Thanks for the kind words! And yeah it seems that barely anyone knew about these mods till i started skinning and sharing some work in progress skins. VSN also has a very nice F-16 mod, but no template for me to work with, otherwise i would have started on the F-16 first.

@waow, maybe, the skins i make are first for myself, so they should interest me. Sorry but..this does not look very exciting:

No, unfortunately no howling :) but it does sound good.

The mod already includes one Italian Skin, so its not a high priority, and since I am Dutch, it was a high priority for me to make some Dutch skins :music_whistling: After a couple Japanese skins, I will probably do a German Marine F-104 or 2, then Belgian or American, and maybe, and thats a big maybe i will try something like this in the future: .

Just uploaded it to the DCS site, pending moderator approval it should be available for download sometime today/tomorrow. Some nitpickers already have stated a couple times on Reddit that it`s not possible for the F-104G to carry wingtip Aim-7`s, so please don`t reply with this information. And sneak preview of my next project:

Thanks for your help Dingo, unfortunately I only saw it after i finished the skin. Working on the 322sq skins now.

Thanks for the reactions. The camouflages are still driving me nuts, so to get my mind of them I created a couple QF-104 skins based upon the QF-104`s that flew in the 60`s as targets for the then flying F-102 and F-106. Not a big demand for drones, but I like using them in my Red Flag like missions. Should be up to download after administrator approval:

-update, these are the remaining trouble spots.. trying to get the camo to overlap correctly on 3-4 different skin files is pretty damn hard (and new for me), for example the cockpit area circled in green took me wel over 3 hours to match up, seeing as the body, back window, middle window, front window and nose are all separate from each other in the skin file.. But have plenty of time today/tomorrow, so it should be done by then, and i`l probably just replace the 65 years stuff on the tail with the default colors, place the roundels for 322sq, change the registration number and the pack should be up sometime this weekend. Having a pretty damn hard time with that camouflage though..

Hey Folks, i tried to recreate the famous Edwards AFB White & Red livery used by F-15 & F-16`s, but now i`m looking to get that same high gloss finish.. I read through the roughmet guide, but after 3 reads its still a big riddle for me. So does any experienced skinner know which line i should add to the .lua to get that shine?. Thanks in advance.

Awesome skins!, big fan of the non-regular combat unit skins, such as the Edwards, Nellis, Eglin skins, and of course the naval VX units.

Thanks Skate!.

Hey Folks, I have a couple questions about the Strikeagle, and Hornet in the foreground, a skin i`ve finished, and one i just started to work on. About the Hornet in the foreground, is it possible to recreate the high gloss color paint, in combination with a satin/matt grey base coat?. Such as the original plane: And about the AI F-15E The F-15E folder, and .lua looks like this: So..does anyone know where DCS is getting the serial number/tailcode/tail banner/command shield from?.. No sign of any Lakenheath insignia in photoshop: Thanks for any tips you might have!. kr m0j0

Thanks for the help/tips/video`s. Skin has been uploaded for those interested: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3304272/

That looks pretty good!. I imagine you just changed the badge to greyscale? (something that popped into my head earlier today). Anyway, I took your image, and modified it to: About 30 minutes of removing all the filled areas so only the wireframe remains. Looks pretty good right?, not the correct position but this was just a test. Compared to the real thing: Thanks for the tips, and Joey for his work.

Well i need it only in black, with transparent bits, and the only one i can find is such low res that i`m unable to convert it from color, and still keep the quality high. Converting the Material Command Shield, from this: To this: Was easy in photoshop, but i can`t find a 40th TES shield in this size. I`m pretty familiar when it comes to Photoshop, but vectors and the software to work with them are a riddle.

Hey Folks, Started my first skin 3 days ago (see main thread about QA-10C), and I kinda Feel the Neeeedd to skin :D but have run into an issue with my current project: To recreate the Air Force Material Command shield on the tail of the craft, i googled it, and found a .png close to about 4k in size, which made it real easy to modify it so it looks like the black/transpant version found on this A-10. But now, I need the 40th FST Badge to do on the side of the plane, and the largest image ive been able to find of this badge is a 330x330 JPG... so no joy trying to change that from full color to black/transparent. So i`m wondering, for the experienced skinners, where do you get your emblems/patches/shields?, and any tips for when the one you need is nowhere to be found and you need to recreate it yourself?. Kr, m0j0.

QA-10 :) first attempt at skinning, progress day 1.
m0j0NL replied to m0j0NL's topic in Liveries/Skinning
Thanks for the compliment Winterz (fyi, i only did the A-10). Day 3 and i`m done..if i spent more time on the skin i`ll probably wreck it. Dirty enough, Orange bits i feel should be Orange are Orange, bit more wear and tear. Already started on Skin #2, this time its a real world A-10! :D -

Only after putting my WIP creation amongst the other drones I notice that the QF-4`s have wonky pilots.. Is there a way to remove their texture, and the pilot texture on my own creation to make it seem as though the cockpit is empty?. -

Day 2. Spent a couple hours fading features, dirtying up the plane, and thinking about what to wear and tear. This was my first time using the skin in game: Overall effect looks good, fading on decals, roundels and such is subtle enough, and the Orange looks like its the +- correct to real drone planes. First "mistake" the drone number on the nose needs to move. I like how the name tag/raven looks, still a hint of a previous owner. The USAF roundel could use a bit more faded wear and tear, looks to much like photoshop brushwork. The heaviest dirting i did around the 2 "holes" near the lightning/power symbol, on the template they were already dirty, but i upped it 200%, and looks ok to me, will use this color/technique to dirt up the rest as well. One thing i do find hard is trying to figure out on the template, which part goes where.. i was pretty sure i did both rudders in orange... guess not. But.. the rudders in their original grey does look pretty good..hmm what to do. Overall i`m happy with my progress, and by the time the F-16 module comes out i should have the finer details of skinning down to make a QF-16 skin or 2-3.. can`t wait to shoot them down! All Hail F-4 Phantom! :D -
Hey Folks, I`ve asked before on the forums if anyone had the time to make a QF-16 skin, but so far noone has found the time to reply/or is interested in doing this. No worries, but seeing as i`m pretty familiar with Photoshop i thought i would give it ago, but unfortunately i`m unable to find a template worth using (Only able to find one that is basically just 1 layer, instead of layers per element of the skin. So ok.. maybe i should try another plane then, and thus I have started to make a fictional version of a QA-10 :music_whistling: and have been using images of the QF-16, and the QF-4 as reference material. Specifically these 2: And after an hour or so this is where i am at, I know its only a tiny bit of the actual plane, but this still took me some time to get to a level where i would download it, and as a first time try i think my progress looks pretty good. Right now i have kind of figured out that i should keep my zoom level at a certain distance, and not try to almost add individual specs of dirt/wear/tear because most likely its not even visible in game. Does anyone have any tips that i can use to wear/tear/dirt up the rest of the A-10?, so that it for example looks like the QF-16? And anyone have any other remarks that i can build on?, what should i watch for while i continue?, what should i avoid modifying?, any layers on the A-10 that are off limits? or are all open to modification?. Any help would be appreciated

To be honest, the Hornet does sound a lot better than when it did on release, pretty sure that over the coming patches the sound of the F-14 will also see improvements. For me the first time I did a cold start it was the sound that impressed me first.

Add a kill marking or two? (three, four :) )
