Amazing how people can be so confused by something so simple...  If you want the whole map, buy the whole map.  If you only care about one part of Afghanistan, just buy that part.  If you just buy one part, you can still fly missions elsewhere, but the map will be in lower detail.  If you don't want them to be in lower detail, buy the whole map.  It used to be that you could only buy the whole map, and now you can still buy the whole map, but now since Afghanistan is huge and some people only care about some smaller part of it, they have the option to buy that smaller part, and yet are not completely locked out of playing on other parts.  This isn't exactly rocket science here.

    Well said.

  2. I'm thinking/hoping the PIMAX crystal is the first PIMAX product that will be win/win for the company and the user.  Most are happy with it's technical capability and it's at a price point that's (almost) realistic for a serious simmer.

I'm hoping they improve the view angle and resolution marginally, and make it lighter with fans.  If they can do that for roughly the same price, I'll jump in.

A next gen Aero would be a better product most likely but the cost may be prohibitive.

  3. Loved the trailer and I'm completely jazzed about flying the F4.  That said, I have very little time, and although I like to support the developers, I don't want to throw my $ away with a few flights in a the non-carrier variant only to spend the same amount on the carrier version when it comes out.

Of course, if the carrier version will be a small add-on fee (or even free), then yes I can see picking up this module now.  Does anyone know how the carrier version will be marketed?  and...  when it might come out?

  4. I read my original post and it was way to strong and have reworded to put a more accurate emphasis on the message I was trying to get across (that it didn't seem to work for me...  probably because I did not understand the concept as well as I thought).

And I want to personally think you for the effort and time spent to make such a useable program for so many folks.  I'd really like to learn to use it better and will look you up in a few weeks if at all possible.  Thanks again for your capability, professionalism, kindness, and generosity.

  5. The concept is great...  If I could only master it. 🙂

The binding/mapping process in DCS is straight-forward but tedious.  I thought JoyPro was supposed to make it easy.  It's like it randomly decides to map a profile when it feels like it...  I have a clean file, and yet simple things like landing gear or arrestor hook show up in JoyPro but they wont map to DCS.  Instead of making it easier, it's ended up being a challenge of its own.

But, I know others would not think about not using it so I'm assuming it's me and not DCS or the program.

Thanks for picking up, I was AFK.

    @JEFX Could you solve it?

    Steam or Standalone?

Steam acts a bit strange seemingly.

On standalone you always have to pick which version you want to run. Once you made a shortcut to either one it’s no further problem.

On standalone.  I've never had to pick which version I want to run.  I simply update to latest standalone and start...  I'll go back and double-check my claim though...  I'm getting older and more senile with each day so need to verify, but I don't believe I was ever prompted to make a new shortcut and choose a version, etc...  And in the lower right it's just a number with no "MT" designation.

If you only see Version 2.9.0.46801 then you are running the ST version. MT version can be run if you use the DCS.exe from the bin-MT (in your DCS install directory) instead of the one in then bin directory.

Thanks for the question and for explaining this.  I really thought I was losing my mind because I thought the game was supposed to automatically pick the latest (MT) version when I started the sim.  Why on earth would my machine default to the non-MT version is beyond me.  I suspect there are a lot of folks out there who've never tested the MT version and think they've been using it!!!  I guess I need to reroute the icon I use to start DCS to pull the "other" (MT) executable at startup.  CRAZY!

  8. I don't think this is a thread hikack so let me try...  Does anyone have any videos that describe how to set the zoom and seat position in such a way as to best replicate what the pilot would see for any given airplane when the sim starts.  Does zoom of 1.0 already do this?  And is the default view supposed to be where the average pilot would sit?

  9. Hmm...  I sold my old rig to my son who plays DCS sometimes using my Thrustmaster Warthog.  Really still wondering the best way to go about programming my Virpil stick/throttle.  I'm assuming the Virpil SW is really difficult to use but will ensure any joystick files I have will never be compromised by my son's use of DCS and will give the best overall capability to my Virpil HW.  Does that sound right?

  10. I've been using the WartHog for the past 10 years (stopped flying about 5 years ago though so "rusty" with stick programming).  Anyway...  I have no idea where to start with the Virpil gear.  Are there any good 3rd party guides out there like "Chucks", but for the Virpil, etc...?  Should I actually try to program functions or can I get 90%+ of all I need just by mapping the buttons in the LUA?  I've heard of people having to constantly redo their controls in the LUA when there's an update.

Anyway...  Any thoughts/tips from keeping them maintained/greased to where/what SW to use to program are appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I realize this is not really relevant to this thread at this point, but since I mentioned it here, I figured I would share this as my issue wasnt the BIOS at all and I resolved it via phone call to ASUS. Here is what I posted in the ASUS & ANANDTECH forums when I was trying to get some help:

"Dis-regard. After 3 days, I called ASUS. Bottom line was. I had my Arctic CPU AIO cooler plugged into the CPU AIO Header, instead of the CPU Fan Header (As the manual states to do) and when plugged into the CPU Fan header now, all boots up fine. WTF with all the hours of research! At least im good now, was ready to order a new MOBO and send this one back via prime,,,,"

Fakum, thanks so much for the post.  I'm the other guy from the Anandtech forum with the same sort of questions.  I've been debating about whether to jump into the 1414 beta bios or wait for the non-beta, "stable" version...  Wondering if a Kraken Z73 AIO will have the same stupid issue you had or whether it's different.  Do you think this might be a case of the CPU fan header is actually physically reversed with the CPU AIO header and both the silkscreen label on the MoBo and the instructions got reversed?  Weirder things have happened...  Or maybe just a peculiarity of the Arctic AIO?  I loved the simplicity of that cooler but the Z73 was trading blows in a few reviews and I really wanted the CPU & GPU temps easily readable in real-time so I went for the Z73.  I'll let you know how it goes once I dive in.

Just checked Asus website for the new bios and there is a new 1602 version released...  And it's still a beta!  Wow, this is so ridiculous.

  12. Even the 7700X beats the 5800x3d...  especially on min fps.  No, it's certainly not a huge margin but most who move to AM5 are those who were very early in AM4 or not at all.  AM5 will give a least 3 years of upgrades and the X series like the 7700X or 7900X will soon have at least one X3d L3 Vcache variant to boost performance in gaming similar to X58003dx by 15-25% (a few months out yet).  Not quote sure where the 2 x 16 GB vs 4 x 16 arguments for DDR5 come into play...  Maybe for Intel but I have not seen that specific complaint for AMD.  Does anyone have links to that current potential (and assumed temporary) constraint?

  13. Aside from saving a bit of money on the frame, etc which I don't need, the office chair itself with the throttle, stick, and mouse brackets attached to it is what I'm planning to settle in on.  A few things questions in that context:

    1)  How good is the braking system on the center rotational piston?  Assumption is that there is no "play" once the rotation is locked, and that it feels VERY solid with no relative movement when rudder inputs are made.  YES?

    2) If you have the left throttle bracket and right mousepad (or vice versa), can you tell me the total width across the mounts that define the widest part of the chair with mounts?

    3) Regarding fabric, I' currently planning to spend the extra $ on some black Cordura vs the default faux leather.  I'm wondering if if a Napa leather variant would be even better though I suspect for overall wear/tear, comfort from sweat, etc that the Cordura is where it's at.  Thoughts?
