  1. Mods maybe a thread for Arduino like 3D prints?

My question, when you buy a Thrustmaster MFD, it knows each of the buttons.

Is it possible to add something at the button so multiple buttons could run on the same loop?

I have an idea but I don’t want 30 wires or circuit boards so it’s available to everyone.

The dev has made it pretty clear that he did not expect it to slip to Dec and he'd be surprised if it did, and promised to delete his account on the ASC discord if it did.  And he said NO WAY to a January release, so very high probability (barring any other ED rather than ASC issues) I'd be pretty confident it's still coming by end of Nov (note that I have been over-optimistic before, but this time I'm really, really sure).

I am of a similar opinion and no discredit to DCS, I feel that DCS update things so quickly every developer is in a fight, a fight that was not considered when pricing their part.

I don’t want to spread ‘rumoured bar talk’ but everything is a complex beast to make this sim the best ever (well once we get dynamic campaigns it will be) and the reason I only fly here is its detail.

But since the Hawk issue (although ISTR they tried their own way) my feelings were the constant improvement in the DCS engine made it hard for developers to meet the level DCS demands.

Obviously I am talking out of my hoop but it’s definitely a complex machine to make it all great and fair.

Those who have been holding their breath for the imminent release are slowly turning blue.

I think its born from the thankless task of trying to release on a date at the minute every bug known is fixed only to find it isnt, then comes the pain....

Dont know about the company making this, maybe its their QA from other sims, maybe its ED, but I couldnt even get it within 2 months in September, asking is it planned for October or November or other.....got nothing except the usual site replies.....2 weeks.

I often wonder if Trump is a DCS player as he uses "2 weeks" as much as the forums if you ask when and we were doing it years before! (Sorry for the politics, was meant light hearted not political)

I think I actually am going to use this plane, that is not the case for 95% of my other modules. If I use it 57 hours it cost me aone buck an hour witch is not expensive

Thats how I look at games, go to the Cinema, I dont know what price it is across the globe but probably $20 here in Aus, for max 2 hours. Plus you only get to see it once and you dont get your money back if it is absolutely trash.

Although I dont use Steam for DCS, I do refund mis-sold garbage elsewhere. Dont think I have once regretted a DCS Module, I may not use them but thats my issue, possibly done less than 10 hours in the Mirage for example, but dont regret buying it.

  5. Is anyone planning on a C-130J cockpit?

I assume (rightly or wrongly) the DCS version compared to others with its military use in game (sooner or later - thinking dynamic campaign) and in my opinion a more accurate sim than any others despite their huge backing, a lot of people will move over from Civ sims where you can see in the Home Cockpits full 747/A-300 types are built.

I cannot wait to see the community here grow and some of the outstanding advancements of big desktops!

    Thoughts?

  6. Looks like new "hotas" type controllers will be on the purchase list, sure the old Thrusmaster Warthog will be fine for a while but if I get into this like I want to, I may be spending some $$$

I am not sure the Herc will be any less complex than A-10 (or any other fighter/attacker we have in DCS). Quite the opposite actually. The question is how much of the complexity you can disregard and still get it flying.

It will be interesting for sure! 😅

Fair enough, i don’t think you are wrong, i was more on about learning to program every weapon on the F-16 (for example) or landing an F-18 in proper carrier patterns on top of weapons and navigation, now dont get me wrong, I wouldn’t change it or fly a dumbed down version, I might pick up those jets again if the dynamic campaign works well but I can’t fly often enough to join a server and be proficient so it’s SP only for me.

I'm just so happy, that we finally get to fly "big birds" in the DCS environment. No discussion, that logistic is a vital (actually the most vital) part of any military operation...
but even without that, I'm thrilled that we get the Herc!

I am the same, I am getting a bit overrun with all the complexities of the jets, take my hat off to the pilots but to be honest they dont spend 8 hours a day writing contracts then try and learn to fly in their spare time.

