  1. Hi all. Just taking a minute to pass on what I learned researching this common issue where the precision thumb slider is used for zooming (changing FOV) but it seems to jitter back and forth and not remain static once set. **Preamble**Many people said it was a defect or the result of poor contacts but equally as many people said their hotas was brand new. Others said the problem could be fixed by tweaking the sensitivity or settings in the SST software. Others incorporated a workaround by using 'bands' on the SST. None of these options worked for me. What I observed after a lot of trial and error was that my problem only existed when the TrackIR was running - even if paused AND the DCS screen was in focus. The moment I shut down TrackIR OR clicked the mouse button outside of DCS, the problem instantly stopped. This lead me to believe it had something to do with TrackIR. What I could not explain is why the controller properties showed my throttle, slider and rotating knobs all to have a slight jitter even when not in use but that jitter disappeared when I shut off TrackIR. Then reading various threads, one guy stated something to do with voltage, another said it had to do with USB 2.0 vs 3.0. Then I also remembered that my big screen TV that is hooked up via HDMI to another laptop goes blank for 5 seconds everytime I turn my ceiling fan on. Weird. But when I put all those observations together I thought maybe it was electrical interference. And sure enough, it was. **SOLUTION**Simply taking the cable for my X52 and moving it away from the cable from the TrackIR and plugging it into the computer rather than an external powered USB hub solved the problem. Hope this helps at least one other frustrated person.
  2. Hi, everyone. There must be threads on this but I cannot seem to locate one. I've been running DCS from my internal HDD but want to run it from a recently purchased external SSD. How can I move everything over to it (but perhaps keep configs and saved stuff local)? Thanks
  3. Yet another issue: I can no longer change views when viewing replays. I know it worked before and it had nothing to do with whether I saved the track or not. I simply have zero control over the POV when viewing a replay and a few weeks ago I did. I also notice as well that when I press Esc during a replay there is a "Take Control" option which was never there before. This allows me to change views but now I'm in full control of the flight as well. what gives? **UPDATE** I seemed to have figured it out although I don't know what setting I changed in the options menu to fix it.
  4. Do you know what file stores the mappings?
  5. Hi everyone. I would have thought this to be a very commonly asked question but I am having difficulty finding it. How can I import my control mapping from one plane to another? I did it successfully from the Su25 to the SU27 (albeit a lot of differences and gaps) but I cant seem to did it between the Su27 ans the Su33. FOr instance - when I save my profile while flying the 27, then switch planes to fly the 33, if I load the 27 profile, the bindings are mapped properly but as soon as I return to the game they do not work and are gone when I return to the setup menu.
  6. EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thanks
  7. Hi again everyone. I'm still on the uphill side of the learning curve and now am exploring more of the settings and options in DCS. I find both the User Guide and A/C manual to be lacking explanations for a lot of functions. I recently started going through the adjust controls page and looked at all the functions I had not used like "Cut of Burst" to "Autolock on center of aircraft" to Padlock views to Camera Jiggle. I can't seem to make these functions do anything in the game (probably have to be in a certain condition for them to operate) but I simply cant find reference to any of them in the manuals available online. Is there another source of info? Thanks
  8. Hi all. anyone know how to change the default column widths of the GUI? ....What I mean by that is when I go into Adjust Controls, the column widths for the HOTAS is too narrow. I can drag the column but it resets each time. Thank
  9. **Never mind-figured it.** Apologies in advance for being so long-winded, but I fear if I am not specific, you'll just ask for these details anyway. So this morning I booted up the system and the screen resolution was all wonky. Weird thing is, I didn't make any changes and now I can't get it back to normal. I use three monitors - stacked one above the other. My main display is the top one (47"), followed by a 27" in the middle and may laptop native display on the table in front of me. It's not ideal but it's what I had kicking around. I have been using the top display as my cockpit/world and the medium display below it as the camera or kneeboard in the Su-25T (which means it's usually blank). My laptop screen isn't used for the game but is active. All three monitors are set at 1920x1080. When I normally launch DCS, the flash screen or GUI or mission load screen appear only on the top monitor and appear vertically compressed with black bars above an below; and whatever was on the middle monitor unaffected UNTIL I put focus on the middle monitor, at which point all screens briefly go black, the screen on the top monitor fills and is a normal aspect ratio and my middle screen is a subtle washed out faint red (which is what the plane's TV shows when off), unless I put my kneeboard on. Today, when I booted DCS, the splash screen looked normal but when I changed focus to activate the middle monitor, the screens went black momentarily and then the main screen now filled both the monitors, which, looks totally stupid since they are different sizes plus the GUI is split over 2 screens etc. The only settings I changed yesterday were the Windows 10 font scaling (for all the monitors) and I added the following lines to the ViewportHandling.lua in Scripts/Aircraft/_common/cockpit