Thanks! Like I said I wasn't trying to be short. It was 5 AM getting ready to go to work and I was trying to help someone. Like @Hiob alluded to, it's not always just one thing. A quick Google can at least get someone started.

More tongue in cheek humor than derogatory. Although I poke fun, at least you tried to help.  Sometimes ya just gotta find a little humor!!

hello. there are so many posts and bits of info using a quick google search. not trying to be short. just that stuttering can be lots of different reasons. you should review all the solutions.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=dcs+stuttering

And there you have it, post of the year. All the solutions to stuttering have just been a google away the whole time!

    Who’d a thunk??

Is this a good time to remind people it’s called “Open BETA” for a reason?

Ya know, I’m so tired of that condescending  response! I’m betting 90% of the people fly OB, at least 90%of the servers with any participation require OB, and many, if not most of the “common “ or repetitive complaints make it through to the apparently in your eyes anyway, much better final release version. Who are you kidding?

Yes, it’s called Open beta version , we get it. But if that’s what’s being pushed if anyone wants to actually participate with other humans, maybe they should either limit distribution (omg, I said it) so its not the prevalent version for MP or perhaps hold it in development until it actually works?  Of course a third option would be add a “not suitable for VR or low end systems “ disclosure before purchase (oh and perhaps a refund every time they “improve performance to the point another block of customers can’t use it) and a fairly significant piece of complaints would disappear because the VR crowd would go play something else….

  4. There are dude’s who spend hours, literally hours sitting behind the yolk of a FedEx simulated 7?7. Playing airplane pilot. You would be surprised at how little folks have to do sometimes. I had an associate actually take a vacation day because he “had to cover” for another “pilot”.
To each their own I guess but would hope the developers had better priorities.

A guy on Varjo discord said he hits 80 fps at times from typical 40s, so that’s a bit encouraging considering the rendering res is quite high on the Aero even on the default setting but I won’t know for sure until I get to mess around with it myself.  I don’t really need 90 fps in DCS (would be nice to see), just want a rock solid 45 in all flying scenarios with locked frame…although having 100 fps in No Mans Sky or 200 in Elite Dangerous is also nice.

They have been pumping high fps/resolutions on varjo since it was released. Don’t believe it…

  6. When I used to fly, the index had an almost invisible transition out of the sweet spot (aka it was essentially all clear). Did not get that “scuba mask” effect either with the FOV. My biggest issue was getting enough resolution to actually dog fight whilst not getting into slide shows and hiccups.
Although there are bigger systems now, mine is no slouch.
Sitting it out until the program becomes more optimized (whatever that eventually may mean) then swap in the newest graphics card assuming it works with everything else I have.
won’t be flying or buying until then.
    VR is really cool though!!!

  7. For even more realism, oh and to prevent the “fly, shoot, die, respawn loop”, they should make it an option that if you die, your permanently banned from a server. Maybe even lock you permanently out of DCS.
    Now that’s realism!

No I just happen to agree with the OP

    +1 from me…

No, the OP wants it as an option for the mission developer or server admin. You on the other hand want it for everyone because you feel like it will keep out the poor riffraff style of play across the board that you disagree with.
    Big difference

Which word in "skill-less busy-work" didn't you understand?

Nobody doubts that. It's just that not everyone enjoys doing it as much as you seemingly do.

Your missing the point cfrag. He feels like it’s a good idea and he has a right to tell others how to play.
In order to guarantee his freedom, others need to change their way’s, thats what freedom is all about. Asking him to create his own server with the hundreds of others screaming for auto start banning, or joining one that exists is a violation of those freedoms.
I think if the option can be created, perfect, can’t hurt.  But asking him to join one of those servers crosses the line….

First of all, the "hand holding" and accommodating of newbies and shallow gamers is not there because ED wants to be "nice" and make everyone feel better. They may want that. But I believe it's there because it gets them more customers and more $. It's their business.

Secondly, I would welcome the ability to disable autostart on the server.  Having to go through the process of startup makes people fly differently. It's just like limiting resources at a base. It encourages self-preservation rather than the kamikaze behavior that is all too common on any public server.  It's not about ego or "coolness". It actually affects how the mission progresses.

