  1. I just moved my install to a new drive. Copy and paste worked fine, just had to update where everything is linked (I.e. change your DCS paths from the old C:xxxxx to D:xxxx, for example).
  2. Thanks again for the replies, guys, I appreciate it. I can't remember if I ever updated the thread (haven't read back, only saw the recent notifications). I went ahead and bought a 2TB WD Black 850 for all my DCS stuff. Figured whenever I build a new PC I'll just drop that drive in it. I also replaced my 9600k with a 9900k, and replaced my 2080Ti with a 3090 my buddy sold me. It has been great so far! Really loving the setup. Haven't played much VR lately since the change, but I've been playing a lot of flat panel w/TrackIR on maxed out settings and, wow, DCS is just beautiful! Really getting back into the Editor. Working on a little mini-campaign at the moment. Glad to be enjoying DCS again.
  3. Update: Well, I actually won an auction in eBay. Have a 9900K on the way now. Gonna grab my buddies 3090, too!
  4. Thanks for the explanation, LucShep. I’ll browse around eBay. Having a few more cores/threads would be nice for OBS and editing.
  5. I’ve never bought used PC equipment. Anything to watch out for if I were to buy a used 9900k? My same buddy had a 9900k with this 3090 he’s selling, but he’s already moved that chip into something else (I asked if he was selling it…maybe I already mentioned that?).
  6. Sorry for the late reply, guys. Been out visiting family. The rad is top mounted, and temps only got high during stress testing….pushed 90ish if I remember. Been quite a while. I bet I could put it back up to 5.0 for DCS and it would run fine. I think temps only get into the mid-60s when playing right now. I’ve been wondering about this AIO anyway and wondering if it’s working right. The LED on the pump head failed early on when I bought it, but AFAIK it’s still working…probably worth a look! It’s a Thermaltake Ring Flow something or other lol. Gotta run, about to push off the gate.
  7. I've got a 360 AIO on it now. My build is several years old. I should probably clean the old paste off and reapply...good idea?
  8. Hmm, you guys have given me some things to consider. Yes, the seller is a good friend/former coworker of mine, and he takes excellent care of his stuff. I wouldn't give that part a second thought. And, if it did die, I could still put my 2080Ti back in I suppose. Guess I'll chew on this a little while. Oh, and as far as power supply goes, I think I have an 850W in there; might be a 1000W, but can't remember. I'll check my build list on PCPartpicker, and I'll also edit the list with the 3090 to see what it says. Also, I do have my 9600k OC'd to 4.9 GHz. I have had it up to 5.0, but didn't like how hot it was running.
  9. Yeah, I was planning on building a new system with a 13700k/13900k and, at least, a 4080. Just when the wife will let me is the question! I think having two capable PCs would be pretty handy though. My son wants to learn to fly, so I'm thinking of putting MSFS on to start teaching him the basics before he starts taking lessons. Who knows...maybe I'll have a new DCS wingman soon, too! Edit: As for VR, future VR actually, I think I would probably go with something like a Quest 3 at least. Admittedly though, I'm a bit out of the loop on VR. I plan to build a PC decent enough that it shouldn't be an issue.
  10. Thank you guys for your previous help with the M.2 thread. I have a different situation now. A buddy offered to sell me his 3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming for $650 US. If you remember from my other thread, I’m kinda trying to limp this PC along until I do a new build. It’s not a bad PC and runs DCS great on flat screen, and I’m pretty happy with my VR performance as well, other than it being an old Rift S. Current specs are 9600K (4.9 GHz), 2080Ti, and 64 GB RAM, after a recent step up from 32. I feel the 9600k just barely makes it with the 2080Ti right now. The CPU definitely maxes out often. Do you think stepping to the 3090 would be better or worse at this point? The best I can do on this board would be a 9900k, but I don’t want to put too much of a bandaid on ($$) vs just going for a new build. Thoughts?
  11. Nice. Yeah, I'm for sure going to put the OS on a fast drive, too, lol. It's already quick on this SSD, which blew me away coming from HDDs on my old PCs, but looking forward to having better stuff in the next PC.
  12. Right on. I think I'll spend the money on a Samsung 990 or WD 850 once our contract passes (I hope)! I'm thinking at least 2TB, but even toyed with a 4TB drive for DCS. 4TB overkill though? Just hard to forsee the next few years with new maps and modules coming.
