  1. Thats cause we brainwashed our third world allies GOOD!

    FPS?

Well, I look at BS, and they did great. So I hope that one day, they will put in player controlled vehicles and FPS. OFP2 looks like they are trying to go towards actual simulation. The comparison between the Arma Javelin and the OFP2 Javelin is laughable. OFP2 has a realistic javelin with flir, controls, etc. In Arma you get a pipe with a crosshair. :music_whistling: Its just junk. Why did they even bother? But OFP2 didn't put in any player controlled aircraft, so that makes me think they are probably not much farther along than Arma. Instead of putting in disappointing junk like Arma, they just forewent the whole thing. Therefore, why bother with a huge Island? So, in the end, I will probably stick with Crysis, and hope that with time, someone like DCS will start to simulate ground units and troops in a very realistic fashion.

    FPS?

Well, from the massive amounts of "arma 2 sucks" posts on the internet, I am definitely with the masses. Putting wings on a wagon, and welding an iron crosshair to it do not a jet make. Nor a heli for that matter. The AI are so stupid, its a wonder they don't commit suicide in mass. Your obviously one of the die hard arma fanboys. The masses like me are waiting for something far better, and we know it can be made. Crysis proves this. The only thing that prevents some modders from bringing in more realistic jets and heli's right now is a mapping bug that prevents you from having large maps. A guy named CWright is developing aircraft and trying to get Crytek to fix the bug. Also, through mass community pressure, Crytek seems to finally be adding to their wiki. Though this still has a long way to go. Seeing what Crysis has achieved, I expect far more from Bohemia. And as far as I can tell, they have done nothing with Arma 2 except rip off some programming from the ACE mod, and improve the graphics a little. Otherwise, its just the same old arma crap with the same old bugs. I think in the end, it will fail just like Arma did. It will be interesting to see what OFP 2 will give us, as it looks like it may be something like Crysis and Arma combined, with a huge map. But that is something yet to be determined. Hopefully, they will include a very good SDK with it.
  4. Yeah, I think putting bomb on heli's is from the pre-good AA era. :P If you want to bomb, flip your hud to standy recticle, get up really high, then power dive straight down, 90 degrees perpendicular to the ground. Get your sight on the target when you can see it, then release as high up as you can. Now pull up without ripping your rotors off. Good luck. :pilotfly:
  5. Lol, not really. Helicopters were never really meant to be bombers. I have never in reality seen a helicopter loaded with bombs. I think this is some engineers dream or maybe its for when you've lost all your jets and have a few heli's left. Time for volunteers! As you may have noticed, there is no CCIP or CCRP mode on the hud. You just drop and pray. :megalol:

    FPS?

Oh please, the Ai won't even respond to my commands, even when they are being hit by rounds! The aircraft have nothing but a big bullseye for a hud! And this is not like its a first step. Arma has been around for quite a while. I really can't see much difference between Arma and Arma 2, except they changed the terrain a little. Maybe a little better graphics, but still nothing great. Just go on the internet and look up all the "Arma 2 sucks" threads. There's a lot of em. Arma 2 was tossed out half baked. At least they could have got the AI working. Now we have to sit back and wait for patch after patch after patch. No thanks. I'll be waiting to see what OFP2 is going to look like. I think they will be doing a better job, but we will see.

    FPS?

Well, I think it actually would work out pretty good the way DCS is doing it. Just sell everything piece by piece. First is Black Shark, then A10, then Longbow, etc. They could sell an infantry soldier module, a Shilka module, a Linebacker module, and on and on. Just like plastic model kits are sold. Anything not developed for players is just kept Ai, like it is currently. I agree, I think Arma tried to do everything at once, and just pushed it out in a hurry aiming at the pre-teen crowd who aren't too picky. And it was a disaster (well, at least for the serious adults). Arma 2 is the right idea, but Bohemian just did a really lousy, could care less, just throw it out, job on it. Its frustrating. I tell the AI to attack an enemy APC right in front of them, they say OK, then just sit there. They get hit by fire, and still sit there. Only when they get hit bad, do they finally start firing. Buggy as hell. The AI on BS may have some problems, buts its nowhere near as bad as Arma 2. Piece by piece, with time spent on detail is much better and well worth waiting for.

    FPS?

