  1. Yes, in theory HARMs would be a valid tactic against a ship. They can certainly detect and track the ship's radars, and should absolutely be able to destroy them with a hit. Attacking a ship with multiple radar systems would be much like attacking a SAM site with multiple radar systems: just select the system you want to target. I expect someday this will work in DCS. Once the ship damage model gets a rework. That'll probably happen after the new damage model gets implemented for modern jets.
  2. This doesn't seem to be functioning as intended right now, or is not yet fully implemented. As far as I know Hidden on MFD does nothing, but it does seem like it is intended to hide the unit from the Hornet's SA Page and Viper's HSD Page. Currently, selecting Hidden On Map hides the unit from the F10 map in game and on the in-aircraft MFDs. Selecting Hidden On Planner hides the unit in the Mission Planner if the player selects that before starting the mission.
  3. Cold Start version of the campaign is available here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3315461/
  4. It probably means that whatever way you managed to crash this time, the game registered you as being heavily damaged before being completely destroyed. Total FCS and MC failure is a common thing to see in the log when you're hit by a missile and die, but aren't destroyed until your flaming wreckage hits the ground.
  5. As far as I know, it does two things: Changes the locking gate trackers to look for an object that is significantly wider than it is tall, so something that is ship shaped rather than vehicle shaped. Changes the guidance logic to target a ship at the waterline rather than the object centroid. Neither changes are apparent in the targeting video feed. The waterline targeting shift doesn't occur until the missile is launched, so before launch you will still see the tracking gates locked on the target centroid. I don't know if it really does anything at all in DCS, and even if it does the ship damage model in DCS right now means it's ultimately meaningless. On the AGM-65G, SHIP mode is activated by a physical switch on the missile. I have no idea if the F version really includes a software toggle for this on the MFD or if it's a DCS thing.
  6. Version 2.6 is now live. There are a handful of changes: -Mission 3: Lowered Enemy AI skill level. Changed MiG-29 loadout to 2x R-27R and 4x R-60. -Mission 13: More reliable triggers for starting the strike. -Mission 14: Corrected briefing to add instructions for utilizing AI wingman. Unfortunately adding the Cold Start version of the campaign made the file size exceed the maximum allowed on DCS User Files, so it'll need to be a different download. Once that gets approved and is live I will post an update.
  7. This mission has gone through several evolutions. Even when I initially designed it I did so with the idea of using the Radar SEA mode to complete it. For a long time everyone was playing this mission on hard mode When first released I did give the player F Mavs because using the triangle on the HUD was the best way to do it. This was before the FLIR was even released for the Hornet at all. Now, I think there are two methods which are most effective: Using the Radar in SEA Mode and using that to handoff to either the FLIR for a Mav E attack, or directly to a Mav F. Finding the boats with NVGs and using VVSLV to fly the FLIR onto them. This was the best method pre-SEA Mode, but it's no longer the easiest way to do it I don't think, especially since boats seem to be more difficult to spot in NVGs now. As others have said, this mission is random and will be different every time you play it, be sure to pay attention to which target is called out by Wizard. The launchers will be at the called out target location, and generally will be parked out in the open in front of the large hanger-like buildings. Designate the target waypoint, and you should be able to find them in the FLIR pretty easily. This is what you're looking for: This is a combo of stupid DCS AI and me fucking up. The AI doesn't really know how to use standoff weapons, so they'll launch a SLAM and then follow it right into the target and get shot down. You need to tell your wingman to attack, then tell him to rejoin right after he launches, then repeat. I wrote up a note about this in the mission briefing, but then apparently never copied it out of my master document and into the mission They'll be an update coming later tonight with fixes and the Cold Start version.
  8. I'm using an older Virpil throttle too, but many of the buttons will be similar. Here's what I'm doing:
  9. I've got an older Virpil throttle, but many of the buttons on the grip at least will be similar. Here's what I did:
  10. That's the sort of thing that is set in the D/L UFC menu, it's not implemented yet. I don't think it'll look like the A-10C though, as that uses SADL not MIDS / Link16. I expect the datalink ID setup in the Hornet will look a lot more like the Viper.