  13. Interesting debate, fellas. Been trying to follow along as best I could, lol. Figured I'd jump back in to say there's a very good chance I will take my soon-to-be-purchased drive (that will be DCS only) from my current PC and put it in my next PC, which will probably have a Z790 board. I think I'm leaning towards getting a Gen4 drive now, since I can use it in both systems, even though I won't see those speeds on my Z390. FWIW, I did some more looking into my PC and how I installed everything. My OS is actually on a 2.5" SSD, not that SATA M.2, not that it really makes a difference I guess.
  14. Thanks a lot, LucShep! Reading that stuff makes my head hurt, lol. That's very helpful.
  15. Yeah, I've been referencing the MoBo setup for M.2 ports and SATA ports. I have 2x 2.5" SSDs into SATA 1 & 2 right now, so I need to figure out where the new drive will go. Can't remember where my current M.2 is on the board either. So, this brings up another question. Not speaking to which slots are active/inactive at this point in relation to SSD placement... in general, will the PC still recognize moving an M.2 from one spot to another? I'm pretty sure I put my current M.2 in slot 1 (just can't see for sure).
  16. Wow, glad I posted that before buying anything. Guess I'm definitely out of touch! And yeah, the sig is current: Z390 Aorus Master. Thank you both for the education...learned some things! ETA: Yes, this drive will not have the OS on it. It's only going to be a home for DCS.
  17. I didn't realize it at the time, but I have DCS on a SATA m.2 drive from when I built my PC several years ago. I only realized it now that it's full and I can't update DCS, and have been shopping for a new one. I'm going to get a larger SSD for DCS, probably 2 TB, but I want an NVME. My question is, is it worth it to go with something like the WD Black SN850X/Samsung 990 Pro? Or would a WD Black SN770/Samsung 980 Pro still do fine? Just don't know how much of a difference it'd make vs price. I'm on a 9600k (4.9 OC), 32 GB RAM, and 2080Ti. Planning a new build in a few months, but still want to play in the meantime. Just need the room. Thanks!
  18. Ok cool, I learned something then!
  19. I am still learning MOOSE, but do you need spaces between the parenthesis in some of those? ( "Oscar" ); ( 0, 0 , 10000 ); ( 600 ); ( 30, 0 ) ?? I'm sure someone that actually knows MOOSE will chime in though!
  20. Question regarding A2A Dispatcher... What would make my Blue F-16 AI planes fire on other Blue aircraft?? They're killing anything and everything in the air, red or blue, doesn't matter. If it moves, it dies. One just shot my Huey down, lol. I've never seen this behavior, but that doesn't mean much, haha. Edited to add that it had been a red-only set up initially, which had been running fine. I only added the blue side tonight and that's when I noticed the friendly fire. I copy/pasted a lot of the red stuff in the script for the blue side, so maybe I forgot to change one of the parameters? Edit again - Think I figured it out. Made separate scripts for both red and blue sides. Seems to be working fine now. Still learning this stuff; I guess maybe you can't make red and blue into the same script file?
  21. Ah, thanks, Grimes! So that one-hour thing is true and they will repair? That's great, thank you!
  22. So, I take it that's a "no" on the ability to repair runways.
  23. I ran a search in this forum for "runway repair," which pulled a bazillion results, none of which seemed relevant. Anyone know if it's possible to repair a runway and return it to service after it has been bombed? I started working on a new mission where enemy flights will continually respawn (once destroyed) from their base, and the objective is to take their runway out to prevent them from departing. However, I'd like to be able to return the base to service after a certain amount of time has passed. I did a Google search as well, and thought I saw reference to runways being fixed after a 60 minute time period has elapsed, but that thread was really old and almost seemed like folks were saying it was a bug or a script. Thanks!
  24. You bet, thanks. Edit: Issue posted. Also, I wanted to ask: is anyone else experiencing this issue as well? I've used the CTLD script plenty in the past without issue, so I'm curious if it's happening to others or not. If not, it's probably just something on my end.
  25. Ahh, that makes a lot more sense! No, I don't have CA, but now I have an excuse to get it, lol. Thanks!
