** F-14 Development Update: December 2018 **
wowbagger replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Thank you. Surely though it will be Early Access for a long while and won't stay only in Open Beta the whole time. Aren't the other modules in Early Access in the release version? No biggie, it's easy enough to switch to Open Beta. -

Sorry if this was already covered in one of the many, many Tomcat release threads, but is the F-14 going to be released in the open-beta version first, or in both versions at the same time? I don't bother with open beta usually since I like the bugs to be openly complained about before making it to release so I know what to expect. However if the F-14 is going to open-beta first there's no point waiting an extra week or two. Cheers -
Honestly, the Mirage feels much more finished and bug-free than the Huey.
-
Yes, I bought the Huey a month ago because so many people vouched for this module as being very, very good. While it is usable, it definitely needs some substantial polish. I guess I will deactivate it until these issues get fixed and avoid buying any more BS ED modules until same. I am very impressed with the way Heatblur has been supporting, fixing, and adding new features to the Viggen even while trying to complete the Tomcat. And doing so with excellent communication to its user base about almost every issue that is raised. It's the one I will recommend to others.

At the bottom left there is a little icon which toggles between showing a single line or three lines (I believe - sorry not at pc so can't do a screen shot). Click on it to show only a single line. This 'consolidates' the majority of Vaicom's commands into a single one. It is into this single command that you can paste the updated commands to FINISH the update. This stumped me for a while too.

Great, thanks! -
[FIXED] Flickering skin texture on nose of aircraft in 2.5
wowbagger replied to CrazyGman's topic in DCS: MiG-15bis
Sorry, this is labelled [Fixed] but I haven't read any actual confirmation, so I just wanted to check if it has been fixed or not. Thinking about picking up the little Mig during the holiday sale. (Any other outstanding bugs that significantly detract from the experience?) Cheers -
Haha! This year we are in the U.S. (with no snow ), but we move all over the world. I've had a few summer Christmases in southern Africa, and in South East Asia we used some birds-of-paradise instead of a Christmas tree one year. Right now, I would take your sunny summer desert instead of our overcast, chilly, dirt brown non-season, (Chile > chilly ). Have a great holiday.

Just wanted to say thanks again. Both the Sogomonian videos and DCS A10 JTAC made easy video were exactly what I was looking for. Very helpful stuff. cheers guys

Cool. I'll check them all out. Thanks man! Wow, thanks for that awesome reply. I admit I have a bad habit of when searching for Youtube guidance on DCS automatically discounting the early stuff from 2012-2013 because I assume it is out of date or broken by now - considering how many things get broken with each generation of patches. But I guess I should look at the early stuff more seriously too. I have all of Chuck's awesome guides and they are great for the individual modules. My problem isn't learning the aircraft - it's the pretending I know how to interact with the (DCS) world around my aircraft. I will check out the videos that you and Rudel_chw have kindly shared and see if I can augment my pretending with those. Thanks man. Have a great summer holiday. (Is it weird, even when you are born and bred with it, to have Christmas in the summer? :D)

Dude, there are so many better things to pride yourself on than simply being anonymously abrasive on the internet. Especially when you don't have a real answer to share. And yes, I searched quite extensively for answers to my questions before posting - as I am sure many people to whom you dole out your helpful input do. In any event, hope you have a nice holiday next week. Bring some cheer to those around you.

Thanks for that advice - clearly one of the better forum functions available. I will check out the A-10c manual. I have owned that module for years, but never got stuck into it because it's just not appealing to me. I only recently decided to actually put the effort into learning DCS and picked up some modules from Razbam and Heatblur which are much more enticing for me than the A-10. Thanks for suggestion about Robert Sogomonian's Youtube videos. I've watched dozens and dozens of DCS videos, but have yet to come across his stuff. I will definitely check it out. I very much appreciate your effort to be helpful and engaging. Cheers!

I have been reading these forums only a very short time, but already I have learned that your posts are all as helpful and friendly as this. A+ for consistency. I hope Santa will improve your year for you. Also, I think you might be mistaken in this case, since searching the manual I haven't found a discussion of these things. But thanks for taking the time to reply.