  11. Yup, I came up with a better way of accomplishing the same thing in another mission and need to change this one over to the new system (setting a flag as each flight arrives at the hold point, rather than drawing a circle and waiting for everyone to be in it). I hope to release an update soon which will solve a few issues like this, and include the cold start version. It's typically best to let all or most of the other flights take off before you do. It sounds like desk crew plane directors are high on the priority list for the Super Carrier, so I'm hopeful that will solve this problem.
  12. The part you need to edit is the "stage" and "mission" headings at the end of the campaign list. To pass the mission 5 aircraft need to be hit. The three out in the open, which are your targets, and the two in the hanger which are your wingman's targets. Make sure you're telling your wingman to attack his targets on the right radio channel, and that he acknowledges it and attacks. Sometimes you need to tell him multiple times, but once he gets the instruction he's usually pretty good at hitting his targets.
  13. Again, the problem is that if you see targets with your eyes outside the canopy, Snowplow is not the mode you want. The answer is not to ask for an unrealistic HUD indication in Snowplow mode, but to wait for more modes that actually do what you want to be added. DTOS is a bomb delivery mode that shares a lot with the Maverick VIS delivery mode. It will place a TD box on the HUD caged to the flight path marker. You can then slew that box around the HUD with the Cursor, and press TMS Up to ground stabilize and designate a target. Once you do that, the TGP will snap to that location, allowing you to refine the target point and release a weapon on it. It's basically everything you want, you just need to wait for it to be implemented.
  14. Frag altitude for GP bombs is a known value too, and the aircraft displays that. Otherwise your entire post is just guesswork. I, for one, would prefer ED stay away from topics where 100% of the implementation is just guesswork.
  15. Current planned feature list is here:
  16. For an exclusively A/A mission? Always JHMCS.
  17. Cool. You must have access to more documents than I do, so I'll take your word for it. I'm only guessing at how it should work.
  18. In the general method of employment, sure, but in the specifics? In the Hornet does a B61 use the same CCIP or Auto symbiology as any other GP bomb? Are there indications of blast radius and safe escape distance for the detonation? Anyone who knows the answer to this has access to classified information and isn't going to tell us.
  19. I think a major part of the problem right now is that Snowplow is being forced to fill a roll it was never meant for. The purpose of Snowplow mode is to search a broad area for a target and acquire it on the TGP screen. You should be looking at the TGP for the target, then when you see it TMS up to stabilize and slew on to it. This technique requires no outside reference other than pointing the aircraft generally in the right direction. But, right now, people are using it to acquire a target they can see with their eyes outside the jet and trying to get the TGP onto it. That's not what Snowplow is meant for. That function is much better served by DTOS and JHMCS A/G Mode, neither of which have been implemented yet.
  20. I don't think this part is true. I don't imagine the AACQ cross disappears when the cursor is over a track. SCS will command acquisition of a track under the cursor if one exists, but that's Fast Acquisition (FACQ) not AACQ so I don't imagine it would effect the AACQ cross.
  21. ED has said in the past that they're not touching nukes on any aircraft. Too many potential pitfalls; technical, political, and security, to make it worthwhile. Plus nuclear weapons delivery is one of the most classified topics of any US combat aircraft. I'm not aware of a single publicly available document that details the process of arming and delivering a nuclear weapon in any aircraft, even ones that have been retired for decades. The cockpit switchology and symbiology would be pure guesswork.
  22. Yup, those look like CBU-99s / Mk.20s. Those are both physically smaller than the CBU-87 and CBU-97 and lighter, 490lbs vs 950lbs.
  23. Generally, only the ROE option will effect wingmen engaging targets. But, it's pretty easy to try deleting everything and seeing if it has an effect. The easiest way of troubleshooting AI problems I've found is to just start removing complexities until it starts working, then add them back in until you can isolate and replicate the problem.
  24. This isn't something that's enabled in the Mission Editor, it's a in-cockpit function. You need to box AUTO on either the HSI or SA pages.
  25. The COMBAT button filters the Country list. When enabled, all Countries belonging to the Neutral faction are removed from the list, so that it shows only Blue and Red factions. The watch button on the bottom enables historical filtering. It will only allow you to select units that are historically appropriate for the time period of your mission.
