  1. Thanks all, it was fun figuring out the relight process with the ground looming up.... switching the igniters on seemed to do the trick after a few seconds.
  2. Has anyone had a flame out while diving? I throttled back to idle quickly and fox 2'd a bogey whilst in a dive, this was quickly followed by a double engine flame out. Probably realistic behaviour, but its the first time its ever happened to me, has anyone had a similar experience?
  3. So if your new to p;it building like me and don't want to spend too much time on a frame, I found this: http://kwikpit.com/ Its a good start and gets you up and away in a few hours. Add some Cougar MFD's, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS and 2 7" LCD screens and you're away. TIP, if you get the quick pit, go for the ready painted version, I painted mine myself and spent more money o n paint with less than optimal results.
  4. I recently built a new rig with the following spec for around $1,000, its a good compromise for performance and price and was easy to overclock, frame rates are very good in DCS above 40 fps most of the time. i5- 4670k Overclocked to 4.6 Ghz Stable 1 x GIGABYTE GA-Z87-D3HP LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard 1 x Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive 1 x G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D- 0verclocked at 1800 Rosewill ROCC-13001 AIOLOS PLUS 120mm Long Life Sleeve CPU Cooler C Antec Gaming Series One Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Rosewill Green Series RG630-S12 630W Continuous @40°C,80 PLUS BRONZE Certified, Single 12V Rail, Active PFC Nvidia GTX 660
  5. Dumb question by the way..... both documentaries were not 100% factual and contained embellishments. (as most documentaries do)
  6. The general consensus from a number of sources is that the F4 had superior kill ration to the MIG 17 and MIG 21. Whether they were superior aircraft or whether the USA pilots where better is open to conjecture, although the US aircraft where definitely more technologically advanced. (doesn't necessarily mean they where better aircraft) This statistic was also backed up by the Israelis experience in the 1967 Arab Israeli 6 day war.
  7. Fragmentation and the future Firstly, thanks for starting this thread on a subject I think there is a wide variety of thought on. I agree in principal that DCS should NOT be pandering to the masses and should concentrate on a structured platform geared to-wards quality and authenticity rather than a disparate collection of multi era aircraft and systems. Microsoft tried to pander with MS flight and got their claws clipped. I love the Huey, I love the A10C, I love the Mustang... I love all of them, however once the novelty wears off, I need something that is going to keep my attention. The only way to keep peoples attention is for there to be rich authentic single and multi player environments available and for the type of aircraft to support this. I'd much rather see development of more 80's and 90's era products that will expand the original genre. The Mustang is great, but what do you do with it? after multiple dogfights with 109's and a few strafing runs on low tech convoys, life gets a bit boring. Wouldn't it be better to develop MIG 23's, 29's F15 and Tomcat full def aircraft? If DCS really want to cover all of these different eras, they need to enhance their existing ground units to also cover them, being able to select an era in the mission editors and generators would also ad to this. I still think however that to cover such a broad span of equipment, systems and theaters from the 1940's through to the present day is too much of an ask and would be unachievable.

    Helicopter AI

So I have some gripes with the AI for both BS2 and the Huey, I'm presuming they use roughly the same logic. It does spoil what is otherwise probably the best flight sim product on the market 1. AI wingmen commonly get stuck at altitude when attempting to climb over mountains or hills, I've noticed this in BS2 and most recently in the Huey UN mission where we finally get to fire at the rebels. The leader and wingmen try to climb over a hill for another pass and get stuck there hovering at about 2kts. It looks like they are trying to follow the shortest route to a point regardless of terrain, would it not be a good idea to trigger another route (algorithm) if this or a similar state is entered? 2. Could we somehow smooth out AI terrain hugging? With wingmen, the abrupt nature of their altitude changes as a result of avoiding terrain are very unrealistic and cause quite a few problems. Is there no way to get them to react earlier with less abruptness?
  9. Thats it then, autostart is actually setting the governor to auto and the fact the corrector is spooling back up to full after throttle input is a bug.... Thanks
  10. I think its due to the IFF light being on, on the CWP. Not sure how to get this to go out yet (presumably by turning on IFF ;))
  11. So I noticed that when you run the startup cheat, at some point the throttle control gets set to auto (not auto governor, full auto) manual throttle inputs then have no effect. Where is this full auto throttle button? is it a cheat?
  12. I was thinking that was the case...I don't think the launch modes are public domain, so I'd have to kill myself if I had any remaining documentation, which I don't. BUT... I'm suspecting the reason is time, or are you saying you can't model anything without fully supporting documentation?
  13. Biggles, Is that the Biggles from RAFG who had an ejection seat in his house?:pilotfly:
  14. Ha, I was just about to say something along those lines. The MOD seems to adopt the X2 +0 technique of procurement....
