-51 from Batumi to Anapa without problems - tested all day yesterday. Flew missions for hours without black screen crashes. When I started AGT with the Monitor screen the crashes would return. :pilotfly:
  24. Thanks guys - just finished a hour long flight in the P-51 in Nevada with no problems. Before I posted the bug report I tried the same mission with the same result two other times and that along with the Huey CTD during damage made me think it might be related. Later after shutting down the computer for a meal I tried the mission again and killed the engine twice without a CTD. Once braking in place while firewalling and the other screaming down the taxiway and getting some altitude before the engine shut down. Both times the mission continued without a problem. The third time I cranked the stupid up a notch and took off firewalling and hung from the prop for ten minutes. That time the engine didn't shut down probably warmed up enough while taxiing - flew around with the nose up until grew bored with this new way of flying and decided to land. Got a CTD on final when I was thirty seconds from touchdown. No mods, no overclocking except a 4.2 to 4.5 bump of the CPU, single player only... Had the 2080Ti since 19 Dec - ran fine in 2.5.3 - updated to 2.5.4 two days ago - runs cool 50C Just another data point - love the new cockpit for the P-51 by the way
  25. P-51 blown engine causes CTD for me in 2.5.4 Start cold engine and firewall throttle and prop rpm
