  1. One thing I always appreciate are creative solutions to difficult challenges. This version of the J-8 is the very essence of that ethos, AND will bring a credible Full Fidelity OpFor aircraft to a game that desperately needs them. After seeing the initial quality and ongoing enhancements to their JF-17, I will definitely be adding this J-8 to my hangar. I guess the hard part is that there can only be a few "loopholes" like this to build modules from... I've said it elsewhere, but I think PLAAF/PRC are missing out on fantastic PR & sales opportunities to promote their weapons systems to the world. They should be supporting Deka rather than blocking them.
  2. You can hardly throw a rock in the UK and not hit some airfield that took part in either or both world wars... Farnborough was bombed by the Germans in 1940. Heathrow was there since 1930 under different names, and seems to have been a test/eval field for Fairey, and had a squadron of Hurricanes based there. What's so historically inaccurate about them?
  3. What later grew into Heathrow was an airfield from 1930 on. 1940: No. 229 Squadron Hurricanes from RAF Northolt were sent to the Great West Aerodrome (future Heathrow) while there was a threat of enemy attack on Northolt. There is interesting intrigue in the history, too - it was fronted as a B-29 base (yes, B-29), but was absolutely a scheme to build a commercial international airport... Anyhow, the more airfields, the better.
  4. I really appreciate the ambitious nature of the map, and already consider it money well spent (as long as it continues to be improved ). It's simply refreshing to have something other than desert to fly over. Sooooo many great potential scenarios here... Biggest ask (for me) is to get the unmarked but existing little airfields marked on the F10 map, and work on adding the other IRL airfields in the region (particularly in Chile, etc.). I realize there aren't all that many IRL, but that just makes it more important to add them in Having more airfields to operate from will make the map far more usable and enjoyable even without other long term improvements. Many thanks to the Razbam team for this passion project - I hope this venture literally pays off for you, AND that you can find time to bring us other playgrounds to enjoy! EtA: I, too, would enjoy a High Definition texture option, a la Orbx TrueEarth products!
  5. I don't think an exact number went out, but True Grit did mention that it would be in the same ballpark as the other modern modules. I'd be shocked if it's a penny less than Tomcat/Hornet/Viper/Thunder/Warthog(!), so you've got to get at least $80 in your piggy bank And speaking of helicopters, I'm kinda thinkin' that'll be what Apache comes out at, as well. I'm sure you have time, too. Even though it's been in-dev for a year-ish, Typhoon is gonna take "awhile"...
  6. Can't imagine a better mash-up than Nicholas & HeatBlur + Gero & True Grit. This will be an(other) historic module for DCS. ETA: 1 lonely vote for a "Test Pilot" Extra-Early Access release. All I need is the gun to get my giggles on with this one p.s.: I see what you did there by using the Thunder as Typhoon fodder. Cheeky, and I like it!
  7. Agreed wholeheartedly! It would seem that ED should develop a process for user-generated objects to be incorporated into the game more easily (especially fundamental ones such as these). I realize this is more involved and more work than for other flight sims, but it would seem something similar to X-Plane's Scenery Gateway would be a great way to enable community contributions while maintaining the necessary functionality/quality that DCS mods require.
  8. GREAT write up! I'm all for user-placeable objects of any kind, especially like the recent upgrades to FARP's. I would REALLY like it if ED would re-enable/fix the user-placeable "dirt airstrip", and bring the very cool Marsden Mat mod fully into the game.
  9. A great map gets even better - and the addition of Cyprus and all the extra airfields (and helo pads!) is icing on the cake. Watched the videos before looking at the Before / After shots and couldn't see much difference. But even a quick glance at the before after images shows just how much more detail has been added to the map. Looks substantially better! People complain about optimization and memory leaks, but even so, this has been my favorite place to fly DCS since it was released. Many thanks for the hard work and ongoing improvements
  10. GREAT update - thank you. as much as my inner child wants the Strike Eagle, my inner adult approves of the renewed progress on Harrier. Really looking forward to flying it over Falklands/Malvinas, regardless of our “too modern” variant stay safe on your deployment.
  11. MUCH RATHER have the new module swapped in to the campaign as-is. Be very happy to pay for a new Syria campaign built specifically around vII.
  12. Many thanks for the info - so much the better to get it straight from a person with your experience! I never really knew that much about Typhoon or Raptor (both after my service time), and didn't really care about Typhoon until hearing more about it from you and your team. Previously, my most eagerly awaited DCS "dream plane" was the upcoming F-15E, and I never even bother ed wishing for a Raptor. Now that I'm learning about Typhoon, it seems like I might just have a new favorite aircraft. Thanks for all you've done in your career, and also for bringing just a small taste of the fun part to the rest of us!
  13. Thanks, guys. Please, for the love of god, tell us FIRST the next time! Very much looking forward to the updates and continuing to love the Harrier!
  14. Good news and good pro-active communication! A great example for the dev community, for sure.
  15. Since you use it as point of comparison, BN, the TGP isn't even mentioned in Hornet's manual, despite having been in game for quite awhile. Wags' intro videos are good and all, but are no substitute for documentation. Not saying the manual has to be correct up to the minute, but if it weren't for Chuck Owl I'd have no idea how to operate it. That's bad by any standard, man.
  16. +1 for the just released casmotv video above Casmo himself is an IRL Kiowa & Apache pilot and found the default settings too sensitive as well. he shares settings recommended by IRL Gazelle pilots in the video description, plus a little tweak to the collective that is his personal preference. I had been running a 60 - 70% Saturation on cyclic, plus a curve and found it tolerable. tried Casmo's and it's much improved. casmo reflects on the characteristics of the module and says it's definitely playable and shouldn't be shitcanned. worthwhile to listen to the whole thing just to hear his perspective - he's pretty chill and has a talent for focusing on what matters and what doesn't ;)
  17. if you haven't already, check out thud's vr4dcs blog and related discord this is pretty much exactly the subject matter they cover. i voted for Reverb 'cause that's what I have and it works well, but it's been 9 mos or so, so there might be a more appropriate choice. Take heed of flameoutme's caution above - just like with a 4K monitor, the higher the resolution of the HMD, the faster the computer driving it needs to be. The challenge with the HMD is that you can't turn the res down to pick up fps...
  18. TWO pieces of fantastic news - many thanks to Ugra & ED for making this happen! In re Cyprus, I personally would be fine if you handled it like the Caucasus map, with Akrotiri being at the same fidelity as the other airbases in the Syria map.
  19. having similar problems here, too. Steam VR Beta had been automagically disabled, presumably by the update. Re-enabling didn't fix. Going to go for the Steam re-install.
  20. My issue was that I was boxing QTY for the station, which I had learned from another source (which, in fairness, was describing single rack rather than dual rack delivery). Now unboxed for single bomb drops and working as expected.
  21. i've watched a BUNCH of other video tutorials. These are very well done, and cleared up a few misunderstandings I had, so in large part, these are my new Go-To vids for refresher, etc. Many Thanks!
  22. thanks, gents - good info in your replies. i'm going to practice with your info tonight and see if i can get it right!
  23. I must be confusing Stations and Pylons and Racks? I thought Stations = Pylons, does that change when a dual rack is mounted to the Pylon (can't try it now as at work)? Thank you.