Yeah, I just tried ARMA 2. It sucked. Graphics are "ok", but their is no realism in the vehicles. The Ka-52 just has a big bullseye decaled over the hud. Flight model is arcade. Even the firearms kind of suck. Guess I'll keep on waiting... I hope that after DCS has made a few good aircraft, they will think about sticking in realistic player controlled infantry and ground vehicles. Just make em as real as your aircraft. I think you guys could do so much better of a job than Arma or Codemasters. Your work on Black Shark speaks volumes. @Wanderer - The rest of the area doesn't have to be dead. You could fill it with a.i. units that are supporting the player forces in the town or whatever. Just like it is now. I'm not saying that everyone has to be a human player, only that that would be the best play. Humans could be all in one area or attacking multiple targets in multiple areas. They could also be mixed in with some a.i. support, though I hate that. I prefer my unit all human. You would find it much harder attacking tricky monkey's armed with Iglas and ZSU's :p

    FPS?

Actually, that happens all the time in Crysis. DAM THE VTOLS !!

    FPS?

Hey, fuel tanks will explode if you drop em from high enough altitude!
  11. Hmm, I've changed weapons while sitting on the pad. I just called up the ground crew over the intercom and requested them to change to whatever. Took em a little while, then, bam, new weapons. Worked fine for me. I don't think the AS-10 Karen is in game.
  12. Well, first off, Radeons are infamous for driver problems. Maybe someone with a card like that can help you with drivers. I would try to reinstall, and see if it happens again. Your definitely missing pics. But yeah, it looks like driver problems. As for going back to desktop before it starts, thats normal. Just how they did it.
  13. I have noticed some problems with the cannon ammo. The HE-T round which is supposed to be used against unarmored vehicles, infantry, and aircraft seems to go through armored BMP-2's like they were nothing. One burst from my cannon with HE blows them up. Yet when I hit the same BMP's with the AP-T, I can shoot and shoot and shoot, and it hardly does anything. Sometimes nothing at all. The HE shouldn't penetrate BMP-2 armor at all. Its just a mine shell filled with high explosive gel. The AP should penetrate up to 16mm of armor which is what the BMP-2 has. I was firing at it at about 1.5 km.

    FPS?

I don't know what some of you guys are talking about when you say it is years away. Its already been done. Arma and OFP. Really, the hardest part is the flight and vehicle sims, FPS players are really nothing but a floating camera. There's no flight model or anything. Look at Crysis. The player is nothing but a floating camera with some animation put into it. If you turn off weapon inertia ( just animation, though some of the die hards will never admit it), you can see what your player is, nothing more than a floating camera going in a straight line. VERY simple coding. The real CPU drain in Crysis is the graphics. Not any complex mathematical models. So adding fps to BS would cost very little cpu wise. The problems with putting fps into BS will be adding more network slots for players ( you'll probably want to have at least 40 players, but it really would be good to have a max far beyond that ), and how to make the game fun with a large area. Also, adding as much graphics in the end as a high end computer could handle. I think to the level of Arma 1 would be acceptable, considering the complex flight models already in place. Its not all about graphics. I've been playing Infiltration (UT1 mod) for years, and its ten years old now. People still play it because its the most realistic infantry sim there is. I think the map Battle is a good example for a large Arma style map. The area's not so big that it would be too much for foot soldiers, yet big enough for heli's and planes to get around. Thats for just a single mission map with one objective. If you could put in more players you maybe could have 2 or 3 objectives ( like small towns ) being attacked at once. Then the area could be larger, and it works in better with the need for air support. Believe me, Crysis has some large maps, and with vehicles - the players get around quick. There is need for attack and support by air. People in Crysis are still crying out for jets and larger maps. In the end, like I said, its already been done. Its just that the other guys are coming from the FPS end forwards. I'd like to see DCS do it in the opposite direction, coming from the flight sim, because the hardest part has already been done. FPS is much easier to code than flight sim. Literally, we already have the best parts of the world. All it takes is a little better terrain graphics and models. Then just add some floating cameras with a little animation.

    FPS?

If you look at the terrain in BS, its pretty much just arma 1 with a few less trees. Really, this game seems to me like Arma 1, just with better aircraft. Stick in a few more buildings and trees with playable infantry and vehicles and you would have Arma 1. If you hover at 3 feet above the ground, looking around everywhere, what is the difference between that and a foot soldier looking around? There is no difference. FPS could be put into this game easily. But of course, you would probably still be limited by netcode to small amounts of people, just like arma or crysis. As for computer power, I play BS on a 2.0 ghz laptop with an 8600 card. The average FPS player has an overclocked high end rig, running with a high end video card. Their machines could easily handle BS. I figure this game with an FPS in it would still not take as much power as Crysis, which brings high end rigs to their knees. There are a lot of players out there looking for the next hardcore infantry sim. I personally don't believe it has been made yet. OFP2 and Arma unfortunately do not deliver. The vehicles / aircraft in them are jokes. They are still just games. People like me are looking for a marriage between FPS and flight / vehicle sims, which will make everything as real as it gets. i.e. the real world.
