My experience with Quest 2 vs Reverb G2 v2
Dallas88B replied to davidrbarnette's topic in Virtual Reality
Feel for you there. That is such a common experience. No point going crazy and spending silly money on stuff... but it sure is worth remembering quality remains long after the price is forgotten. -
New Alpha Prime and CM3 Base available to order!
Dallas88B replied to imacken's topic in VIRPIL Controls
Thank you for taking the time to post the detailed reply. Its most appreciated. Stick to the right, desktop mounted or on a desk mount bracket with an extension? Your thoughts here match my hope too. I sure look forward to your comments when you have been able to get some flight time with it. Thanks for replying. -
New Alpha Prime and CM3 Base available to order!
Dallas88B replied to imacken's topic in VIRPIL Controls
You might recall I have the Gunfighter Mk.III Modern Combat Edition Ultimate used on the desktop with the VPC CM3 Throttle. I am moving my desk to a different room with more space, so I will be able to centremount rather than desktop mounted joystick. The centre mount attraction for me is mostly for the helicopter cyclic use. (more room also means a Virpil Collective is possible - yay!) I was planning on getting the getting the VKB 200mm extension plus Monstertech mounts (replicating the setup that you had) and then I saw recently that you have ordered the T-50CM3 Base and Alpha Prime Grip with the 200mm. Gave me a moment of pause. The CM3 base certainly seems to be a substantial improvement over the CM2 Base and the Alpha Prime grip seems equivalent to the Gunfighter Mk.III I am very interested in your experience of the T-50CM3 Base and Alpha Prime Grip with the 200mm extension compared to the VKB Gunfighter Mk.III setup you had. @imacken How you doing with yours? Is it centre mounted too? -
Delete the contents of fxo and metashaders folder

@Urbi Thank you for your detailed post. Agreed. I have done this. Agreed. I am pleased that you confirm my findings, and comments from other posters on the forums, that its faster. Thank you. Still, I don't know why its so hard to get a reply from ED to this simple question. If it should be deleted by the user say so. If its automatically addressed by the DCS update process then I wont bother deleting after every update. Why When ED's previous posts say that these files are deleted on update and that is demonstrably, at least at 2.8, not the case, so maybe it is a bug, maybe its a new undocumented DCS feature. There are some statements that says that DCS app does https://forum.dcs.world/topic/170893-dcs-world-changelog-and-updates-of-open-beta/?do=findComment&comment=4392356 "Added removing of precompiled shaders from previous version of dcs on Update." and https://forum.dcs.world/topic/212958-requests-for-info-deleting-shader-folders/?do=findComment&comment=4567069 "now shaders are removed when update is done" A response from ED would be useful since the ED patch notes and ED posts say that DCS delete the content on update. It didn't delete in 2.8 - maybe by mistake. Maybe they have not deleted on update for ages and these ED posts are now incorrect. Maybe seeking a reply is too much to ask. -
Thanks for your response. For me its SP. I don't do MP in DCS (yet)

Sounds pretty deliberate to me: "We understand that Tapatalk pop up is inconvenient for you, but unfortunately it is not possible to disable" presumably its an income item for DCS.
-
My support ticket got response: We understand that Tapatalk pop up is inconvenient for you, but unfortunately it is not possible to disable So there. Its really so useful.... "HEY WE'VE GOT AN APP, WOULD YOU LIKE THE APP? THE RELEVANT STUFF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR IS RIGHT BEHIND THIS POPUP AND WE'VE ASKED YOU A DOZEN TIMES ALREADY, BUT HEY WE GOT AN APP!" Edit : Seems other forums have reported the version of Tapatalk plugin that was running on their site was outdated, and might have been causing this issue (for iOS users).

There is a posting thread about cockpit lighting and such here. Its in relation to the Ka 50 and version 2.8. The thread says is solved, which given the posts by others besides me, it doesn't seem to be. Anyway, ED say "If your hope is to have it look like it did before, that won't happen, this is a step forward towards more realistic looking lighting, its still being tweaked but we wont return to the dark flatter look" .... So maybe they are still tweaking. One can hope. Suggest you post a specific bug/question with a track file so they look at it and it might get some attention.

I put in a support ticket to DCS about a month ago hoping to get an answer. But no.

