  1. The VRAM usage is dependent of terrain texture and visib range. With the 3080ti, high terrain texture and medium visib range is OK but increasing visib range to high or more pushes the VRAM usage near 11Go
  2. I have now the quest 3 but it does not change so much the settings. After more hours of flight and deep testing with the openXR fps and GPU headroom, I noticed that the cost of DLAA is in fact huge (about 15-20% headroom). The same as MSAAx4 because with DLAA you have to increase the resolution to reduce the blurryness. So MSAA = more clarity but more shimmering DLAA = less shimmering but less clarity even with high pixel density I also think that it is finally not a so good idea to use shadows with QFV because it renders two view and shadows hit hardly the CPU. I have finally decided to keep it simple and I am happy with my choice because the FPS is near always 72Hz now : - no anti-aliasing at all - no QVF - openXR Toolkit to reduce the color saturation from 50 to 30 to have more realistic colors - pushing the quest 3 at its max render resolution in the occulus app (x1.3) (it is not so bad as antialising) - link sharpening = quality (less clarity but I like it better because smooth effect and less shimmering) With the 3080ti, I think I can only focus on the FPS. With a 4090, I could include settings that reduce shimerring and improve graphics in general. It is for sure a less beautiful view but in the P51 during a dogfight the most important thing by far is the FPS and then kill the enemy
  3. I have a quest 2 with a 3080ti. You have a 3080, so I assume that our constraints and performances are quite the same. There are no magical best settings. It depends about our expectation, criteria priorities and stuff constraints. For me, by order of importance : FPS > Shimmering > Clarity > Visual sugar features => my dream, no ASW and 72Hz or more everytime => ASW is okayish with modern planes (f18/f16/f15 etc…). ASW impossible with warbirds. Canon dogfight is not compatible with ASW ghosting effect… With the 3080ti, I can’t solve this requirements. With DLSS, I can’t solve it anyway, so DLSS is not a solution for me. The decrease in quality gives not enough performance, si the cost in quality makes no sense. The sweet spot for me, because FPS and shimerring are my top criteria by order of importance is : 1. I reduce the resolution in the oculus app from x1.5 to x1.2 2. I installed mbuchia quad foveated rendering that is now usable for me with DLAA because the peripheral view doesn’t shimmer with DLAA (it was a mess with DCS 2.8) 3. With the performance gain, I have enabled terrain shadows and grass (note that I have disabled link sharpening in Oculus Debug tool and use sharpening at 0.7 in DCS instead. I have the feeling that link sharpening creates some stutters) Personnaly, I am really really happy with my quest 2 and DCS 2.9. DLAA is a game changer for me. Hope it can give you other perspectives but VR and expectations are very subjectives
  4. DLAA has changed everything for me. Now I can use mbucchia quad views foveated because the peripheral view doesn't shimmer with DLAA. I have been able to reduce the resolution in the oculus app from x1.5 to x1.2 and add terrain shadows and grass. Really happy with 2.9. Good job ED and thank you mbucchia for your work.
  5. In the ED video about DCS voice chat 2.9 tutorial video, we can see 2 new settings : Anti-Aliasing = DLAA Upscaling = DLSS And a third one that could be interesting : LOD Switch factor (cursor)
  6. Hi, Having an i7 12000k, I have also the issue and when it occurs, the CPU 8 is 100%. Disabling the Hyper Threading improved the situation but it was not a bulletproof fix because sometimes the issue occurs. It is maybe to early to confirm but here is what I did : - Upgraded Motherboard firmware (USB gen2x2) (TUF z690 gaming wifi d4) - Upgraded BIOS to last version (2802 for my MB) Unfortunately, upgrading the BIOS broke the compatibility with my DDR4 3600 (working perfectly fine before...) Having tried everthing, the system is unstable at 3600MHz but the AI overclocking of the TUF motherboard decided that it could overclock the CPU and my DDR to 3000 instead of 3600 (but native 2400). Note that the latency is better at 3000 than it would be at 3600 Long story short, since this changes, no issue anymore with Hyper Threading enabled. To early to really confirms but it cleary improved the situation with HT enable. Guys, try to disable your XMP profile and please report if it helps
  7. @friese01 I have also the new realsimulator f16 stick and base. So for modern jet, I think it is the good choice. But for warbirds and helo, I don’t know. Virpil warBRD base is great but can’t use extensions with it. Never tried VKB stick and base but I like my VKB pedals. I would be curious to try and also the FFB stick from Brunner. Virpil remains a good choice overall. Personally, I would wait two more product iterations before jumping to wing wing that looks really promising @dburne You are right. I will wait the F15 to decide (but I bought the MONSTERTECH chair to have a center joystick with extension. So my big deception :)))
  8. Same feeling, big deception. The feeling is not good and strange at the center. With the 20cm extension and TM F18 stick, the aviacam with no center can not be used even with the strongest spring. Except the aviacam hard and soft center with the strongest spring, every other combination is crap and unusable. Clutches are toys and feeling is bad. It just allow to reduce a little bit the reverse force. Not bad but a toy with lot of marketing and not what people expect. The fact is that I am now not happy with Virpil and the CM3 base confirms what I thought. The warbird base is very nice but all other Virpil stuff I own have quality and design flaws (CM3 base, Throttle v2, warbird stick) Quality is not top notch and from my point of view, Virpil is overrated (cheap buttons, hat that break or with strange behaviour, axis value that oscillate around a center value, mechanical plays here and there…) My advice is to skip the CM3 base and avoid most of the Youtuber that don’t tell the true story… even well know in the communauty. Pretty sure it will finish in a closet and probably my last virpil buy.
