  1. I've been playing DCS World with the Su-25T, and I've gotten the hang of flying the aircraft correctly and employing all the weapons systems, for the most part. I even understand the Russian RWR from my experiences flying the Su-27 in LOMAC. However, I can't seem to fly the Su-25T into combat for very long until I get shot down by MANPADs and other air defenses. Air Defenses that use radar and AAA are normally not too much of a problem, its mostly just the MANPADs. I just can't ever seem to spot them, and they always seem to get me. Can anybody offer any tips, tricks, or tactics? I'm not too used to ground-pounding, as I usually fly fighters. Thanks! :)
  2. You can't really compare all special forces and pick a best one. For the most part, they have different specialties. They are special forces after all. Recon does recon, underwater demolitions do underwater demolitions, airborne jumps out of planes, and certain groups try to find a medium that does all of the above. It's all variable, and there really can't be a "best." Comparing special forces of the same duty is just like athletics. One guy may break a world record one day, and he may be labelled the "best," but at some point somebody will catch up to him. The same thing is with special forces units. However, I believe that the more effective unit is the one with the most combat experience. That being said, the special forces of the US and Western Europe stand out better than others, in my opinion. :)
  3. I've been flying the Su-33 in LOMAC v1.02 lately, and I've noticed flying the Su-33 is causing my game to glitch a little. More specifically, it causes the UI and main menu screen to go crazy (Screenshots will be added). Another issue is that I get random CTD's from flying the Su-33. I will be flying and at random the game will crash. However, I don't crash every time I fly the Su-33, only sometimes. The UI screen issues only happen after I fly the Su-33. Could this be a screen resolution problem? I play with my screen resolution at 1440x900 (Fits my monitor). This only happens with the Su-33 though. Does anybody know of a solution?
  4. That's a lot of information, and an interesting read; however, I'm sorry to tell you that your post doesn't exactly answer why the T-80's are destroying the M1A2's. If anything, your post supported the fact that M1 Abrams in DCS should be dominating ground fighting. :)

  6. I've noticed that too. It's taken me up to 3 ATGM's to kill an Abrams often. I should have added this little fact in my OP. I, personally, don't think a ground element would have been practical. It would have been difficult for NATO forces to move because of the mountainous terrain (Despite the Yugoslavs being able to move around the terrain fluently) If I'm not mistaken, a lot of various special forces teams were in the region on the ground though.
  7. I'm glad they didn't. War is unfortunate. (That might come of slightly hypocritical as I've been playing combat flight sims for years now) My father did enjoy his time with the Russian Forces in the region. He says they are a good military, and he had a good time cross-training with them. He also says that Russian field rations are terrible, and they'd often invite Russian troops to eat with them (since US/NATO forces had giant mess halls and weren't fed rations). The Russians loved it. :)
  8. I've been making a lot of large-scale battle missions lately. Most of which pit Russian armor against US armor. I've noticed a trend in the battles between the AI tanks: the Russian tanks always beat the US tanks. So I've been experimenting with the M1A2's, and I've been noticing a lot of weird stuff. The M1A2's have getting getting completely blown up by one shot from any Russian tank (T-55's included). They do not catch fire, then blow up shortly after. They blow up instantly. Another occurrence is the M1A2 is not able to kill the Russian tanks. I set up a scenario where one Russian tank was to be ambushed by five M1A2's. The Russian tank crossed the trigger zone, and the M1A2's activated. The M1's acquired and engage the Russian tank (T-72, btw). The T-72 took multiple hits, but was unaffected. The T-72 then turned its turret and blew away each of the five M1A2's - one shot each. (Same result with T-80U in same ambush test) I think this may be a problem. I don't think it's realistic. Has anybody else noticed this? (Also, what is everybody's opinion on the T-80U? Is it a good tank? Could it really stand up to an M1A2? I ask because my father said that when he went to Kosovo, they cross-trained on some old T-72's and T-80's and he said that AT-4 rocket launchers will cut through them with ease. To quote him,"We we're pretty surprised how easy it was to destroy those things.")
  9. A-10 pilots often fly with a pair of binoculars. I'm not sure whether binoculars will be implemented into the game though. They also have the little TV screen on the right side of the panel. You can use that to attempt to get a closer look at what's happening on the ground. I'd say ground references are the best though (when you can't see the target and you don't have a laser designation of some kind, of course ;)). Key words like "In the red house on the left side of the main road" work well when trying to coordinate accurate CAS support. I don't know how far the game will go with the ground aspect, but for REAL CAS most hog pilots rely on references and coordinates. Hog pilots do often fly low and slow to get a visual, but for the most part, they will hit what the JTAC/FAC tells them to hit and not even see the individual infantryman. (Note: CAS pilots love laser designations.)
  10. Alright, thanks! :P EDIT/ADDITION: How do I deal with the fact that trimming the aircraft holds my rudder pedal position? I'll get to where I want to be, hold, trim, then start moving wildly. An example: If I'm turning left, as I bank I apply left rudder. I get to my desired heading, level the aircraft, and hit the trim while still applying left or right rudder to make slight correction. When I trim while making rudder input, the aircraft starts yawing into the direction of the rudder input and will not stop unless I apply opposite rudder or reset the trim.
  11. I can't turn very well in DCS: Black Shark. My method for turning the aircraft is simply press the trimmer, hold it down, turn, settle, release trimmer. That usually gets me where I want fairly easily. My issue is when the rudder/yaw is involved. I end up sliding all over the place when I add rudder into my turns (or whenever I use rudder, regardless what I'm doing). Not only am I sliding all over around the place, but my nose ends up flailing around wildly after coming out of a turn and releasing rudder pressure. It makes it quite difficult to navigate around. Am I doing something wrong? Any tips for simply flying the KA-50? (Sorry if the question is a bit "nooby.")

