  1. Vipers Win 7 problem I have begun to notice after having install many programs some legacy 32bit & some 64bit compatible. That Win 7 is more the issue here than anything else. It seems to me that Win 7 might have a problem with detecting true 64bit apps for some reason. I have gotten the compatibillty screen more than once and feel it is more a Windows OS problem. It seems to wants to install alot of programs that don't register true 64bit apps or something! in the compatibility program folder (X86), then you have an access problem with some files placed in different compatibiliity file structure. This seems to be my problem with access to some files. I am looking into it more with win 7 64bit (build 7100) though, not DCS or any other app. any thoughts or experiences on this would be good, for I think others are running into this issue as well.
  2. You might consider this! I am running DCS Blackshark on win7 64bit the install placed it in Programfiles(x86) in my case. But now that I am going to be using Modman 7.1 to mess around with my own custom skins. It might have been better to have it install in a different dir on the c:drive If you might plan to do your own skins in the future check in the skins forum area where the best place is right away. I might have to do a reinstall now which is a pain in the butt! I got warnings about the proper dir. when intalling modman. the member Skypat is a great help on the custom skin setup.
  3. I juat can't say enough myself! Second post for me here! Awesome Work! I have just been flying around harrassing trains, Trucks , anything I can find moving in the Relocation mission just to be able to fly this monter. What a difference a patch makes hey! Dang great job to the ED Team!
  4. I just have to say Kudo's to the ED Team! I am not sure of all the other area's of the Sim, But I know this! After downloading and installing the new patch! which was Flawless on my system, I even gained some framerates also there! Kudo's I run Win 7 64Bit ultamte Build 7100 I don't know all the details of what was changed, I did not go through the whole list but! I now have a Heli that flies just like the real ones. It's all good now! Maybe a little more weathervaning effects on the Airfoil surfaces at higher speeds but it's a great thing to say! I now believe you have surpassed Janes Longbow in the FD of this sim! And that's saying alot for me. It's an awesome thing. It was a pleasure to fly this thing today! I like the new mission "relocation" so I could do just that. Kudo's! Kudo's! Kudo's! P.S. I like the little noice the trim makes when it's activated. nice touch.
  5. It's clear I think NP is doing there best to shut out other head tracking options with encrypted files and there propriatary tracking system. What I do not like no matter how much better it is! Is that I would have to by there system to make it work. That's a monopoly. Although I will probably buy there TrackIr 4 pro soon. Because I just don't have the time to mess with building free track or another Open Source system. But one still should have the option, and not be shut out by insider deals. I think everyone is tired of that kind of marketing tactics at least in the Good old USA.
  6. Oh I'm not using the keyboard keys....lol I fly with an X52 flight system. no rudder pedals or FF which Sucks! for sure! but I am waiting for the Logitech release of there new setup. decided to wait a bit on the whole thing of seperate rudders and a force feedback stick. Unless one of you can give a real good setup recomendation that I might try. It will all cost a bunch anyway. never realized that there are not alot of good FF Joysticks. CH is good I here. I just know that when I hit the arrow keys it moves my trim point as if I was doing it with the trim system. If I have my control inputs showing. in cockpit view. I don't really have to hit the trim key. just hit the arrow keys till it gets to where I want it to be. Kind of cool really. weird maybe, Do not know if it's right, but it works.
  7. thank you AlphaOneSix I was thinking there for a while that I was being handed a Load! I know I might have to pull it out of it's forward momentum to get back to the speed I trimmed for at hover. but it better come back to the trim point I set. If not, then somthing did move. and that would have to be hydraulic set points on the rams and or the linkage to the swashplates. Otherwise you would constantly be chasing the ball. Or the bubble as I know that term is used as well for vertical takeoff aircraft. such as akin to all Helicpoters and the famous French harrier, and the Aspry....etc. my problem is that I don't have a force feedback Joystick as of yet. And I might be getting some weird feedback from my keyboard. while in flight my arrow keys act as sort of a hyper trim setting. not really sure about that one. who knows what kind of stray signals that's sending to the control setup.