  9. Love this format, especially in VR. In game training must be all about operation; quick and focussed. If knowledge and theory is mandatory, it should be done before with dedicated documentation (or page references from the manual) Personnaly, I hate training mission where there are some explanation about the history of the plane, or stuff not directly related to the lesson. For sure, it is interesting but not the goal at this time. Very hyped with the F15, the Razbam work and Baltic Dragon’s new approach. (as a prior developer, maintaining campaigns and mission must be a huge pain. They are very dedicated and passionate for sure)
  10. Just received but unfortunately not the plate to fix it... (MK2 et F16 V2 stick with haptic feedback) Coming from Virpil BRD + F18 TM Stick, the quality definitely seems a step up; especially the buttons Hope to be able to test it soon... I am casual (with luxury taste) but if I can answer your questions I'll try (no comparison possible with previous version)
  11. Thank you for all the info. Is there some default settings suggested by RS to mimic the true F16 stick ? For me, having this starting point would be one of the great value compared to my Virpil warbird base (without extension) that is not realistic at all even if the quality and feeling is great with the TM F18 stick.
  12. Thank you for the info. The upgrade is worth the wait.
  13. Probably my christmas gift. Currently waiting more info about this ultra upgrade
  14. The price is ok for me. And I totally agree with Rudel’s words. I think this map is a very special product. It is all about experience : big area, fuel management, large war theatre, high altitude immersion because the use of satellite images. This last point is a strong design choice because it means that it will be near impossible to provide a nice low altitude experience, at least at the level most people expect and everywhere on this huge map. So my disappointment is more about the fact that I tend to think that Razbam don’t totally embrace their strong design choices and try to provide mid experience to everyone : 1. The first priority should be to provide high res satellite images and give amazing mid/high altitude experience, to support all the strategic ideas behind the map. 250/500GB download and the needed SSD will not be an issue for people wanting this map for all the reasons stated before 2. Put some efforts on some specific area. Beautiful area and/or area where it makes sense for helo and warbirds to fly With the Afghanistan map coming (if I understood well the spoiler), I tend to thing that some focus will be somewhere else soon and it could be the main theatre for helo And please, add at least some « free flight » mission for each plane at the rights spot from the beginning. It would have take 1 hour of your time, to offer a first nice experience and provide knowledge about the map and the most beautiful area. Yes it is early access and I am happy to buy all modules in early access. But don’t skip the first experience (same for ED) I am happy to discover this map and feel worry about the fuel remaining in the tank. Good work Razbam and please continue to innovate as you always do !!
