    Pushback

Would personally love to see it, although it's unlikely to happen. They've been quiet for the past few weeks trying to eliminate 2500 bugs without creating another 25K
  2. Please do not get into get into the habit of using the paddle switch. No real F/A-18 pilot ever used it unless they were desperately trying to avoid becoming one with planet Earth. Like mentioned above, if you overgee your acft best case scenario your jet is down for a couple of weeks while they try to figure out if anything is broken. Worst case somehing comes loose right after your maneuver and you're a sitting duck for your opponent. Otherwise congrats on beating the Fishbed. Took me a long time and lots of effort.
  3. Always learning. I'd never looked at the standby and did not know about the needles. I'lltry to fly off of that on my next 4 min circles. Thanks! Also, I think I said 1 min per 45* on my post above when I meant 1 min per 90*
  4. What Razor said. What I think really changed things for me was holding at 300kt GS (another GB hint). So that's my single greatest recommendation. At 300kts GS, you'll always be covering 5 nm in a minute, no matter the wind. This precludes the use of ATC during your holdings, since you have to constantly account for wind speed/direction. What I've been doing as of late is flying 4 min circles 5 nm (or 1 min) behind assigned marshall fix. That way I have a 1 min buffer to compensate deviations in my holding pattern and arrive at the fix on time. Finally, to fly a 4 min circle use the ADI to help you fly a half standard rate turn: in other words you'll cover 45 degrees every minute. PS: oh, and draw everything out in a piece of paper. That way you know where your're supposed to be at every minute before your push time and adjust accordingly.
  5. Considering the amount of problems as of late I'd be surprised if they had the time to work on anything at all other than fixing bugs for the forseeable future. Sad to say a lot of people I fly with have given up on DCS and are looking elsewhere. I'm not a fanboy but I sure wish they got their s@#t together and made this enjoyable once again. Nothing beats a functional Hornet on a Supercarrier with your buddies.
  6. Swift is right. Sometimes the light works (which seems waaaaay too bright btw) and sometimes it doesn't. In all instances the pinky switch is all the way fwd.
  7. Same here. Feels that after I land on the deck the vapour lights are really bright but the LA lights I can only make out roughly when I'm at 1 nm or less, as opposed to the alignment light which I can see from outer space.
  8. Thank you both Jackjack and Hobbytech. This is what I was looking for!
  9. Indeed I have thank you. I was trying to build my own though
  10. Hey guys, I know Google has some images, but I'd like to know if anyone here knows a repository of images from different carriers in different flight deck conditions to be able to create realistic templates for my missions. I know the deck is a fluid thing that changes many times a day during cyclic ops, but I'd like to get a feeling of what it might look like in different situations. Does anyone have a document or some such thing that teaches us how they plan the Ouija board for the day's events as well? This way, I'd be able to mix and match and not resort to repetitive images. Thanks
  11. 5MC would be so simple to implement and add so much to immersion... Imagine hearing it with the canopy open and hearing the whine of a bunch of jet engines starting up to make an on-time launch. I'd love to see that And to be fair, there's room for much improvement but all in all we've never seen anything like. It's amazing. Try using good ol' Stennis for a change and you'll see how awesome it is.
  12. Could anybody please refer me to the documentation where this is explained. They changed the TGP hotas mapping completely and didn’t tell us about it except for Wag’s vídeo which doesn’t go in depth enough. Is this how the Litening is mapped to the real acft?
  13. If I undestand it correctly there's no such thing as being "forced to land" when you're waved off. a WO is always a WO, and paddles alweays has the last word. And I think it's context related. Are you a well-liked and earnest nugget who was trying to get aboard after the 3rd straight bolter in blue water ops in a rough night at the boat? You'll probably get chewed down but your career is preserved. Are you the air wing's most detested pilot in the ready rooms and in the air? Things might change... I'm sure GB can fuirther clarify
  14. I'm not one to complain, but what a wonderful thing it would be to have just a little documentation on the massive changes occuring to the pod. As it stands a totally new targeting pod was dropped on us with almost no explanation and no references. I've no idea which one is the closer to the real deal.
  15. aaaaaaaand here we go again. (grabs popcorn in anticipation of air-quakers' response)
  16. You're right. I missed the 80 kts at 6000'. Could happen but not common at all - at least I've yet to see it. But would Natops include tactical stuff?
  17. haha, just a lame joke. But thanks for the info. Seriously though, the reason for it is that I actually searched vaicom the first time I heard of it here because iof its mispelled prevalence in these forums! Haven't tried it myself. Is it worth it?
  18. Enough with the hurricane wind nonsense please. Those winds are not unrealistic. Just look at any winds aloft progx chart (hint: NOAA's aviation website) and you'll see that apart from the equator a wind ocmponent of at least 50 to 60kts is quite common starting in the upper flight levels. I've seen 150 kt tailwinds in the North Atlantic in FL350 - and it's not that uncommon. Two hours away from where I live there's a windsufing paradise where surface winds of 20-25kts with 35kt gusts are the norm. With that said, I'm not privy to tactics in lasing where strong winds are expected. That does not mean sich a thing doesn't exist. That A10 vid posted above is the first I heard of it - again this just shows I haven't researched enough, and not that it isn't true. The tough thing is knowing what is a sim-ism (to quote Lex) and what's real tactics. Personally I always though the bomb owuld just whistle away towards the lased surface with enough kinetic energy in it. (edited for grammar)
  19. In cyclic opsops you don't get assigned a stack altitude when heading back. It's pre-briefed and every squadron gets assigned an altitude by CAG. That's what happens when deployed anyway. In CQ it's completely different and yes, airboss would tell you at which altitude to hold. Also "signal charile"is only a thing in CQ. In cyclic ops the guys holding at angels 2 "simply" hawk the deck to see the appropriate time to commence. ED kinda put cyclic and CQ ops in the same basket comms-wise
  20. Are you guys using the laser range finder to further increase accuracy? Just a thought? I've never used this technique myself but supposedly it increases reliability
  21. Well the title says it all. I boltered on a particularly nasty approach and had to vector myself to FB about 6 nm out. From what I recall CATCC should've vectored me back to bullseye at some point after turning downwind at 1200' correct? So is this modeled as of yet? What I did was turn back in around 6 DME on my own and via the radio menu got approach to control me once again.
  22. I think 80* offset might be a little more than we bargained for. Let's see what Creepy, GB or Lex have to say about this
  23. Would be really cool if a plane captain and ordies were added for these cold and dark starts. No need for a radio menu. Just have the AI do what they'd do in real life with no crew input
  24. Nope. We'll berate because that's what's expected in these forums. All good buddy. We're not USN pilots (not all of us at least)
