  1. Seems like this is a problem with the game not capturing the mouse pointer properly, or some such. I usually can't hit any buttons in the cockpit either, until I alt-tab out and back in.
  2. As I found out on a low pullout... Got slow, slammed the throttle forward, and was rewarded with a loud bang, then silence! At least I got it down OK in a field nearby :).
  3. Ahh, thanks! I was wondering why I couldn't seem to turn it off. Now I know I just have to keep the throttle below max after hitting WEP.
  4. I got cocky, since I have maybe 40 hours of taildragger time under my belt. Took off OK, a little wobbly, and landed what I THOUGHT was a perfect 3-pointer, only to realize that I was about ten feet up when I stalled out... Damn sims messing with my height perception :). Still landed, but I bent one of the main gear legs a little. It's a damn good feeling when you finally nail a landing in this beast!
  5. Could the instructor please specify what the correct lighting setup is in the startup mission? Just in case I want to set it up manually using the lighting panel... I can use the keyboard or HOTAS shortcuts, but it'd be nice to have the option.
  6. Oooohh! Now I get it! I was wondering why the hell I kept seeing little flashes on the ground in front of me several seconds after shooting.
  7. The "normal" way to climb ANY airplane is to maintain the desired climb speed and climb steadily... A sawtooth climb like the OP describes is only common in some motor gliders.
  8. I, like most people here, have lots of time in various simulators, and love to fly helos in DCS, X-Plane and so on. I also have a glider PPL and about 300 hours. When I tried a helicopter I found that I had no problem whatsoever flying it straight and level, turning etc - not surprising, considering it controls like an airplane except with less pedal input in turns. Hovering was another matter, I could hold it within about a 10-20 foot circle, but that's nowhere near enough to land without tipping it over or breaking something important. Still, the instructor did put his hands and feet up to show the people on the ground that it was me hovering, and I think I'd have a head start if I tried to get a PPL-H today, not least because the sim really helps you understand what's going on, what systems do what and so on. That said, flying any amount of hours in a simulator won't teach you the necessary stick-and-rudder skills to safely operate an aircraft, but it'll give you a better idea of what's going on that if you had never seen the inside of a virtual aircraft.
  9. Some helos can do that, like the Lynx and the Wasp, but as far as I've read only when the cyclic is centered, to avoid uneven loads on the rotor head. It's not something you do in the air. The point most people miss when thinking about a looping helicopter, is that from the helicopters perspective it's NOT upside down. The whole maneuver is usually flown with a positive G load, just like in a normal airplane (although in an airplane you'd push a little at the top to make the loop fully round, but you're usually never below 0G).
  10. Well, that makes me feel a little better :). Now if TrackIR would only let me transfer my Vector from my old (broken) one to my new one, the world would be a better place :).
  11. I just purchased the download english version of DCS: BS, run it and eventually a popup asks for my serial number. I put it in, hit "next" and get this: Activation denied by server. Определенные пользователем параметры некорректны. Проверьте параметры и, если ошибка повторится, обратитесь в службу технической поддержки. (Cannot pass a GCHandle across AppDomains. Parameter name: handle) I've also tried the alternate way of registering on the starforce website, but I get the same error message there. Any help appreciated, I'd like to be able to play the game I just paid $50 for, if that's OK!
