  1. That's very helpful, thanks!
  2. Sure, what I said about hacks was not directed at your .lua file in particular but a general statement to the accessibility of sensitive code to end users. I recall patch notes last year correcting an issue that had up until then allowed users to alter weapons performance data. From a PvP perspective something like that is absolutely intolerable, and it's a certainty that a small percentage of the community exploit these weaknesses to the fullest. Because gamers be gamers. Not everyone approaches DCS from a sim perspective, some see it as just another game. Don't assume that you're the target of someone's negativity. I mean, it's not all negativity DCS has huge potential and ED have built something unique here but if they don't take steps to be ahead the future could be worse than uncertain. As I'm taking part in the SATAL league the hacking aspect worries me, but that doesn't at all prevent me from having fun in DCS. Oh, and perhaps I should explain that I'm using multiple drives and C drive is primarily used for the OS and I don't want it cluttered with game files. I have a separate drive for games. So because of how ED structure their game assets I'm forced to keep gigabytes of data on the C drive that I don't want there. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love to be wrong about this and many other things, but that's how I understand it.
  3. Not sure, that right there might be the problem I'm having. LiveriesToolPlugin? Never seen
  4. The F/A-18C is the only aircraft my model viewer has this prolem with. All other aircrafts I've loaded accepts textures from the 'saved games' path. When I load up the 18 it won't load textures no matter where I put them, not in the 'saved games' path and not in the 'core mods' either. This is the correct path (below), right???
  5. Hello, I'm fairly new to skinning and using GIMP, but am guilty of having made the F-16 skin for Team Wadafak in SATAL. Loading the file '.../coremods/aircraft/fa-18c/shapes/fa-18c.edm' in the model viewer (the only model of the 18 I've found anywhere in the DCS folders) ...none of the livery folders in /savegames... works. The 'Reload Textures' command in the model viewer does nothing, and reloading the model with a liveries folder set as texture source does nothing. What's this about? I'm getting nowhere.

  7. What's the deal with this Dora neglect anyway?!?
  8. The general problem with the Luftwaffe fighters throughout the war was that they were designed for expert pilots and handled poorly in the hands of a novice. This, and the fact that the LW pilots never made use of checklists for operating their aircraft only compounded the problems from 1944 onwards when pilot training became difficult. The operational doctrine of using checklists was pretty much invented by the USAAF as they needed to train a very large number of pilots in a short time span. Additional issues with the general doctrine of conserving materials by building small machines, as the germans did, is that it hits the aerodynamic performance of the airframes negatively at high altitudes. The big airframes such as the P-38 and P-47 had inherent and natural aerodynamic advantages at high altitudes over the small LW fighters.
  9. Why is the cowling/radiator flaps not bindable to an axis? Please fix this as it would help greatly with engine management to not have to lean forward in order to visually check them!
  10. The Jumo 213 was designed as a bomber engine and not considered a high performing engine fit for fighters. Of course, that was before it was made into one. The primary reason for the Dora to come into existence was as a emergency solution before the Ta152 production ramped up. The Ta152A/B types were designed on request by the RLM and slated for production to commence by january '44. In october '43 RLM reversed its production status in favor of producing more Fw190A airframes (politics). It was denied production status repeatedly over the last quarter of '43. By the time of the D-day landings it became painfully clear what a mistake this had been, and so the D-9 was put forward as a emergency solution to provide the LW with a high-speed high-altitude interceptor. Though the Dora lacked the heavy armament of the Ta152 it performed quite well for what it was. The Ta152A/B was specifically required to carry the Mk103 cannons, which called for the redesign of the wings, most notably the wingroots which housed the base pair of 103s. Furthermore it carried MG151/20s on top of the engine, a Mk103/MG151 behind the engine and could carry additional armament in outboard wing stations of either MG151, Mk108 or Mk103. It would have provided the LW with the firepower needed to effectively deal with bombers in a single-engine airframe and was designed for the Zerstörer role as a heavy interceptor.