  8. ok then Now we are getting somewhere. So your saying that if I trim at take off, to get a good stable hover. then push my cyclic forward a bit and go down the runway a few yards. then let my cyclic center again! I will not come back to a hover? if that's the case. what moved? something had to change. my trim center point or something. your saying that the swashplate and linkage goes to some other centerpoint. if so why? I do not know of any other helicopter swashplate or cylic system that does that. And if the Ka-50 does. why?
  9. my ideas on the trim system. Although I have now achieved a good level of skill on trimming the aircraft. I mapped it to my throttle control just like the real bird. I for one as in the video on trim (link in above thread) try to trim only once at takeoff to get a good hover control. Now for my question! Why other than the obvious reasons that I will list below should one have to trim out of that now new centered position? 1. Wind conditions possibly 2. Weight distribution such as fuel, payload changes etc. 3. Not wanting to hold the stick in a foward flight postion as not to get tired. or do other tasks. Or I'm just in a Lazy mood!...LOL Now with that said. and my understanding that this is a rather heavy bird. Why should it not come back to some degree of level flight due to gravity, to the point where I have trimmed it? Or is this whole sytem some sort of floating mechanism? What I find happening after some heavy combat flying, is that the heli is in every position but centered where I put it to start with. And I seem to always have to be trimming this thing. Now maybe it's My controls and it might be. because that seems to be the first thing that happens in this forum But! Now let me say agian what I have been told so many times. This is a very Heavy bird, 8+ Metric Tons. I would think not that influenced by minor weight changes. (to a limit of course) I seem to get a heli that is flying sideways hanging to the left or right. Or with alot of sideslip (yaw angles), and other undesireable attributes. Whats moving? I get the feeling that The whole linkage or cyclic swashplate system is changing. If one trims into a good hover state. stick centered. should it not come back to a relative point of that initial trim point? I find in some cases I have to throw some really wild opposite control inputs into this thing to get it to turn and manuever where I want it to go. It never really centers again. Untill I let it all settle down with some long level flight. And then somehow by the time I get back to the base. I wind up trimming right back to that original point! Now I know it's all my fault or will be, but has anyone else noticed this type of apparent movement in the whole Cyclic control system?
  10. I agree! this needs to be in it's own manual for DCS I think the pdf manual is awesome and have printed it all out into a binder now! Great job Skypat. I just have one question about how much can one add too or change the respective layers in the PSD files. how much if at all will this effect the outcome of such things as damage visuals and the like. I would think that layers can be added but I thought I would ask the expert. That's the only thing in your PDF that you did not touch on much was how much one can change the overall layers or add to them. I know the PSD template files are all flattened at the end anyway. but is there a size limit? Or do they effect other things at some point for damage rendering and effects? Like if someone wanted all chrome linkage or some silly thing like that!....LOL
  11. ok I'll chime in. It's a great start for a good campain scenerio. I did download it and did fly it. and even though it might need work I am no expert on that for sure. (I think I got like 8 logged hours flight time in this sim) I thought it was a good way to stretch my skills. I think we need more whole Campains like this. uncertain scenerios and missions. I for one don't always believe that in combat we always know exactly whats going on and know that War is always a surprise. you never now what your enemy will do! Secondly, I like that fact that you have to retask as it where. you have to stop and setup a new point in the abris and such to now where your going and that stretches your skills on the ability to know other factors about the aircraft not just flying and blowing things up. Great start & great job Warbird! Sorry I did not comment sooner!
  12. Awesome Can't wait to see those bad boys go to work! But I would like to chime in also and add that the concution alone should be enough to send the enemy ground troops to the hospital or at least take them off there feet.
  13. Thank you Viper. I agree on the munitions & fuel. But I'd also like to thank you on the comntroller input itself. That helps alot, It's good to know that the software does seem to react to different equipment or computer system it seems. Like others have said about FF contrlollers Vs non-FF. Thanks and I will be looking into that one right away. I might drop the fuel but you'll have to pry my munitions out of my cold dead hands!..........LOL Just kidding. Old West Saying Thanks agfain.
