  1. ... when you're driving down the highway and you see something off to the side, and you're not sure what it is so you lean toward it expecting TrackIR will zoom the image.
  2. Personally I want to have the update to the engine to fly BS smoother. multi-thread - multi-thread - multi-thread - multi-thread - multi-thread - multi-thread - multi-thread
  3. Read Ed Macy's Apache. There are a few times in there where he talks about rocket attacks. The book is not a trainer, rather it is a great read, but it helped me wrap my head around rockets.
  4. I understand that the A-A or A-A head-on settings control the fuse timing on the warhead (i.e. will make it blow up when it is near them even if it does not hit them). I don't think it can do much about aiming/tracking. Remember, it is trying to follow a laser line pointed AT the target, and if the target is traversing your range, there's no way the missle can make the necessary adjustments in the last moments of it's flight. I have found, from experience, that the best chance is to hang out, dance around their shots (flares & side-slip) and wait for them to start a turn direct at or away from you. As soon as they look like they will start turning that way, let a Vikhr loose and make sure you keep the target las'd. Also, if they get close enuf for cannon, cannon shots track VERY well on moving air targets. And finally, the most fun i've had with A-A is using rockets. He's gotta be close enuf I can see myself in the reflection of the pilot's visor, but that makes it more fun. Long setting, clear the tubes on the bad guy, fingers crossed and use flares like you're over-stocked and they're on sale!
  5. I was having trouble with vhikr long & meduim double-firing as you describe, and I saw a post here a few weeks ago where someone suggested it has to do with the recoil movement of the airframe which causes the target to momentarially move slighly out of C lock. He suggested being extra careful to center the thing-on-the-thing before launch. I think there's something to his theory, as my double-launch has been more consistent since I have taken more care.
  6. TrackIR took a few moments to get used to, and you'll find it natrual. Started with freetrack for a few months but the real TR does a much better job for me. Recently I had to send my TR5 back for replacement (it had trouble with the latest software) and during the week when it was being shipped back & forth I could not bring myself to play DCS, ROF or ARMAII. Head-tracking is simply necessary for me now.
  7. rather not settle for a work-around. I'm really hoping someone can tell us "just change setting XYZ in the ULA". come on, anyone? Beuler?
  8. Pardon my French, but this change sucks. This situation Andyfoot is talking about is the same thing I asked about in http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=44114 I don't like it, not one bit. I prefer the world of the campaign over just flying individual missions, in that it has something of a story, a progression, mildly more cool than just flying individual missions, but geeze, the op-for is quite on the ball sometimes, so I get my butt blown up, ... so I want to fly that again, not go back, but ... but why?!?!? Why is it important to the programmers that I really, "legitimate"ly win/loose? Sure, if this were a test to get my wings for the Russian Army, yea, no "cheating", but this "game"/"simulation" is for my enjoyment, and one of the things I enjoy most is "damn you, tank-hidden-behind-a-hill, I'll get you this next time". I mean, sure, I understand that a "real" pilot has no such 2nd chance, but really! Are you afraid that when I complete the entire campaign (at my v1.0 rate that would take another year or so) and I start bragging on the forum, that players to had "legitimate" success would be slighted? huh? Unless you're planning to provide an easy/medium/hard option for the AI's on-the-ball-ness, please replace the ability to refly campaign missions. please. thank you.
  9. Little help please; when I exit the simulation, in 1.0 I was able to click Fly Again. I had some mods so I un-registered, un-installed, made sure the installation folder was gone & empty, re-installed, installed the 1.0.1 update, re-registered, and I have flown a few campaign flights and always the Fly Again is disabled. Please tell me it's something stupid on my end and not a feature of 1.0.1.
  10. affinity is most surely working in 1.0.1 (on my quad)
  11. Thank you Wags & ED !!! I am downloading the update and I’ve canceled my date tonight. My girlfriend hates “the helicopter game”. (it’s a simulation, sweetie, a simulation!) I wonder if you could elaborate on the general nature of AI behavior. I recall seeing a post from EB a long time ago saying how heat-seeking missiles will be on the battlefield and there were many requests for wingmen to attack from stand-off and the such. The list of changes is quite long, so please forgive me if this is addressed in the ReadMe, but are there conceptual changes, broad things that we might not be getting from the details in the ReadMe?
  12. I feel your pain. I've got a quad 3.4 that I have pushed up to about 3.7 and I still stick around 25fps unless I am looking at an empty field and empty sky, then I get around 50, and when I'm looking at a busy battle it can drop to 12. I am sure it is the processor. I can max out nHancer settings with no drop, drop video settings with no speed benefit. (if I bump DCS view distance to high or scene to high it hurts, but with those on medium I can have everything else pumped) I'm loving my time with this simulation, but I am looking forward to multi-core support and a smoother video engine and/or other enhancements in later modules like A-10 mostly in hopes that I will be able to fly the BlackShark in a better digital environment.
