FYI my copy just finally activated on Steam, so yours probably will too, if you bought yours between the 19th and yesterday-ish.

When is Mi-8 coming to Steam?
Safari Ken replied to Viciouslove's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Someone reported in another thread that once you install the module into a standalone DCS World installation, you can just copy the Mi-8 folder from there into your Steam DCS World installation, and use it normally. That way you can avoid having to keep two DCS Worlds on your PC. -

I read somewhere that they send Steam their sold key list once a month typically. I don't know if that means the 1st of each month or what. I've also been patiently waiting since purchase. I figure it's no problem though, because even if I have to wait, $20 is a hell of a deal, so I had to jump on it. :) -
I assumed it was an alternate account for someone so cowardly, they couldn't bear to even be associated with what they had to say. Judging by the terrible formatting, I'd say it just might be one of the very 12 year-olds that their post is railing against for no reason. However, as a former 12 year-old flight simmer (I'm a SubLogic Flight Simulator baby), I say that if a 12 year-old is willing and capable of flying a full-real sim like the KA-50 or A-10, then bring it on buddy! :pilotfly:

TIR does that because it doesn't care how the game is launched, but I think with Steam, it wouldn't work because you're booting the game through the launcher, and not through Steam. I mean, unless I'm missing something. I've never even thought of just booting up the app directly... how do you choose a mission and stuff?
-
That has never worked for me, since after you choose your mission and head to the cockpit, you're moved into another application, and Steam no longer sees you playing DCSW.
-
I hate to say that I wish it weren't Aerosoft. I haven't been too impressed with their add-ons for FSX, but far from me to discourage another flight sim!
-
There are mods for IL-2? I friggin love that game, and have had it consistently installed since it came out in 2001, and I also love goofing with community-made mods for most games, but I have to say I never even thought to look for any for IL-2. No need for them!

We're up to 5 aircraft now (4 for free, one for $7.62 in the online store). Five is plenty. Not every sim needs be like IL-2 with dozens and dozens of available aircraft (nor did IL-2 even start out like that). And for a paltry (and amusing) $7.62, I'll keep buying them as they come out. I'm happy to support the developers, as they've done a terrific job with RoF. I agree with their business model, as laid out in the "vision statement" they released recently. -

I'm not sure I agree; I have yet to get tired of strafing convoys in IL-2. :pilotfly: -

Yeah that was a good patch. I was having a tough time controlling the aircraft, but now things are much smoother. Plus two free planes, plus the promise of more patches and planes to come! -
Very soon, from what I understand. That's their current focus, now that the first patch has been finished.
-
Today the RoF developers gave us two new planes as a gift! We all now have access to the Albatros D5 and the Nieuport 28. Both are just as good as the two original planes, and your concerns about field of view may not so much of a problem, especially in the Albatros. Also, more planes will be available to purchase, apparently beginning next week. Finally the price has been announced: $7.62 for each new plane. For more detail, check out today's excellent post in the News section: http://riseofflight.com/Blogs/post/2009/07/10/Rise-of-Flight-Vision-Statement.aspx#continue There has been a lot of talk on their forum about having to buy new planes. I was a little worried at first, but $7.62 is certainly very reasonable, and I like their explanation for the unusual business model. I think that sim is going to blossom into something quite special!

Well, I'm enjoying it anyway. :prop:

That top wing really does cut down on visibility. I thank the Great Atheismo every day for my TrackIR. My roommate thinks I'm having a seizure when I'm playing RoF, spastically leaning all over the place to cover my blind spots. :) But it's fine as long as we're all in the same boat. Someone said that it's like a car racing game from 1905... what's wrong with that? A race is a race, as long as all the cars are fairly evenly matched. In RoF it's not like we're trying to down P-51's in those old kites... The patch really did some good things for the controls, by the way. Take-off was a real challenge before, but now it's much better. It may have it's problems, but this is a great, great sim.