  13. As Viper said, go RTB and rearm. It is possible to take out a T-72 with unguided rockets, I've done it. However, I had used the shape-charged explosive unguided rocket (I think it's the S-8KOM, not sure), and it took me about half of my unguided rockets to just get the tank to burn and eventually blow up. I also took some damage while making my attack run. So, it is not practical to use your smaller weapons. (Unguided rockets and your gun are typically supposed to be used for "soft skinned" targets. That includes infantry, trucks of various types, and light boats.) Also remember that tanks have that heavy machine gun mounted on top. It can do some real damage, which is another reason to not attack them with your unguided rockets. You'll be amazed how much more efficient you'll be when you invest the time to fly back to base and rearm. After all, that is partly why helicopters are great. They can land and rearm as long as a ground crew is available! :)

  15. How can I make my own custom modifier buttons in DCS? I have an unassigned joystick button, and I'd like to use it as a modifier. How do I do this? I've searched it up, and I didn't get any results that tell me exactly how to do so, but after reading some threads it would seems that it is possible. Thanks. :)
  16. So I should decrease the curve? (I also posted this on the Ubi.com LOMAC forums, and Konkussion had recommended that I put my curve to "3 or 4.")
  17. What does this mean? My new Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X joystick is incredibly sensitive, and I'm trying to adjust it to what I would like. While tuning the axis, I noticed that the roll had two lines. Why is that? What does that mean? :helpsmilie:

  19. My God, this was determined ages ago: The determining factor is the pilot. If you find yourself in a perpetual state of fail, you are either a crappy pilot, or the other pilot is better than you. I think we should we should all congratulate Boberro's ability to predict fail.
  20. I would imagine it to be like flying a commercial airliner in FSX, except it's a high-performance jet aircraft instead of the heavy airliner. Just kinda fly around. Something I might do in real-life, but for a computer game, not so much. I need all the explosions and effects to fill in the missing feeling of actual flight. :P
  21. I have no way of proving this, but I think we faced off with some in the skies over Iraq. I really doubt it though. I do know, however, that F-15's have tangled with MiG-29's and won.
  22. Most aircraft can. While the F-18 is very very (should I add a third "very?") maneuverable, it bleeds energy rapidly. You don't know the meaning of rapid energy bleed until you've tried to pull +9 G's in an F-18 :P (It's a joke. I've never flown one, but I've heard it has insane energy bleed in tight turns) And, that's part of the reason as to why I like the F-15C Eagle, because of those big engines. If you use the F-15 right, it can take out a Su-27 with ease. With that being said, a Su-27 being used right can down an F-15 with ease also. It's all about the pilot. I never tangle with a Su-27 at low level. If I do, it's only for a short while, and you can bet your arse that I'll be using my F-15's strengths (It's big, thirsty engines). Another point that it's the pilot is that in online dogfights, I've seen some F-15 guys get into turning fights with Su-27's down on the deck and win. I've seen some guys actually purposely depart the aircraft and recover right behind the Flanker's tail. Flanker never knew what happened.

I've just recently picked up LOMAC again after playing DCS: Black Shark for the longest time (Going Mach 2 with my hair on fire was something I missed :P), and I have come to realize that I am terrible at Beyond Visual Range Air to Air combat. Now, before anybody says anything, I've been searching through various forums (This forum, The LOMAC forum on ubi.com, Lockonfiles, etc.) on the topic of BVR fighting. So don't blame me for not trying to figure it out, or don't blame me for spamming. With that being said, a tactic I've been seeing people recommending is "notching." Can somebody tell me what notching is? From what I've gathered, it seems like I'm supposed to fly away from an incoming missile, keeping it between my 3 and 9 o' clock positions. That's all? The thread I've been reading in particular to help me is this one. In the thread I've linked, the words "notch" and "notching" are thrown around quite a bit. I still know nothing about it. What is the "F-pole?" I've watched some of Ironhand's tutorials, and he "F-poles" in one of them. It looks to me like Ironhand just dived. I'm going to assume that there is more to "F-poling" than just diving. Somebody please explain to me this tactic. EDIT/ADDITION: Also, what exactly is "beaming?" Also, I fly v1.02, I'm not sure if that has an effect on tactics, but I'm quite sure some of the aircraft systems are different between v1.02 and FC v1.12 Help! :P