As a pilot, I find it laughable that people cannot be bothered to do a short startup procedure. These people probably wouldn't be too happy in real-world flying.

“As a pilot”…. I find it laughable that you get bent over a game.  Start a group and fly your way. Let others do the same.
I fly because I enjoy it and NEVER have started a statement with “as a pilot “. Equally as “needy”.
That said, anyone that has the gumption to build a server or mission should have the option to create as real or fictitious a scenario as THEY want.  This I agree…

I think everybody can understand and agree that things here work differently, but sometimes it gets to a point where things are ultimately questionable and, quite frankly, sometimes borderline distasteful.

Development on Vulkan engine for performance improvements was (AFAIK) announced nearly five years ago (DCS World Newsletter in 29 December 2017).

    Five years.
During this time period, performance hasn't improved, it actually become even worse.

Noone asked for 2.7 higher performance impact, when 2.5 was already severe enough on hardware.
For those unwilling to accept it, there used to be 1.58 and 2.56 (legacy) versions available. They're gone. But even if available... great, if using that, then I'm blocked from the updates for the modules that I've paid for, and noone to play online...
And I don't care about the few people defending ED with "I play fine on 2.7 with six plus year old hardware", because that's just having far lower standards and accepting mediocre performance.
Paying customers, who have thrown quite significant ammounts into this flight/combat simulation, are forced to throw even bigger ammounts into hardware just to keep up with increasing resource demands, to get updates on purchased modules and play with others online. It's just not right.

Meanwhile, five years on, little to absolutely no news on the Vulkan subject, while we keep having announcements upon announcements on new modules... which may (or not) have even bigger impact on performance than those that we currently have (did anyone even stop to think about this possibility?).

I think my point here is, the lack of perspective and the desproportion on how different areas seem to be focused on (IMO).
Talking to people online, reading this and other forums, what I get is that there seems to be far more interest in "a better DCS" rather than in "more content in DCS".

Performance improvements on DCS should be the #1 priority, and sharing info on Vulkan development - no matter how small those news would be - would go a long way, and maybe should be considered as important as the constant "WIP" screens on new fancy announced modules (taking years to see a release) that are pumped weekly.

You do of course realize there is another thread blowing up because the developers are announcing future projects “too soon”!????

Honestly its just complaining to complain…..

Agreed. TBH, I feel that people who use the "Arcade vs. Sim" or "cheat because unrealistic" argument are often expressing their (somewhat pathetic) need to validate their bruised ego with an imagined feat of gaming "prowess". Kind of sad, really.

    This!
There is a big difference between “fun” and “cool”.
This certainly can be fun, but if you think it makes you “cool” you really need to rethink things….

    Hey all,

I'm in need of a lift - or at least a little nudge as I have found myself losing my enthusiasm over VR the last few weeks.

It was only this spring that i finally broke down and built a new PC and picked up a Reverb G2 v2.  I have increasingly been finding myself disenchanted with VR and its implementation.

I'm currently sitting on a 5800x, 64 GB Ram, 6900XT (that i paid far toomuch for just prior to the price crash) and my G2.  I have installed OpenXR and the Toolkit and even read, viewed and researched the multitude of resources and suggestions around AMD and OXR/WMR

I just feel like I am spending faaar too much time fiddling around trying to get things smooth, clear and in my sweetspot.  Its more time fiddling than just enjoying the game.  I'm locked at 45 fps and still drop below that sometimes and feel like the learning curve is still so high that I'll never get optimized.

Then i look at the poor resolution in my G2 (compared to 4k on 2D and I just think... man with my rig I should just buy a 38" 4K monitor and go back to TrackIR.  I'm sure i could drive some pretty nice visuals in 2D.

Maybe VR isnt for me... how did the rest of you get over this funk?

    Thanks for any suggestions....

How did I get over the funk?  Gave up. Haven’t even signed in in months. Continue to monitor this site in hopes of an announcement of big improvements

    Your mileage may vary