Has anyone made or does anyone know of a tutorial which covers basic procedures for general activity in DCS World for the hard-of-learning noob? I'm talking about things which are common to all modules and missions. Things like : - When/how/whether/from whom to request permission for startup/taxi/take off/landing. - What the runway IDs indicate and how to navigate to the right end of the runway. - What ATC, JTAC, etc stand for and what to contact them for. I understand Air Traffic Control, but am shaky about Jair Traffic Control. - Tips such as remember to Turn Off ground power before taxi otherwise you get yelled at!:poster_oops: And all the other bits and bobs which make the DCS World go round but aren't specifically discussed in the tutorials for every (any?) module. There seems to be an assumption that everyone knows this stuff, or will figure it out through hours and hours and hours of game play. I'm used to hitting a single button to start the engine, looking for the green flare, taking off, and using a map and eyeballs to find my way to a bulls-eye and back. And when the mission is over, just rolling my way into the first empty parking spot I see. As a newcomer to DCS I find it far easier to become proficient in a particular aircraft than it is to learn these basic procedures for integrating into the DCS way of doing things. Thanks for any guidance or pointers to guidance. And Happy Holidays to everyone. :holiday:

Okay, I'm pretty new here and didn't realize it was a long standing gripe. Seems an easy thing to fix, at least from a non-coder, outside perspective. At least I know my time limit now. :book: Cheers guys. Happy Holidays / Wesołych Świąt

Is there is a way to keep the instructions on-screen until the space bar is pressed or the control is clicked? Often times the instructions just time out and fade away while I'm looking something up on my tablet or have spent time setting up controls.

Awesome! Thanks much for the input and the ongoing support. You are one of the best bits of the DCS world. Wesołych Świąt :holiday:

Thanks for the advice. I have heard lots of good things about the Museum Relic campaign too. I think I am a bit closed minded, because whenever I see the 50's jets flying along side much more modern aircraft the illusion seems to disappear in my mind. To be honest, the Museum Relic campaign is the only reason I'm even considering picking up the Mig or the F-86 since I have no idea what else I would do with them. I don't fly/race online - too difficult with kids etc. EDIT: sorry, I know that sounds like I'm complaining that there aren't enough campaigns and then I find fault with one that is available. I just meant that apart from the MR campaign there seems to be nothing else at all to do with the 50's jets - virutally no user made missions either. And the slightly dubious premise of the MR serves to drive that point home even harder. But I'll keep thinking about it during the sale. Anyway, apologies for getting so off topic. /Edit For now I will stick with the Mirage, AV-8B, and AJS-37. I'm totally chuffed that the Mirage is still getting lots of love from it's maker.
-
This is the reason I bought the Mirage. I repeatedly heard that the campaigns were both very good. Furthermore, when I found out that Baltic Dragon was also planning a campaign for the Harrier and working on the training tutorials as well, it became an instant impulse buy for me - when before I had little interest in it. I wish ED (and other developers) would learn that good content = purchase. Right now I'm looking at the Mig-15 and/or Sabre during the current sale (as I did in the last sale), but given the paucity of content for them I can't see myself buying them. There are so many modules I would consider if there was more that I could use them for. I hope the Mirage gets a Gulf campaign, which BD has suggested might happen. And please give the Harrier just as much love when it comes to post release content support. I don't understand why all the modules don't have new campaigns for them every year. Seems like good business sense to me since the majority of DCS players are reportedly single-players like myself.

Brilliant! That's great to hear. Thanks for the quick reply, and the Mirage update news.

Very cool news. I got the Mirage a few weeks ago, ran through the tutorials, and was just about to fire up the first campaign mission this weekend. Lovely little aircraft! I guess that this is long term project, but with the first changes scheduled to appear already in January, I'm wondering if these changes will keep breaking the campaign as they appear, and if it will be better to wait until most things are overhauled before getting stuck in to the two campaigns. Any thoughts from anyone?