  13. Artillery minding my own business, flying the directed path, i get blasted by friendly artillery. do you think maybe they should have heard me coming, maybe hold fire for a moment? Artillery.trk
  14. Example of well-trimmed Ka-50 A well trimmed helo should happily stay in position after you die.
  15. Is "Area 51" going to be part of the map???
  16. Congo, I'm curious where all that information came from... Seems like a large volume of information with quite a bit of detail to not have a copyright on it (but I don't see any little © on any of those images).
  17. Any way for non-UK'ers to watch these videos?
  18. Anything that just "seems to happen after playing for a few hours" is likely related to heat. Unless you can think of some other trigger (like it happens when you approach a target or happens when you press a button) bet you'll find your box is a bit toasty.
  19. So, we're on the tail end of a mission, I'm hovering over water trying to pick off a few more bad guys before I land, I hear "I'm hit!" oh bummer, but I guess that means wingie still alive so he'll make it home. Nope, he was in the mood to land. On water. I'm watching him inch down wondering why AI doesn't know water is not a valid landing point... well, he showed me. watched as he landed (with a slight tilt because one of his tires was blown out) and power down. Nifty trick!
  20. OldFlyer, do forgive the harsh tone of some of these posts. Many of us have been flying this thing for months and patience with humans is not a trait of sim'ers. (we have enormous patience with technology, just not humans) I bet that you're just trying to fly around and take a look at the world thru BS. Military aircraft... not intended for joy-riding, intended to lift off from A, go to B, blow up C, return to A, no detours, no pit-stops. So, I think you can get your rocks off by: 1) TURN ON stabilzation controlls 2) TURN ON flight director Flight director will provide the stablization functions, but will allow you to point yourself where ever you want and go. Without flight director on the helo wants to go to B and if you try to detour you will feel like you're riding an angry bull.
  21. My impression is that Turn 2 Target will only work while you are in ROUTE or HOVER mode. If you are just "hovering" manually and are not in HOVER mode, (and you are not in ROUTE mode), my experience is that Turn 2 Target does not do anything. Maybe a bug? maybe the way it works IRL? Surely the way it works in DCS-BS.
  22. So, it's Sunday afternoon and I am supposed to go out to dinner with my sweetie, but I am napping on the couch (sleeping off a late-night session with BS). She's been on the porch for 15 minutes ringing the bell and knocking on the door and finally lets herself in with the spare key and is glaring over me as I wake up... all this is bad, and rather typical for the male of the species, but the kicker comes in when she asks why I didn't hear the door bell... my reply, coming out of deep REM sleep, is "The cobras came out of nowhere ..." so now I'm making up stories about deadly vipers ... "... and I was too far infront of my AA ..." lost her on that one "... and I could see the missle just before it hit me." Thus ended the evening and started a 3-day series of apology & explaining. And I consider myself lucky in that we decided to live in different apartments just a few weeks before BS came out. If we still lived together I think there would be "rules" about when my Saitek can be out... If it wasn't so cruel I'd suggest a poll for $$$ spent on a new computer to run BS vs. $$$ spent on a lawyer to settle the divorce caused by over-play of BS.
  23. Reviewing a track I noticed that the AI artiliary is firing on friendly ground forces. At best, this wouldn't happen. At least, if an AI force fires upon friendly forces the logic should reflect that RL forces would be on the radio screaming to cease, so in sim, after 1 shot near a friendly the AI should stop firing immediately.
  24. Mode Selector wheel constantly sends the command, so if you map it to a key stroke, it will repeat it forever. You can do an Advanced Command and that will keep it from repeating forever. You'll have to clear the mode functions (delete the column or change the mode with right-click on column header) I use the wheel for shkval zoom, and pinky+wheel for target box size. I've noticed severl posts where others do the same, so I suggest that rather than the wheel, but in any case, same idea, make bands.
  25. The Falcon community will not be won over until they get a dynamic campaign. Falcon, to me, is more about the campaign engine than anything else. I like the f-16 and all, but the specific plane was never the point for me in that game. It was the campaign that made it compelling. If ED makes the campaign work like Falcon then I'll forget I ever played anything before DCS. The Longbow community will not be completely won over because the Longbow radar was really such a core part of how one uses that chopper vs how the Apache is used, and ED won't do the Longbow until it has the specs on how it works, i.e. long long time. I've been so very overjoyed at finally having something that satisfies my personal thing for chopper combat, and the BS is a fun vehicle for that, but I still long for how the Longbow could sit behind a ridge, identify out multiple targets, hit a button and watch the wings light up as all the targets are engaged at once.