folder. This allows for different sizing of the kneeboard and it works well. local kneeX = 761 local kneeY = 1040 local kneePosX = 50 local kneePosY = 1100 local x0 = 0 local w0 = 0.5 * LockOn_Options.screen.height if LockOn_Options.screen.oculus_rift then w0 = 0.4 * LockOn_Options.screen.height x0 = 0.18 * LockOn_Options.screen.width end The font scaling may be relevant since I notice if I change font scaling while DCS is running, the screen s will change aspect. Even with those two changes I made, the game ran normally yesterday - even through reboots. This morning it was changed and I don't recall doing anything before shutdown - other then have another glass of Scotch :music_whistling: So far today to trouble shoot, I have reverted back to the original script, put the text scaling back to what they were and toggled the Aero Interface, Full Screen, Scale GUI options and the problem persists. Oddly, the in-game play seems to be alright now...the screens are where they should be, the camera monitor is a washed out pale red as is normal and the kneeboard displays on the second monitor as it should. The only thing I notice different is that the secondary screen is slightly skewed to the left and even when I select full screen mode, there is a scroll bar width of space on the right hand side of the screen that will bring whatever is in the background in Windows forward. Also, if I hit the Esc key to pause, the GUI still overlaps both monitors and if I have the kneeboard showing, both are displayed, so something is still not right. This is how my multi-monitors is set up: The options.lua in the Saved Games folder looks like: ["VR"] = { ["box_mouse_cursor"] = false, ["custom_IPD"] = 63.5, ["custom_IPD_enable"] = false, ["enable"] = false, ["hand_controllers"] = false, ["pixel_density"] = 1, ["prefer_built_in_audio"] = false, ["use_mouse"] = false, }, ["difficulty"] = { ["RBDAI"] = true, ["aircraftMode"] = true, ["avionicsLanguage"] = "english", ["birds"] = 300, ["cockpitStatusBarAllowed"] = true, ["cockpitVisualRM"] = false, ["compassTape"] = true, ["controlsIndicator"] = true, ["easyCommunication"] = true, ["easyFlight"] = false, ["easyRadar"] = true, ["externalViews"] = true, ["fuel"] = true, ["geffect"] = "realistic", ["hideStick"] = false, ["iconsTheme"] = "nato", ["immortal"] = false, ["labels"] = true, ["map"] = true, ["miniHUD"] = false, ["optionsView"] = "optview_all", ["padlock"] = true, ["permitCrash"] = true, ["radio"] = true, ["reports"] = true, ["setGlobal"] = true, ["spectatorExternalViews"] = true, ["tips"] = true, ["units"] = "metric", ["userMarks"] = true, ["userSnapView"] = true, ["weapons"] = true, }, ["format"] = 1, ["graphics"] = { ["DOF"] = 0, ["LensEffects"] = 2, ["MSAA"] = 2, ["SSAA"] = 0, ["SSAO"] = 0, ["anisotropy"] = 2, ["aspect"] = 0.88888888888889, ["chimneySmokeDensity"] = 2, ["civTraffic"] = "low", ["clouds"] = 1, ["clutterMaxDistance"] = 1500, ["cockpitGI"] = 1, ["disableAero"] = true, ["effects"] = 3, ["flatTerrainShadows"] = 0, ["forestDistanceFactor"] = 0.85, ["fullScreen"] = true, ["heatBlr"] = 0, ["height"] = 2160, ["lights"] = 2, ["motionBlur"] = 0, ["multiMonitorSetup"] = "2_monitores-su25t", ["outputGamma"] = 2.2, ["preloadRadius"] = 123100, ["rainDroplets"] = true, ["scaleGui"] = false, ["shadowTree"] = false, ["shadows"] = 2, ["sync"] = false, ["terrainTextures"] = "max", ["textures"] = 2, ["treesVisibility"] = 10000, ["useDeferredShading"] = 1, ["visibRange"] = "High", ["water"] = 2, ["width"] = 1920, }, ["miscellaneous"] = { ["Coordinate_Display"] = "Lat Long", ["F2_view_effects"] = 1, ["TrackIR_external_views"] = true, ["accidental_failures"] = false, ["autologin"] = true, ["chat_window_at_start"] = true, ["collect_stat"] = false, ["f10_awacs"] = true, ["f11_free_camera"] = true, ["f5_nearest_ac"] = true, ["force_feedback_enabled"] = true, ["headmove"] = false, ["show_pilot_body"] = false, ["synchronize_controls"] = false, *SNIP* And the "2_monitores-su25t" looks like this: _ = function(p) return p; end; name = _('2_monitores_su25t'); Description = 'Right MFCD on the right and camera on the center' --TOTAL DEL VIEWPORT Viewports = { Center = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 1920; height = 1080; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 1920/1080; } } --SHKVAL su25t RIGHT_MFCD = { x = 0; y = 1080; width = 1920; height = 1080; }
  10. Thanks for the quick reply. I do have most of the zoom and camera functions bound on my X52, and I can zoom in/out easily. It's just that I like knowing the "dead center" or default position. When you save your position as the new default or "centered" position, that must get recorded to a file, I was just wondering what *.lua it is and what the game default values were. It's not a big thing really, just OCD :D. I don't think it's a trim issue as I use the trim in flight and I will use the leveling autopilot. When I shut it off, the plane remains level but if I get into some tight maneuvers, the plane seems hard to control and 'springy'. Perhaps this is normal and I just didn't notice before. In a real a/c, if you trim the control surfaces to a certain attitude then give stark inputs and then release the controls, naturally the plane will spring back to what you set and possibly get really wonky in the process without further input. That's what is going on here as far as how the plane is reacting except that when I apply full deflection to a control surface and hold it, it eventually loses effectiveness to the point that I have to hold it there just to maintain equilibrium. If I allow the stick to return to center, the plane reacts as if I had put the stick full in the opposite direction to the initial movement. This was confirmed by observing the control surfaces as this was happening; they were showing sometimes full deflection when the stick was centered. No, I have no other hardware assigned and the properties box of the control applet shows 100% normal function.