I actually wanted a module like this in DCS because I dont like MSFS, it never seems right. The DCS World always feels authentic and whilst I dont doubt this will be a complex beast looking at the cockpits, MFDs and those Data Input panels the A-10 has (sorry forgot the name MCDU??) I like the idea of learning to fly a Herc, my mate was a Loady on the C-130 and he always used to say "low and slow is the only way to go" spending 6 hours plus transiting from the UK to Cyprus or wherever I didnt agree with him!

  9. Just a note on that file, I printed the first one to test it and it might be flex or my poor design but the screen easily slides in the top but not at the bottom so I will need to cut some off it.

Also, its nice and sturdy, but used a 3/4 full vat of resin just for the left MFD, part 1 of 4, might be able to hollow it but I think the weight will hold it as a free supported desktop. I also added some steps to glue them together but still need to put holes in for the usb and power cables from the MFD and Screen.

Small update here but note its NOT got holes for usb and I have NOT increased the gap for the screen to slide in.

Cheap screen I have is a BNZTRUK USB 3 from ebay.

RHGS for printing.stl Right MFD.stl LHGS for printing.stl Left MFD.stl

  10. Hey I am working on this, I am very green to Fusion and 3d.

My idea is to create this that a basic USB3 ebay monitor slides into, monitor I have is about 27cm by 19.5cm but thats irrelevent right now.

Its printed in 4 parts but I am yet to join then for gluing but thought I would share my weekends work anyway, if anyone is interested and wants to improve or make changes, please share them.

I thought I might be able to reduce the center 'gap' and make the screen capable of doing the right hand instruments but doubt that will work with the angle of the screen, also room for a small RWR and the screen for the F-16 UFC, maybe the right hand panel could fit a Frankenstein UFC in a workable position?

But just something to add, Autodesk Fusion free.

    Thank you.

    Hi there,

I am considering doing something like you did, but with a Meta Quest 3 (due to the passthrough).

I'd like to print out the Apache MFD's, as well as F-15 and F-16.  What I'd like, is to be able to 'Swap out' the cockpit setups, while retaining the same Arduino for all 3 cocpit layouts.  Do you know if the Arduino can save and load different 'profiles', so I can swap the screens, load the correct profile, and have the correct inout recognised by DCS?

    Thanks

You might get better chance of response on the home cockpit thread.

I don’t know the answer but wouldn’t it be almost as quick just to load the different bios each time in full, wiping the last one?

Arent they dirt cheap? I bought a lot of them when I was making my F-18 and don’t recall them costing much?

Will post you a few if you are in Australia, I know not everyone has the same budget.

  12. I am new to fusion and any design program but have chosen fusion.

Does anyone have a file which can import the Thrustmaster MFD dimensions, I know Sketch Up there used to be a library of pre-designed parts you could just import, wondering if this is possible in Fusion and if there is a repository somewhere of pre-designed parts?

I can measure it myself and will have to rely on that if this function doesnt exist, could probably also cut it out of some of the already available 3D prints with the TM MFD incorporated but thought I would throw it out there on a quiet thread!

    TIA for any information.

  13. No I couldn’t, but that’s the top end, you might be able to find cheaper ones, maybe search a few pictures and see if the Huey is close enough, with the Huey DCS module there might be a DIY Huey page on this forum and the owner might help.

There are others which is just the stick that plugs into a generic base, not sure I have ever seen one for Huey if that’s the closest stick.

BTW, my son works at a Charity Home for Cerebral Palsy, I think they must have very serious condition as he has to bath, dress and feed his residents, they take them out to the beach and for ice cream and coffee depending on the weather but they certainly can’t play flight sims, if I come across anything than needs 3D printing and you have a certain joystick base I can try and help, I haven’t used my printer for anything yet as i am awaiting the space to make a fume extractor, didn’t realise how toxic resin printers are!

Did you make that large MFD controller yourself? I read win wing sell one but doesn’t seem to come up on their Australia sales.

  15. Not 3D print related but a simple way I found to make a transparent gear handle was to use a hole saw drill bit without the middle drill guide and cut several clear acrylic circles.

Glue them together, sand to diffuse then stained it with some dye in lacquer, drill to the middle to insert aluminium tube for motion and LED.

Assume you can now get transparent 3D resin so it’s not needed to be this manual anymore!
