  1. Any help, please? In short, despite having the English version, I'm getting Russian voices in the cockpit. A short search into the files showed me that I have audio files of all languages (ENG, DE, RU). What to do?
  2. I recently reinstalled a clean version of DCS: Black Shark (English Version) and on top of it, english version of patch 1.0.2. However I am now getting russian voices in the cockpit. Went to the sound folders and it seems I have all voice files (english, german, russian). Is this normal and how can I pick the proper language? Delete the folder I want unused? I seemed to remember from the past that the English version only had English chatter. Sorry if this has been brought up..
  3. We at Global Naval Strike Force play a few sims trying to cover aspects of modern warfare whilst striving for realism in a structured environment. We play Falcon 4: Allied Force, Ghost Recon, Dangerous Waters [and 688(I) Hunter/Killer for anyone that wants the occasional retro-style dive]. As soon as we spotted DCS: Black Shark, we were certain that we should add this game to our collection in order to cover the area of helicopter warfare. After a lot of work on creating a proper reporting system, a set of rules and a map pack, we now officially support DCS: Black Shark and would be very glad to see you join our big family.
  4. We at GNSF have a few people playing DCS: Black Shark and we're continually working to improve our map pack. Have a look (link in my sig) and if that kind of thing interests you, we would be glad to see you around. On an a personal level, feel free to PM me and we can set up a time to play whenever possible :)
  5. GuntiNDDS, I have the exact same CPU (s939) with a somewhat old graphics card (7600GT AGP). With medium settings it runs OK at 1024x768. Depending on the objects I can get anywhere from 20 to 60 FPS, but if there are many objects it may go as low as 10. As another person in this forum said...get the game, worry about the upgrades later :) As for the USB power draw, do not worry too much. USB works with the 5V rail and a common joystick will draw less than 0.5 A of current. I've got a simple Logitech Attack 3 one and it needs 0.5 Watt to run. For 10 joysticks you need 5, let's exaggerate and say 10 watts. I'm pretty sure your PSU can provide that, but if you want to be sure, open up your computer case and check the current rating for the 5V rail, then calculate the power draw of your USB devices (if you turn them upside down, they usually list it there), and you'll know for good :) But don't worry about it.
  6. Starting the chopper with Lwin+home does not flick the 'radar altimeter/barometric altimeter' switch next to the AP buttons. Therefore you engage the hover hold but the altitude hold autopilot is not working I believe, as neither of its modes are selected. This may be why you have trouble hovering..
  7. Did you try setting the DCS.exe for multiple cores or just the launcher.exe?
  8. Are you sure this does more than setting the affinity with the Windows task manager does?
  9. Hello, I'm not sure what keyword to search the manual with in order to find answer to a question I have, so I would like to ask the kind souls here, as some of you will surely know. Sometimes I get this screen on the Shkval. Initially I thought it does it when it fires up for the first time, but sometimes it may also do it midflight, and I wonder why..Anyone know what this is for? Thanks.
  10. I wish the options in the mission editor to allow or disallow external views for enemies/allies only will get fixed and work as intended :) Further I wish the alt+F1 HUD view would not be included in the 'no external views' restriction. My two cents :)
  11. The reset trim condition is useful when you are on the ground. See here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=583711&postcount=42 I do find it useful when my touchdown is a little 'clumsy' :) Helps prevent your chopper from flipping over.
  12. Hello, I play the South Ossetians Pirates mission, and usually I die for some reason. Then I am presented with the debriefing screen, where I hit "fly again". The 3D world loads up, and there I am in the chopper. I hit pause to start playing but I have no control over the chopper. The cockpit view might move slightly and a couple of instruments might move too, but I have no control over it. I hit LWin+Home to get the engines starting and it doesn't work. And, about 10 seconds after I have hit the "unpause" button, the 3d world exits and I get back to the debriefing screen. I try flying again, but have the same problem yet again.. What might be causing this? System configuration: Motherboard: MSI K8T Neo2-F (MS-6702E) Processor: AMD Athlon X2 4200+ (64bit, socket 939) Graphics card: Leadtek 7600 GT (AGP) OS: Win XP Home 32-bit Controllers: Logitech Attack 3 joystick
  13. Zakk and DeltoBrava, does it work even if there are ships in the mission?
  14. Have you read this already? It is recommended that you trim each time your flight parameters change.
  15. Bump...any help will be greatly appreciated. The worst part about disabling external views is you also lose the HUD-only view (LAlt+F1). The worst part about enabling external views is you also get to see the coordinates of your targets in a multiplayer environment... Is there a definite way to disable enemy external views but allow external views of your own chopper?
