  1. Overclocking my rig - rough gains? I almost bricked my PC trying to overclcock my CPU at the weekend :) What I did learn is that my mobo manufacturer's autotune software sets the CPU core voltage to 1.4v+, which is higher than the experts on the forum recommend and they say to stay to steer clear of auto tuning utilities. 2. Anyone know how to make the video repeated on the monitor larger? Obviously it won't go full screen because the oculus displays are portrait but I'd like to make it bigger than the default window Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I'm with you. I just downloaded the Oculus debug, ran it, set it to 1.5, closed it, launched DCS and it looked...the same to me in the A-10C HUD. Do I need to leave the debug tool running rather than closing it? It causes judder in Oculus home. EDIT - just set it to 2.0 and left the debug tool running. FPS seemed fine and the HUD is maybe clearer. I'll do some more experimenting. Interesting stuff this VR!
  4. So I have read a thread about asynchronous time warp and I'm lost. How does the debug tool relate to it?
  5. Yup - not IPD related. Try shutting one eye and let me know if you see the whole HUD from normal viewing position
  6. Anyone seeing the same effect as me on the F-15 HUD? If I centre the view I see some of the HUD through my right eye and some of it through my left but not the whole HUD through both so my brain has to fuse the images. Is this normal? I've tried centring in different head positions but not really found a way to resolve it. It works fine but feels a bit odd and takes some getting used to.
  7. HUD and MFDs on A-10C easily readable for you without any mods? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Oculus Rift with DCS World Discussion I find the A-10C MFDs and HUD unreadable but in this thread you'll see people are addressing that with the debug tool, which I've yet to try. That might make it workable. Spotting ground units tough because of the res. HOTAS is essential because u can only get a peak at the keyboard through the gap near your nose. I don't find it easy to click cockpit switches but people may have a workaround. I don't think maps/kneeboard/external views are available but might be wrong. The F-15 HUD is easily readable. Without labels A2A is tricky because res means it's hard to spot other aircraft. Dogfighting is a lot more physical than with TrackIR because you're looking behind you a lot (if you're me). Thankfully only at 1g rather than up to 9g IRL. Landing and formation I find much easier in the Rift due to depth perception. I feel much more IN the situation so my orientation feels much better and my whole attention is captured so my SA is better from that point of view but I don't know how to see the map so i'm reliant on landmarks and without labels it's harder to spot other aircraft - BVR this isn't an issue but WVR it makes a knife fight trickier but on the other hand easier from a spatial orientation pov. So overall it's not brilliant for combat IMO but then again the thought of flying with a flat monitor rather than being immersed thanks to the Rift...it just doesn't get me excited anymore. When the res improves on CV2 and the VR specific issues above are ironed out then it will be epic. PS I have very little combat experience in DCS, I was just getting to grips with basic low threat A2G in the A-10C when my Rift arrived. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Cool. I'll give it a go this evening and see how I get along. What benchmarks do you use to see the benefits? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Thank you, very useful. My take on it is that I should crank up CPU speed as much as possible but upping the GPU speed won't help much. It also suggests, if I've understood well, that I should've probably bought a 6700 CPU in favour of the cheaper 4790 but a cheaper GPU. DOH!!! Got them the wrong way around. 11. I built my rig in January in anticipation of Oculus Rift CV1 coming out (probably should've waited but didn't think 1080 Pascal cards would be out until late 2016 but never mind). I've got a 4790k with a Corsair closed loop water cooler and an EVGA 980Ti Hybrid which has a built in in closed loop water cooler. I've just received my CV1 and played a little DCS and i'm surprised by how well my rig is performing but I do get some judder looking to the sides when flying low over Vegas. Will I see much improvement if I OC my CPU and gfx card and if so roughly what sort of % gains are we talking about? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Thanks a lot. I've got about 100 hours of single engine piston flying and 500 hours on gliders (sailplanes in American English). DCS plus Oculus Rift makes me feel a lot like I'm flying. Finally! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I've had my CV1 since Saturday and I've got a buddy over who flies GA. Seeing his reaction to flying the F-15 for the first time in DCS over Nellis has been a revelation. He cannot get enough of it and that makes me feel ok about having spent a small fortune building a PC and buying the Rift. I'm the son of a fighter pilot and apart from 45 mins flying as a passenger in an English Electric Lightning (yes, it was incredible) I've been waiting my whole life for this. It's amazing. The A-10 for me isn't there because I can't read the MFDs nor the HUD so i'm gonna learn how to fly A2A in the 15. I'm a DCS newb and I was going to go with the A10 but the Rift means it's the 15 for me. Enjoy fellow Rifters [emoji2][emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Any issues with the A-10C missions using Oculus? I start an instant action mission and I get into the cockpit but it's paused and I can't find a way to unpause. I don't have this issue with F-15C instant action missions.
  15. I've lost sound through my Oculus earphones - just coming out of my monitor. Worked fine for the first flight but then stopped mid way through a loop over Nellis. Any ideas?
  16. Wow!!!! I'm in an F-15 cockpit - REALLY!!! For some reason though my controls seem screwed up and i'm getting uncommanded roll input. Anyone else had this? EDIT - turned out my throttle mapping was wrong - working now!
  17. Just got my CV1 and waiting for DCS Updater to finish downloading the latest revision (haven't flown for a couple of months). Is there a 'how to' setup guide or do I just fire it up and put the headset on?
  18. Is it feasible to simulate a helmet mounted sight do you think? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. And here's the answer: http://www.afcent.af.mil/Units/455thAirExpeditionaryWing/News/Display/tabid/5505/Article/273821/moody-a-10-pilots-first-to-field-target-system-downrange.aspx Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Not sure it's radio :) Thick cable and goes to visor. Radio cable usually integrated into oxygen mask no? A quick Google suggests Scorpion Helmet Mounted Display Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. That's the conclusion I came to just now. Must be a reason why they don't fit smarter guidance computers. Are laser guided bombs a lot cheaper than GPS or just old tech? If u had the choice you'd always pick GPS guidance wouldn't u because it doesn't require constant guidance. Mmm- moving targets would be a problem though. Interesting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Does the helmet have a display in it? What's the cable for if not? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Google agrees: http://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/smart/lgb.htm I think I get the problem now - if the bomb sees the target immediately it will try to steer at it in a straight line but that would make it cut the corner of the ballistic trajectory and run out of energy. Interesting that they haven't yet made the guidance smart enough to figure out optimal trajectory to achieve max range using all available ballistic energy even when target is being lased. GPS guided munitions know their exact target at launch and don't suffer the same issue so...erm...confused again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. This surprises me. I'd have thought that guiding as early as possible would enable the bomb to have a higher prob of hitting it's target than later because the amount that it can maneuver reduces with height. If it only guides for a few seconds before impact then it might not have time to correct for initial trajectory and wind errors. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Unable to hit a bridge using CCRP Thanks everyone. Mucho success with GBU12's. I wasted a few taking out trucks to practice and they are pinpoint...now that I've provided them some laser to guide on. A couple of questions if I may... The initial lase (is that even a word?) is to establish range and accurately set the SPI...does Latch On impact this step or the post drop step? Does the Auto Lase option trigger the laser for guidance at the point of release for the specified number of seconds or the predicted time of impact minus the number of seconds specified? Either way surely an arbitrarily high number would seem sensible rather than trying to calculate the approx bomb fall time?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
