  1. I notice that when I am in a dogfight (usually instant action against the dora) if there's a situation where we are both getting slow into the vertical and i hold for just a split second too long to try for a shot and the controls get mushy or I even stall, that the engine instantly overheats and soon gives up the fight. I've tried chopping throttle and rpm when I notice that I've slowed too much, but perhaps Im too slow on the controls. Any advice on engine managmeent through the speed changes encountered in a dogfight would be great. Thanks
  2. That's interesting, I hadn't heard that before.
  3. Does the accelerated stall feel correctly modeled? She departs for me with no buffet. You really have to be ginger on the stick. most of what I o is the instant action dogfight witht the dora. My curve is 14 my y sat is down to 45% it keeps it from shedding wings from accelerated stalls at high speeds and the low speed manueverability doesnt seem to be affected by it much, hasnt cost me a dogfight yet. I havent fought at high alt because I dont have an extra axis on this joystick to bind ram to. so I've stayed low.(er)
  4. Thanks for that from an engine management standpoint, do you ever switch the fuel from run to full rich? Whenever I click on it in flight it cycles to 'off' first before going to full rich. Curious if there's extra ponies in there for the hassle? Is it altitude specific?
  5. Thanks for the input. I found that the wing ripping off is from the accelerated stall that is induced from initiating too much pitch too quickly. It stalls a wing (usually the left) and if your speed is high enough it rips that wing off. I remember reading about all the wings falling off p51's in wwii... epidemic (/sarcasm) As it's the suddeness of the pitch change that leads me to believe it's responsible for ripping my wing off, I lowered the X axis curve for pitch down until this phenomena stopped. That was at 45% on the x axis. For curve I use 15%. I have not torn a wing off since and still have what feels like plenty of low speed control authority. typically when Im in a fight, I am on the throttle. I dont use wep because Im terrified that I'll nuke the engine. When you're fighting, are you coming off throttle and RPM for manuevering or something? Also, anytime I get into the vertical and dont have enough speed to carry me over the top (maybe im hanging too long for a shot solution) I nuke the engine immediately. Is there something from an engine management standpoint that I should do in a situation like this to save the engine? Pulling power and rpm's back does not seem to help. I heard we used 100 130 and 150. (looks like they modelled 100 here?) It's frustrating to be at a 500 hp defecit to your opponents when that doesnt appear to be historically the case. That could be from me being raised in america under the proganda of the indomitable p51. So my view could be biased, it just seems that the germas (with MW 50) have a tremendous advantage.
  6. the p51 enters an accelerated stall at a lot of speeds. This is where one wing stalls and the plane tries to flip over. Everyone telling you that you're pulling too hard is correct, but the p51 is orders of magnitude more sensitive to elevator input than the other warbirds ive flown. To help, I took my pitch x axis down to 45% and gave it a 15% curve. This will also keep your wing from falling off at high speed and you pull too hard on the stick stalling a wing (usually the left) and snapping it off.
  7. Wings fall off engine readily degrades and dies for a long list of reasons any damage received is lethal Engine seems underpowered (MAP should go higher? like 72 or 75. cant remember what I read) I thought the p51 was america's front line fighter and capable of quite a bit, but it's clearly outclassed as modeled here, particularly when compared to the dora 9. Here it's more of a ground and pound vehicle and the P47 is way better in that role.
  8. Well, the initial out of trim gripe went away after about a day. At the start of a mission the p51 would jerk nose low and left and it would take all the way to the merge to get her trimmed out correctly. Now she's back to her normal trimmed self. So it might have been on my end or was a ghost patch. anyway, back to the p51. I've noticed that if I go from instant action to mission editor and select the p51 d30 as my ride (instant action uses the d25 I think) it can mess with your stick profiling a bit. I know I've had to redo the p51 axis curves a couple times flipping between the two birds. The combat flaps on the pony are great out to 400mph I usually do well on the stick pulling unless I have one on my tail. It's very hard to be smooth and not go into an accelerate stall with tracers zipping by
  9. Hello, I am new to the game and the site and have an older rift headset that I am using with the game. The first thing I noticed is that there is no cockpit limit to head movement. Meaning I can stick my head outside the glass. The sound gets louder and everything. If I stand up, Im literally standing in the cockpit. It's cool and stuff, but not realisitic. Is there a way to restrict or limit head movement in game so that it doesnt push past the 3d modeling of the aircraft' cockpit? my head will even go through the seat bakck behind me when looking around. it's an effect that breaks the immersion thanks for the help and sorry if this has been covered before.
  10. Hi all, Im pretty new to DCS, I fly it offline and own most of the wwii warbirds with the exception of the spit. I flew a hop last night in the p-51 and it was like butter. Handled sweet, stick light in the hand etc. This morning, first hop I go to do the single mission in instant action where you dogfight the dora and when I click fly the plane rolls hard left and nose down. It takes 10 - 15 seconds to get it trimmed and by that time the fight has long been joined sonce you only have about 5 seconds before the merge on instant action. It did it 3 times in a row. I tried the dora and she handled just fine. anyone else notice a change like this is there anything to do about it like save trim settings? Thanks for the help