  16. Whiskey, I had that exact processor and then upgraded to a 4200+ X2 (dual core). Core frequency is the same, and when the game runs on only one of the two cores, it is not bad at all (at least in XP, in Vista/7 there might be a bigger improvement). I've got an Nvidia 7600GT which is at about the level your 6800 is (I actually think yours is better than mine). So yes, it will run. Not with everything at max, but it sure will with the proper graphics settings. It also runs on a friend's 2400+ with a GeForce 5900 so don't be overly worried. As said...get the game, then deal with the hardware issues later :)
  17. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  18. Interestingly, the one mission I could not alt-tab back to it, had ships in it. I think the other one, where I actually could alt-tab back to it, had no ships. 1. @Vitesse2l, you mean you must have the virtual memory set to a fixed size instead of having Windows control its size? 2. @GFMastiff, I thought that once you are in the 3D world the launcher.exe is killed so as to free up resources (see here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=568712.) 3. It is odd in that it has only happened to me in multiplayer so far. I will have to check out the ship thing.. UPDATE: About (2) above, is the GUI launcher even running when in multiplayer mode? When I launch multiplayer, I only see the DCS.exe process running. Now here is the interesting thing, I actually went in and tested the ship theory. And lo and behold, I can alt-tab out of the game as desired if the mission does not contain ships...add a ship, and there's no alt-tabbing any more. Not even from the pre-flight screen where you select your chopper. Odd, isn't it? I can understand a game not being friendly with alt-tabbing (e.g. Falcon 4 AF) at all, but why it has do with whether it's a ship is present or not is quite intriguing :) I see there has been some discussion on it already here and it is mentioned as a confirmed bug: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=37723 Lastly, I tried windowed mode but it gives quite an FPS hit as eV1Te stated. Not an option for me either...I guess, if it can't be fixed, then I simply must not alt-tab if a mission contains ships. :) UPDATE #2: Looks like the alt-tab problem in a mission where ships are present, also exists in Single Player mode.
  19. Hi all, I was playing with a friend in multiplayer and it appeared that whenever one of us wanted to alt-tab out of DCS to do something else, we were unable to ever get back to the game. The controls and everything were responding as if we were still in the game (sound too), but we could not get the picture back to the screen. Tried switching with the task manager to no avail...in the end we had to terminate the process. It happened to both of us, and the odd thing is it happened even before getting to 3D screen (when alt-tabbing from the pre-flight screens after connection was achieved). It did not appear to be a system resource issue as he has a super system and mine did not appear to be craving for more power at the time of the crash, as the CPU and RAM utilisation percentages were OK. He's running Vista 64bit and I'm running WinXP Home 32-bit, for what it's worth. I have been able to successfully alt-tab out of the game and then back in countless times whilst in single player. I also believe I have managed to do it in other multiplayer games but I am not sure how correctly I recall that. Anyone have an idea about what might be causing this?
  20. Hi Sweinhart3 Glad you find this sim enjoyable. If you're looking for an online group to join, we at GNSF are working flat-out on implementing Black Shark. We have a reporting system in place and we are working on a basic set of rules and creating some missions. Feel free to have a look at the page (link in my signature) and sign up if it interests you...of course if your only goal is to learn a few specific things about the game, then other places as miguez wrote could be better suited. We are also far from experts at it, as the game is new to everyone and we are still learning. There's about 4-5 of us that play the game right now, but we're hoping to expand. :)
  21. Thank you Dusty Rhodes, will try it out. This should be very useful for online play. Thanks again.
  22. Greetings all, I would be glad if any of you more knowledgeable than me could answer a question I have about missions: The game manual states that the game, in its multiplayer format, supports "both cooperative and head-to-head gameplay". I believe however I read somewhere in this forum, a post from the developers who said that the current focus until other aircraft are supported, is primarily co-op play. I do recall this but I might be wrong. Anyway, the question is, is it possible to have some sort of "cooperative but adversarial" play, meaning, a group of Ka-50s belonging to the one side (red), and another group to the other side (blue). Each side would have its own objectives with victory determined as they are achieved (perhaps 1st team to meet objectives wins). It could be done by sticking different groups on the same side but then there is a problem with 'friendly kills' and with properly separating ground targets for a win condition.. Please let me know if this can be done and give me a few hints about how to get this accomplished with the mission editor. Thanks!
  23. I'm sure it will run, it even runs on an AMD 2400+ or so with a GeForce 5900, not at maximum settings of course. I've got an AMD 4200+ X2 (2.2GHz, dual core), 2 GB RAM, and a Nvidia 7600GT AGP with 256 MB, and 2GB of RAM. With adequate graphics settings (medium) it runs at about 20 fps when close to some, and goes up to to 30-50 or even more at all other times. Resolution 1024x768. It does suffer when many objects are around (like in the "Battle" mission). Your video card is one generation better than mine (and PCI-express too) and it'll certainly do better. You may still not be able to max out everything but it will run well enough.