  15. Given the tons of money Apple wins from games on iOS, they have probably some plan for Mac and why not an ARM console (Apple TV on steroid ?). But games must be compiled for ARM and use Metal as its low level API (or a framework/engine using Metal under the hood) AFAIK. But they will probably not target the same gamer population, at least at the beginning IMO
  16. I don’t like Facebook and before buying the Q2, I asked me the question. The fact that Google knows everything I am looking for, Netflix what I am watching, some stores what I am buying etc… Not sure, that I am really concerned with Facebook knowing I am playing DCS… not great but I am not sure that Steam is really better in this regard. Having some diploma in data science et machine learning, for me, the true issue with data isn’t really where media push everybody to look. It is not great for sure but it sounds for me impossible to be consistent today by boycoting the Q2 for this reason (data collect and selling is everywhere) Would be better without the Facebook account for sure…
  17. Upgraded from Rift S to Quest 2 and from a 1080ti to a 3080ti and it is worth it. The quest 2 isn’t confortable but buying VR Cover solved this issue. Clarity is better and I don’t really need more clarity now and trade more FPS for it. The quest 2 is really easy to setup and it’s a flexible headset. I play with the câble. The sharpening new feature is really great and worth the shimerring increase (and I hate shimerring) from my point of view. Waiting the 28th sounds a good idea. Personally, I really need to play without AWS and reprojection, so I makes my choice by trying to identify the headset that would not challenge my GPU. I need now to upgrade my CPU but I am waiting the 12th gen and first feedback. Update: my colleague who bought my rift S told me that he skipped the facebook account by creating a developer account. I don’t try it myself…

I think it will be my favorite plane to fly over the Falkland
  19. Same with rift S. Feels also the size of the seat is too small. Must probably increase the world dimension for this plane (63.5mm setting by default for me)
  20. For me, with Rift S, using AWS (so interpolation at 40Hz) is perfectly smooth for sure but inaceptable to chase WWII planes (in MP servers) that appears as ghost because AWS. So, I prefer low graphical settings and 80Hz, no ghost and better immersion. In F-18, AWS with nice graphical settings and stable 40Hz is perfectly smooth. So at the end, the truth for one will never be your truth. The only fact is that you will fight to find your acceptable settings if any given your HMD and setup and with DCS and HMD evolving it becomes more and more challenging
  21. I have the same feeling and I am waiting to upgrade my stuff because I am not sure that VR will stay viable. Concerning VR there are really 3 scenarii as soon you have good enough and coherent setup: - modern jet : easy to have stable 40/45 FPS, acceptable visual sugar even with High-end HMD - WWII, jets as F86 : 80Hz/90Hz native frequency becomes mandatory. HMD with ability to play at different native frequencies is really the feature to focus on (i.e. 60Hz). 4K pixels per eyes becomes near impossible to handle at these frequencies. For sure, you have to put your graphical settings very low. I tend to think that it make no sense to have a more recent HMD than the Rift S if it is your DCS use case because it is probably the only HMD that is possible to handle at its full potential with 3090 and 11900k - Helo : It is even worse than for the WWII because in this situation, the Rift S picture is so bad that it becomes difficult to be acceptable (from my point of view) So, for sure, VR needs more love from ED but it is even more true that the HMD evolves in a direction (more pixels, higher native frequencies) that becomes incompatible with DCS, and so do the players expectations. My advice is to always ask yourself your DCS use case. Most users happy with their High-End HMD flies probably modern jets and the trade-off between lower graphical settings and better experience because VR is at their advantage. They even profit good graphical settings because they can play with AWS/reprojection or other frame interpolation I am not aware off. In other scenarii, the trade-off tends to become a paradox. Will it be possible to continue to play in VR at native frequencies without ghost planes in gun dogfight ? Not so sure, keep your Rift S for the time being and look for new HMDs with support for several native frequencies.
  22. VR would merit more attention from ED concerning graphical settings with better fine tuning (i.e only cockpit shadows, all other shadows disabled, better granularity between cockpit texture details because in VR only the highest one is acceptable, etc.) I love ED as much as I love Apple but they have the same default : it takes 20 iterations to deliver what people asked for after the first 3 iterations, with good reasons and explanation. Anyway, I will continue to buy modules and wait that things improve, buy asap an high-end new computer but keep the Rift S to play at 80Hz with better settings than Now (new HMD resolution are just insane for a games like DCS) But the fact is that I could not play DCS in 2D anymore. For people new to VR, it’s important to understand that VR is a big trade of : much much better experience (you need Hotas with lots of buttons) but much much worse graphical settings, and yes reprojection, AWS can be acceptable if you fly F18/F16/A10 etc but not if you fly warbirds chasing other plane in near dogfight (seing ghost planes because AWS is just weird and immersion breaking)
  23. I totally agree. I tend to play with low settings with my Rift S to play at 80 Hz most of the time (so PD 1, no MSAA, no shadows, only textures at high and Anisotropic x16) But even with these settings, the FPS is just above 40 in the free F16/F18 free flight mission. Need to wait to really enjoy this beautiful and free map So as a last word, Thank you ED for your work and hope to have some fix in a near futur
  24. For sure... And in dark cockpits, cockpit shadows reduce shimmering.
  25. I can confirm the same issue with the Rift S at 1.2 supersampling. It is a general issue and not a case by case issue... I am just starting to learn the Harrier, so not a big deal but hope the issue will be fixed asap
