Although it probably isn't the suggestion you would wish for a fresh Windows install wouldn't go amiss. If you have a separate partition you could install a fresh copy on it wouldn't be such a pain reinstalling everything else and dual boot. I have gone down the route of a Windows 11 and Windows 10 dual boot after my Windows 11 install wouldn't run a racing sim.

Also note this thread which suggest the GPU is working harder with 2.8, which might explain why it is working your PC differently than 2.7 and finding any instability with the GPU when strained.

I went the Steam to Standalone route some time ago but I don't think you need to do this to switch to OpenXR and bypass SteamVR?

I think this is definitely the next thing to try to eliminate anything non standard.

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators

I have just updated to 2.5.4 and it is working fine for me (testing with the ka-50), so I don't think it is a general issue with the release. Is this with DCS stable or open beta? -
My gut feel is that 2.8 is tipping your PC over the edge if you're getting reboots and BSODs. I had this in the past with a well know racing sim - it was the only thing that caused the PC to hang but I am sure it was down to PC cooling and was the one thing that would stress my PC enough to tip it over. I fixed it temporarily by constraining the FPS to a fixed level rather than running free and permanently by improving the PC cooling. If I overclock my 8600K to 5.0 GHz it will occasionally BSOD, again typically when under heavy load with a racing or flying sim. At 4.9 it runs fine. Although DCS 2.8 is the one factor that causes it and so is the culprit, it may well be that it is pushing your GPU or CPU to a level where your PC I can't cope which 2.7 didn't. Just a thought.

I have recently started using OpenKneeboard in VR. It really is excellent and you can set a max width so that landscape pdfs display with the correct aspect ratio whilst other portrait tabs are also correct as it resizes the kneeboard automatically. If you have a graphics tablet you can make notes and also navigate the pdf's content menu to quickly move between chapters etc. It is a great complement to Chuck's Guides in VR IMHO.

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
Baldrick33 replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I managed to get it working by editing the Simshaker.lua file in my Program Files (x86)\SimShaker\SimShaker for Aviators Beta\Data folder as below (around line 430) elseif obj.Name == "Mi-24P" then elseif obj.Name == "A-4E-C" then elseif obj.Name == "MB-339A" or obj.Name == "MB-339PAN" then dataTable.name = "M-2000C" In my case the file cannot be saved so I saved it in another folder, deleted the original (admin access prompted) and copied it. Not sure how much is working but the jetseat worked with a quick test. -
I have recently added a dual boot Win 11 & 10 after having some problems with iRacing VR performance with Win 11. The Win 10 partition is for games and has the bare minimum stuff running. It fixed the iRacing performance issue, haven’t seen it reported elsewhere so may be specific to my hardware. I now run DCS on the Win 10 partition though I can’t say I notice any difference in performance. I just feel a bit happier having a partition “protected” from general PC utility installations and updates.

No change here either -
I noticed that SSAO was on which I am pretty sure was off before but it could be my error. I have turned it off. What was my error was that after a recent reinstallation I had some problems with opencomposite for a racing sim so I used the application specific method. I had forgotten to replace the openvr dll file after the update so must have been running SteamVR at below 45fps hence the stuttering and no OpenXR tools to boost frame rates. Replacing the file and turning on terrain shadows seems to have regained the fps in my initial test.

I ran a simple downloaded mission, Helicopter agility testing with the Mi-24 earlier today pre patch. This runs easily at a steady 45 fps on my PC with a Reverb G1 using OpenXR I updated and ran the same mission and it is (IMHO) unplayable in VR, I use motion reprojection and it didn't feel like I was even reaching the lowest level of 22 in OpenXR. I haven't touched any settings - maybe there is a new setting in 2.8 that needs adjusting?

Still downloading here but there should be a recentre VR mapping under UI Layer

I quite agree. Just that not everybody shares our understanding of business criticality

Friday patch day. Hmmm, what do you think of the chances that everyone will be calm and relaxed if some bugs appear over the weekend when they can't be fixed until Monday. Somewhere between slim and none!

You are right in the sense that the energy consumption of pretty much everything we use will be under scrutiny. That said gaming is still a very low cost form of entertainment, you can have an awful lot of hours of 500W usage compared with a pint of beer or going to the cinema etc.

Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?

Thanks, that is very useful info -
Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
Baldrick33 replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
I have an 8600k running at 5GHz, is a newer CPU going to make much if any difference? My 2080Ti appears to be the bottleneck - at least in the mostly simple single player stuff I do. So wondering if a 3090Ti or 4090 is the next step or will the CPU hold either back? -
Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
Baldrick33 replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
Although Overclockers don't show prices yet for the various 4090 cards they show as coming soon, the price filter updates at the bottom left to £1759-£2490 ! -
Brilliant! Thanks for the prompt reply

How does the brake lever function as an axis compare between the VPC Contactless Sensor in the Alpha and the analog version in the CM2? Thinking of the experience in the Mosquito and Spitfire. I prefer the design of the Alpha Prime but just want to be sure the brake lever works reasonably as a progressive lever.

Baldrick33 replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
That isn't my experience, anything less than 90fps without motion smoothing is anything but super smooth for me. I guess I am sensitive to it but there are clear steps as the frames update especially close to the ground. It just ruins the immersion for me to the extent I would rather put up with reprojection issues like looking through propellers etc. Each to their own I guess.
