  1. Best for DCS? None. Wait until they switch to Vulkan and hope that this brings better performance. But I doubt this will happen this year. Maaaaaaybe next year, who knows? ED are basically silent about an esrimated release. I gave up DCS VR today due the fact that it went from VR joy to a kick in your VR face.

Can't agree more! :thumbup: +1 I started very shortly before Deferred Shading became a must and since then, the joy gets worse on regular basis :( On day 1 I was very happy with how well DCS performed in VR in the visual/performance-ratio. Now I have to constantly adjust graphics to keep up the performance. Things should get better, not worse and at least I have the feeling that ED still doesn't prioritize VR players, but 2D players which I find backwards-oriented. Sorry 2D pilots, but VR should be priority. If VR performs well, 2D fps are still lightyears ahead... Currently, if there would be a better performing VR sim that is not arcady, I would at least welcome it with open arms... simply out of frustration that my overall experience gets worse instead of better. While others happily clap their hands when the Hornet gets "latent track while scan" and new ordnance with complex guiding manuals... I would prefer no new additions for months until the performances increases significantly. +1 Sorry for all the rage and I am surely not alone. I am just so frustrated because DCS has been super enjoyable for me and now I am spending more time twerking settings and files than actually flying. There was a time I double clicked the DCS icon, started a mission and had flawless fun for hours....

  4. Log in next post. DCS simply closes, no error or crash window. Just... closed. It happens after 30-60 seconds in the game menu. I did a fresh install of the base game (Open Beta) and didn't install any modules yet... I dont't know why the log still says something about the HB F-14... Nvidia drivers are up to date as per nvidia Experience (419.67). GPU/CPU temperature is fine. Did a cleanup and repair. I deleted the fxo and metashaders2 folder. I even deleted the DCS.openbeta folder in 'saved games'. Still the same... Ryzen 2600 GTX 1080 32gb RAM SSD
  5. Thx! I tried to install the Lite version, but it shows "no response" from the game at launch after 10 minutes. "no reponse" is a bad sign, isn't it?
  6. I want to freshly install DCS but I dont want to configure keybinds and HOTAS controls for the F-14 and F-18 again. Where do I find the file, so I can copy and paste it after the installation? Is it one file for both planes or does each have it's own?
  7. 1) What do you guys input for MASKSIZE on the Odyssey+? 2) Does ingame MSAA setting have any effect with this mod? As I can see, kegety posted a pic with this settings and it shows "off"
  8. As stated already: In general, throwing VR headset after headset into the market is not the solution. We are already at a nice state with Odyssey+ and Pimax and of course they will get better over time just like TVs. But they rush it more than the hardware is able to keep up. Bascially every new HMD is grinding the edge of top notch hardware. The "best" VR headsets out there can't play top notch graphics with top notch performance. Why do we need more FOV, more PD more everything AT THE MOMENT? Why are games still running on single core speed? Imagine you could AND SHOULD have 2x to 3x the power which is currently used in any game... Why are all games still on DirectX if everybody says that Vulkan is the way to go. Instead, all you hear is "you need DirectX12 for raytracing, believe us!" Really? Do I? If developers would make use of multiple cores a regular, we could already be there and wouldn't have to worry if our PC specs can match the HMDs requirements.
  9. Everything else ED has done is awesome! DCS itself including the modules, the maps, the planes and their systems... I am only referring to the VR topic and as others have stated, I also think that ED simply has no idea how to optimize VR to a level where other games already are. So yeah, I lost faith, but I am always ready for a surprise and at least I would be ready for a "current state" about VR performance optimization.
  10. I gave up hopes on DCS getting optimized on VR... We hear about switiching from DirectX to Vulkan for ages... and for ages we didn't get any update on this. I don't think it is easy for ED to pull off, but in my opinion VR optimization should be number one priority for ED before spending ressources on anything else. Since the CV1 came out, I think VERY FEW users here, if any, claimed to have top settings with top performance or at least close to it, while other sims (flying and racing) get much better results. (IL2, Asetto Corsa, prepar3d, ...) I understand it is not an easy task, but I am disappointed that there has not been word for a long time about focusing on VR optimizations. The neckbreaker was definitely when they took away the option to turn off "Deferred Shading". Having it ON per hardcoding was a huuuuge performance hit in VR and nobody was happy about it.
  11. I agree, that's why I would like to try what I asked for. But as I also said, due to my lack of stereoscopic vision, the ressources needed for producing a 3D picture in the headset are a waste for me. Just like paying for a 3D movie :D So I want the headset to basically act like TrackIR. In a BMS thread somewhere, a guy used the current usual workaround with OpenTrack and Virtual Desktop to use 2D in VR with great fps, then he used TriDef and that cost him ~40% fps. I found this quote regarding the same idea for Asetto Corsa: Therefor I expect more OR at least more stable fps in DCS too. 20-30% sounds good in my book...
  12. Were you using the O+? How did you disable 2D? How come the readabilty is even better than in "regular" VR? Sounds interesting so far...
  13. Still, i would like to know if it's possible to run the Odyssey+ in 2D in DCS. I got Virtual Desktop and OpenTrack... Any idea? Basically it would have the headset displaying the same picture on both lenses, so no 3D effect and maybe (MAYBE!) creating an fps boost. Help me on the technical side and I will try it out for you :)