  11. Hi again, folks. I'm back with a few more questions....not sure if I should bump this thread or start a new one but I will start here. I haven't had a lot of time to spend on DCS in awhile up until today. Made good on the recent sale at DCS and got the FC3, the F5 and some terrain mods for like 60% off. But I am still getting the hang of it so focusing still on flying the Frogfoot. First issue: what file are the zoom settings located and what are their default values? To elaborate, I've messed around with the cockpit zoom levels AND the "Cockpit Camera" which allows forward and back movements that are like zoom but not. Using the zoom, the HUD changes size but using the cockpit camera it does not. Anyway, I used the "save views" function and I want to revert back to default levels but I don't know what they are or where to enter them. Second issue - and this will be challenging to explain: The plane doesn't fly right. In a nutshell, it seems like when I center the stick, the a/c goes in the opposite direction. So, flying around doing normal maneuvers and maintaining a sufficient speed and ensuring the auto pilot isn't on, it appears like I have to steadily increase my stick input to maintain the same amount of deflection then, when I bring the stick back to center, the control surfaces deflect the opposite direction. I verified this by using an external view while maneuvering and sure enough, if I held full back on the stick, the elevators would come up but slowly return to neutral even while maintaining full pull on the stick. Then, when I returned the stick to center - even slowly- the elevators would deflect nose down then gradually return to neutral. What the heck? BTW, I am using an X52 HOTAS and I have check in the Tune Axis section I am at default settings. Finally, I've got an unusual setup with monitors (for now) which amounts to 3 stacked on top of each other (they are all drastically different sizes and I use only the top two to play and use the bottom and closest screen to work from if I pause the game to figure something out). Basically the top 42" monitor is for the cockpit/world, the middle 24" monitor is my air-ground targeting or my kneeboard and my bottom 15" laptop screen is for whatever non-game screen I need. My problem is, I had to make the topmost screen my primary display so that when DCS boots up, thats where it displays. However, I'd prefer my primary display to be the laptop. How do I get DCS to work on my 2 and 3 monitors and not the 1 and 2? Thanks again!
  12. THAT.....looks like something I could get into.:thumbup:
  13. Thanks everyone. Those answer were PERFECT! I am going to proceed with the English mod for the FrogFoot..play a while then go for FC3. Watch your six! MajBach
  14. So I tried bumping an old thread on the topic but it wouldn't let me. So starting new thread. Sorry. Here's what I tried writing: HaHa. So this topic has been answered to death and I won't start a new thread. I'm deciding on my first purchase and I do have some unanswered questions. A little about me: I used to fly single engines professionally but have multi-IFR. I purchased a gaming PC and HOTAS specifically for DCS. I've played the two free modules a fair bit but have not done any multiplayer or campaigns. I'm having a little bit of a challenge getting used to clickable cockpits. I find I can spend days setting up my HOTAS to do 80% of what I want without using a keyboard. Watching the videos, I don't know how people use the clickable cockpit and fly at the same time. I'd stay with the Su25T if it wasnt in Russian. I'm looking to start flying campaigns then get into multi-players. So...go with a cheap mod like A-10 or F-15? Buy the FC3 without knowing if I will even use more than 1 or 2 modules. Splurge and go with a good module like F-5? When you buy any of these modules do they come with training scenarios like the two included in DCS? Do they come with their own missions/campaigns? Are they all multi-player capable? When in multi-player, do you play with others with the same mods or can I have a crappy mod and get paired up with the Tomcat? Thanks in advance.
  15. Why can I not import key bindings saved from my Su25 into the Mustang?