  11. Looked through the rest of the stream and evidently, desyncs caused all kinds of different problems. The air combat of the 70's era is so much fun!
  12. Yeah, it was tons of fun. Only wish for, some teamwork and coordination on blue. I didn't say anything during the event... being the new guy and all, first DCS event. But... too much fun regardless! :D
  13. So... I watched the stream afterwards and noticed that my MiG-21 kill never registered. The player just vanished, not even a disconnect message. I saw the F-5 was in trouble and came in to help, took one out... nobody noticed and the kill didn't even register... meh. And with ppl talking about UFOs in chat... 02:23:54 into stream, actually... wtf just happened there? The guy is still on the red side roster but somehow no loss and not in the air?!?
  14. Did some testing in the 37 today, had a couple CTDs using it actually. Seems related to the skid marks when landing/braking. They literally flew off on the screen, like some kind of shadow/ghostplay. Obviously a bug, but am a bit worried it could affect the event tonight. Both CTDs occurred just after landing. Avoid looking at the skid marks I suppose. Edit: Have to ask, since the countermeasures pods are bugged on the Viggen as in, they won't reload when rearming you have to take them off then put them back on, are we allowed to use them? Furthermore there are many bugs on the 37 still related to the warning lights panel on the right console forward of the CK37 panel. These bugs are likely caused by the systems, because they are not working correctly... such as, the countermeasures. F ex. in regards to the countermeasures pods, when they are empty the system won't reset when rearmed but still warn about them being empty. I had a problem today with the dispensers going active on takeoff, and I could not turn them off. I was unable to correct the problem without re-planing/respawning. Something I imagine would be difficult to do during the event? Seems we'll have some issues to work around tonight, and the above is just on the 37. Post-event edit: Seems all of the issues I had above was related to the Mission Editor. None of it surfaced during the actual event.
  15. MANPAD & laser designator sounds very much like SpecOps.
  16. Agreed! Weather makes the environment much more interesting. I find the MP servers quite boring due to the invariably clear skies, no wind environment.
  17. Would be especially fun if these units could be moved around the map using rotary a/c. On foot, these units should be rather slow so in/exfiltration would be time consuming.
  18. A blue water map, anyone? Perhaps a group of small islands in the center to cater for some land grabbing and as a base (potentially) for land based a/c. There has to be some suitable location to model somewhere in the Pacific. I'd love to see a pure blue water ops map as well, just ocean for carrier groups to fight.
  19. Hello all! Been enjoying this server for a little while now. My background is mostly WW2 era ACM so this thing of throwing darts at eachother is a little new to me, starting to get the hang of it. Am mostly flying the F/A-18C but am very proficient in operating the AJS37. Enjoying CV ops a lot, and am looking to learn more, of everything. Bottom line, am looking to fly with a group of likeminded enthusiasts. Just got SRS working properly. If you see me on the server give me a shout and I'd be happy to wing up with other Hornets for closer coordination. S!
  20. The above command in Win10 "powershell" solved the problem. So now I know how to force update the client manually, worked like a charm. Hope this helps someone in the future should they also encounter this problem. Just make sure you open powershell in the 'bin' folder f ex by holding left shift and right click the bin folder & select open powershell.
  21. This is not the first time I run into the problem of the Open Beta client (the only one I run) not updating. One patch (don't recall which one specifically) I had to wait for a week for the client to update, other times it's been days. Very frustrating as I'm a active online player. So to clarify, the version I have installed: Open Beta 2.5.3.23225 (disregard topic typo!) Should patch to: Open Beta 2.5.3.23788 I launch DCS through the DCS_updater every time. Whether that has anything to do with it I have no idea but what I hear every time I ask around about the issue is to 'force the update by launching the DCS updater' ... which is actually what I do every time starting DCS. Is this causing problems for me in the end? I wouldn't know. Is anyone having the same issue of a client not finding updates and/or a solution to the problem, let's hear it. Thanks