In DCS click on Options (the Cog symbol on the DCS start page) then choose Controls in the top menu. Choose the Apache Pilot at top left ( "AH-64D Pilot" ). Click on the HTML button at the bottom of the screen. You will then get a set of binds like this : This is located in your saved games folder and should show you this in Windows File Explorer automatically after you press HTML For the Open Beta DCS version this will be: C:\Users\<your_username>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\InputLayoutsTxt\AH-64D_BLK_II_PLT For the Stable DCS version this will be : C:\Users\<your_username>\Saved Games\DCS\InputLayoutsTxt\AH-64D_BLK_II_PLT The listing is for all the commands ("All but Axis Commands" & the "Axis Commands") Repeat for George AI Helper and for CP/G.

Just looked at Open Beta 2.8.0.32937 change log. 1/ It seems all bugs in the Black Shark Ka-50 that have occurred since 2.8 still exist. I think that is disappointing. ( Ka-50 ain't early access and 2.8 is needed to connect to MP so please don't lecture me about it being early access and if I don't like it I can..... etc ) 2/ There are many reported problems in the Apache AH-64D forum (Bugs and Problems) that are not marked as fixed (green tick and "fixed"). Some since March. Either all these bugs still exist in the game or is the forum not kept up to date. So, when I have a problem and cannot determine if its a bug or a feature, if its not listed as "fixed" or "correct as is" or "need track" or "cannot reproduce" status on the forum then its probably a bug ?

Confused. Is it a bug or is it "correct as is" as marked on this forum entry. An explanation would be good if its known. -
Agreed, its not great.

Wireless controller? If so on your PC, press the Start button , select Settings > Devices > Bluetooth, choose xbox adaptive controller, and then select Remove device. Make sure Bluetooth is On, then select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth and choose Xbox Adaptive Controller from the list. Restart your PC wired device Try https://windowsreport.com/xbox-one-controller-usb-device-not-recognized-windows-10/ Outside chance .... make sure usb is not set to sleep https://support.shift4.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038751374-Disable-USB-Sleep-Settings

Yes its very disappointing. (I would phrase it in other ways but I am trying to be polite here)
-
Yes very true....but not in what my OP post reported...I only used the basic DCS game missions ie: AH-64D Instant Action, Mission or Training. No special tailored missions, no mods. Its not a game stopper IMHO, but its very noticeably slower than 2.7 (for reasons I cannot guess), I am not the only person experiencing it, and I thought it worth reporting.
-
I have the same type of drive, dedicated to DCS.
-
So I deleted the fxo and metashaders folder. Started DCS. Quit DCS. Started DCS a second time. No difference. Still much slower than 2.7. Updated logs post fxo / metashaders deletion and rebuild. btw, it certainly seems that updating DCS does not delete the content of the folders and recreate them. I posted separately about this here https://forum.dcs.world/topic/312207-delete-the-contents-of-fxo-and-metashaders-folder/ Update: Ran DCS all files repair. Sadly, no quicker to start. Does DCS automatically delete the contents of fxo and metashaders folder on update? (specifically C:\Users\<user_name>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\fxo and C:\Users\<user_name>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\metashaders2) There are some statements that says that DCS app does https://forum.dcs.world/topic/170893-dcs-world-changelog-and-updates-of-open-beta/?do=findComment&comment=4392356 "Added removing of precompiled shaders from previous version of dcs on Update." and https://forum.dcs.world/topic/212958-requests-for-info-deleting-shader-folders/?do=findComment&comment=4567069 "now shaders are removed when update is done" But there are several posts that say it still needs to be done manually https://forum.dcs.world/topic/184338-what-folders-again-to-empty-when-updating/?do=findComment&comment=4410019 . There is no clarification to these posts by ED so I thought I would ask specifically. Sorry if this is something that everyone knows... but I don't. update: after 2.8 I looked the these folders. I made copies then deleted them from save games. Restarted dcs. Restarted my usual module. The content of the two folders is different. So in this case at least, DCS did not delete the contents of these folders as part of the update process. I still would like a response from ED since the ED patch notes and ED posts say that DCS delete the content and it would be good to be sure.

fixed Damage Issue - Tail shot off but tail rotor works
Dallas88B replied to FalcoGer's topic in Bugs and Problems
Well damn, that is clever. Well done doing that. -
Volk YT video shows this pretty well I think. Starts at 35 second mark : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6N_wcCv5BA Probably worth uploading a Track file ( .trk ) so DCS can see what your seeing in mission and investigate further. (C:\Users\<your_user_name>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Tracks)
