Extreme flight enthusiast's homemade cockpit http://video.foxnews.com/v/1411762518001/extreme-flight-enthusiasts-homemade-cockpit?intcmp=features

F16 is such a versatile, perfect, agile, nimble and beautiful airframe, i wouldn't call one airplane a bad point. So BMS has no weak points whatsoever, especially for being a free product, mod of a 13 yo game. And since i'm as old as top gun, here's something for DCS
-
nothing beats the assassination drone pit:
-
I don't get it, they make Rafale almost as preety as an F16, but then put a FIXED refueling probe on it. Lorena bobbitt, where are you now?
-
You can see how little throw the sidestick has.

I wish for more immersive game environment. Because just adding planes in the same dull atmosphere won't cut it anymore. career mode: Pre-set missions, starting with training campaign, then moving on to 2-3 deployments (campaigns) with selectable difficulty. Fly many missions in one plane. Even if they're not dynamic, they can still be fun and intense. airbase menu instead of text selection. Pilots room, mission command, hangar, airfield,... DCS hangar mode. Like autovista in forza 4, but for planes. Also used for repairing, arming and inspection. walk around your plane, giving it some pre-flight checks, to keep it in better shape. Briefing with detailed map, mission description, recon, data and some audio clip, briefing us about the upcoming mission. climb-in sequence. climb from hangar into the cockpit and start her up for the mission. Same with climb-out after shutdown. Post-briefing is next. If deployed on the carrier (DCS f-18, for example), do the same, but in an AC carrier environment. So basically, trying to capture the details outside the cockpit, the flow that happen before and after the mission, to get the feel of being a pilot instead of some dull text.

What do you think about P-51D and Flying Legends?
PlainSight replied to csper's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Same here, i hope combat-helo gets out soon. -
How is the slider moving in the axis assign page? Because reverse throttle doesn't any make sense, you just have to idle, engage the thrust reversers and apply forward thrust again.
-
Sounds like the throttle is assigned like an axis, not as a slider. Big difference.

Do a shooting range mission, that one's a cold start

TGP going haywire after attack-run turn
PlainSight replied to PlainSight's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah, i guess the markpoints are the best solution. Mark the target and then slave TGP to the markpoint. -
Where is the Thrustmaster Hotas Twisty?
PlainSight replied to Shootist's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There's a "TM t.flight hotas x" model which is even better than a twisty, It has two rockers on throttle unit, which are used for rudder. http://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-T-Flight-Hotas-Flight-Playstation-3/dp/B001CXYMFS -
Yeah, i hate how they sound worried and underestimate people "we want every player to be able to play this". God forbid people should learn a bit how to handle certain things. I guess their main market are still console children 10-15. Best example was Shift 2. SMS first made it a sim, but EA got scared that it's too hard for kids to manage, so they had to dumb down the handling  Lucky for us there are still devs out there who create the real thing

I've noticed that sometimes TGP goes crazy when I turn sharply from recon to attack run position. I fly perpendicular to the target, but when i turn/roll 90 degree towards it, 20-30 degrees down i loose my SPI, because tgp rolls out of limits. It's like it can't follow the planes motion in the turn phase. It's frustrating, because i have to abort my gun run AND find the target again. See this clip at exactly 18:55 min in, to see the maneuver. Am i making too agressive turns or what? Thanks
-
It works in FC2, where there's separate section for each airplane. FC3 should provide the option to import A10C and/or ka50, so we'd have all planes in one install.

The complexity of computer systems in the a-10
PlainSight replied to foxfour's topic in Military and Aviation
I'd trust the military design. I'm sure these interfaces are done in cooperation with combat proven test pilots who know what's needed and where to put it. There things are tested "to the death", i confident they make everything as intuitive as possible. And there IS a progress, some say that operating an apache is like playing a video game, not to mention the F35 with its touchscreens. There's definitively progress where possible. -
"hard-core gamers often soup up systems by adding motherboards, boosting RAM and optimizing graphics." :megalol:
-
Just a hand size test. I have to raise my palm a bit to reach and firmly push the red button, i can't keep it on the rest. FA18-style stick is better, IMO.
-
The steel gets cold and the grip is quite large, i can't really push the red, pinky and index finger buttons at the same time. So i got myself a pair of running gloves with a bit of grippy silicon on the fingertips :)
-
Much better MFDs position, that's what i was talking about.

fly it like you stole it - disable AP
PlainSight replied to PlainSight's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I wouldn't say it's unstable, it's just much more responsive. For stable hover and attack, it's better to leave AP on to focus on shkval, but for evasion, or just pure fun, i prefer no AP. It's like turning traction and stability control off in a ferrari. But it is hard to stabilize it after coming to a 180degree turn/stop from a 200 kph. And keep it stable while looking at shkval and locking up targets. I'd need a gunner at that point... -
After watching this acrobatic vid, i've decided to break the BS dogma of never flying without engaged AP channels. Result? Awesome! I finally have a feeling i could really kick some arse in this thing. Stops, U turns, J turns, immelmann turn with a stop on top (vertical J turn), funnel, sideways, backward. Not a problem. With some practice. Trim (i think) was always in the way of such moves, i could never do them because something kicked in and the helicopter just drifted into it's original position. It (ofcourse) takes some time getting used to the feel, but it's SOO worth it, once you tame it. It becomes very responsive and it goes where you want it. And that's what i need.

That's how it should be done in the first place. Have a base, then just buy addon planes and maps, like in FSX, ROF, or any other game, for that matter. FSX works in harmony with dozens of addons, why can't dcs?
-
Such "EECH approach" would be the best, at least with WW2 planes, where there's no avionics to model/learn/handle. Cos it doesn't feel fair to pay the same for the useless old bucket as for a complex modern plane.

They certainly picked the most american/patriotic/cheesy plane around. I can already see countless stars-and-stripes skins and patriotic movies. Americans will love it.
