  1. I completed this mission just as Warbird described. As soon as Abraham's chopper lifted off, I instructed my wingman to engage bandits. I had burned out my laser range finder, and couldn't hit Abraham with my cannon. The wingman sent a Vikhr into Abraham's ride. I remember that it took the game a few moments to respond to the fact that Abraham's chopper had successfully been destroyed, so be patient if you destroy the chopper, and nothing happens.
  2. I instructed my wingman to take out the final helicopter. I'm still not good at engaging air targets.
  3. Data Link is your friend I was able to learn an aweful lot, by watching my AI wingman engage targets. I used the Shkval and ABRIS to mark targets and create a target area ingress point. I, then, sent that info over to my wingman, and instructed him to get in there and kill stuff. Moral of the story... learn to receive and transmit data link info. Many of the campaign missions provide you with barely enough fuel to get through them, so be carefull when deciding to take the time to play with the data link.
  4. :helpsmilie: I've attempted this 6 or 7 times. This mission has you eliminating an insurgent convey, before it reaches a specified destination. When you reach the point of convoy engagement, you are instructed that your new primary target is Abraham's insurgent base. 253, and I, decimate the target base, and then land at the mission's destination FARP (fuel tanks running on vapors). I'm missing something that allows successful completion of the mission, and I haven't figured out how to simply fail the mission and move on through the campaign. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  5. Yeah... they're the same book. You'll see that "The Man, The Machine, The Mission" is provided through Amazon.uk ($65.51 USD), and the other is provided by Amazon.com ($15 USD).
  6. Thanks! This is what I've been looking for, but wasn't achieving. I'll make it a point to lug my sorry a** back to base, and see what happens. I'm sure, though, that I've been presented with the same mission on a few occasions.
  7. Thanks for the quick response L4Key/fox_111! After further research, the U.S. version of the Ed Macy book you've described is, "Apache: Inside the Cockpit of the World's Most Deadly Fighting Machine." http://www.amazon.com/Apache-Inside-Cockpit-Fighting-Machine/dp/0802118941/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1246915852&sr=1-2 Thanks for the help!
  8. Guys, I see two Ed Macy Apache offerings. "Apache (The Man, The Machine, The Mission)," and "Apache: Inside the Cockpit of the World's Most Deadly Fighting Machine" I assume that you're speaking of the later. I'd like to order a copy. Please advise, if I'm ordering the wrong book. Thanks!
  9. Everything is hard, before it is easy. Looking back, I feel that I've come a long way in learning the Ka-50 and its systems, that at one time seemed impossible. I'm only frustrated by the multiple mission play throughs that I must endure, trying to find the right combination of tactics, and timing to successfully complete the mission objectives. In one mission, I found that I had wasted a bunch of Vikhrs on a convoy of vehicles that were traveling on a recessed roadway. Even though I had worked hard to place myself (IMO) in a great striking position, the effort was wasted by sending Vikhrs into the road's embankment. So, lesson learned, start over, next mouse trap, repeat mission, etc.
  10. Well, I've had all kinds of issues. I'm getting all kinds of flight time, but as soon as I hit the target area ingress point, things usually get whacky. Sometimes it's my TrackIr 5, which will bug out and cause my view to spin freakishly around the cockpit. Other times, the game will just stop and hang, causing me to Alt-Tab out and kill it. I'm still struggling to get through the Deployment campaign, which includes a few missions with travel to target times that are no less than 30 minutes. The problems always occurr when I hit a mission trigger which includes voice instructions from the command unit. If I didn't dread having to fly the first half of a particular mission for the 4th time, then I'd probably spend a lot more time with this sim.
  11. If you're not already doing so, use DcsMax to set processor affinity for DCS:BS. Black Shark wasn't written to take advantage of multicore processors. I'm running an Intel i7, quad core processor, and forcing multiple cores to give DCS:BS priority over other tasks has greatly increased mission load times and frame rates. I have tools to monitor the stress applied to my video cards, and DCS:BS doesn't tax them at all. Here's a link to the DcsMax thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=40037
  12. Thanks for the info, ericinexile, I would have missed the improved campaign.
  13. I've been forced to restart my campaign, due to campaign failure, about 3 times, and I'm only into the 3rd mission. I failed the first campaign by taking a SAM to the belly. The second campaign was lost when my wingman hit me and took me out. The third campaign was lost, when my TrackIr freaked out, and I couldn't continue the mission. I hit the ESC key, then hit QUIT, and was informed that I had failed the campaign. I'm pretty sick of flying the first few missions. If I were to just pick a particular mission, through the Black Shark menu screen, would the game select a following mission based on my performance? Thanks!
  14. I'm running Vista x64 with a TrackIr 5 and just choose to start the TrackIr software outside of DcsMax 1.6.1. I was having some TrackIr issues, when giving DCS:BS affinity to all of my hyperthreaded cores (Intel i7 920). I, now, leave one true core (2 hyperthreaded) out of the affinity setting to handle all of the Vista bloat. Everything works great. I can't believe the difference in mission load times, when setting processor affinity with DcsMax. C. Patrick