  14. Hey I have done some reading about the ka-50 now and I have question about controller inputs. Other than the axis tune area's. is there any other ways to setup the control ratios. Everything I have read on the specs on the heli is that it has an unlimited turn rate in hover due to it's coaxial rotor design. Insert from article here: The KA-50 features unique maneuvrability and operating characteristics due to the contra-rotating co-axial rotors. The coaxial counter-rotating rotor system negates the need for a tail rotor and its drive system. Because of this, this aircraft is unaffected by wind strength and direction, has an unlimited hovering turn rate, and gives a smaller profile and acoustic signature, while allowing a 10-15% greater power margin. The HOKUM is fully aerobatic. It can perform loops, roll, and "the funnel", where the aircraft will maintain a concentrated point of fire while flying circles of varying altitude, elevation, and airspeed around the target. This has also been my understanding of the characteristics of the coaxial rotor design. I have set my Z axis to nearly zero and I don't get a real snappy turn rate. I have made a trk to show the turnrate I was able to achieve. TurnRate1.trk
  15. Thanks But I'm not having any problems. just was getting a little confused with on or off I guess of the flight Director switch. And wether or not any other systems had control. All is good here. Flying great and not crashing at all. I just like to control the heli as much as possible is all. I believe the new manual will have some valueable info on all the systems also. Already started printing it out!
  16. I need to ask this. If someone really wants to fly the Ka-50 with as much auto anything turned off as they can? what would be the check list? excluding the dampers of course (not good handling with those off)....LOL I have tried to look up in the manual how all the different systems go together but still get something messing with my heading yaw control when not wanted. I'm perplexed a bit here.
  17. Great Job I am getting about the same frame rates with Win7 64bit ultimate build 7100 Although I had no problems loading the 186.18 Version nvidia drivers for my BFG 9800 GT OC 1Gig card. I get upwards of 40 fps chase view and around 30-38 cockpit view. very smooth. Good thread for sure.
  18. hey! I agree. the I7 920 is plenty I feel, when overclocked to maybe 3 it will perform just fine. I do alot of 3d motion graphics so that's why I need the video and ram power. I am still not sure to go with EVGA or BFG? EVGA has really nice overclocking software for there video cards. I always felt that's where the work is being done anyway. with the new core I7 memory control arcitecture I don't think processor speed can be thought of in the same way as the old frontside bus anyway. Now we have G/T's of transfer speed. I remember seeing the limited release of the Dell Rampage a few years ago when nvidia built what I believe was the prototypes for these new video cards with dual processors custom built for that computer. That monster had some outragous fill rates running a 30" monitor! among everything else. I think it went for about $10,000 with the custom paint job......LOL
  19. Nevermind! Dang! Here We go again, but it is awesome so I guess it will be worth it. Great New manual, All sorts of great new info. Kudos.
  20. Hey all does anyone know as of yet, if any of the existing chapters where changed from the non-extended manual. I would hate to have to print out a whole new manual! Wow. That took alot of work! I hope by extended they mean they just added to the old one!.....LOL
  21. It's all good here. Like they say: Slow is Smooth!, Smooth is Fast! Small moves are the safest.
  22. excellent thread and artical on the AutoPilot and FD systems of the Ka-50 I not only feel that it should be made sticky or regular main thread topic. I feel it should be revised if needed and be part of the DCS Manual. I feel that everyone would better understand the flight systems of this heli if they did! Avoid alot of traffic on this forum for sure. Awesome!
  23. fat girls make the world go round right! I'll try to put up a small trk of some combat situation so I can get other oppions on My yaw! need a frame of reference here. maybe I got something setup wrong, not sure!
  24. Core I7 is a whole new ball game. if you look at the through put specs and triple channel ram it's hands down core I7 We're talking gigatera's here, with no more frontside bus! in my opinion it's not even a choice. I drewl for this system! with dual nvidia 295's in SLI! it's a monster This is my dream system Asus Rampage II extreme Core I7 any 24 gigs triple channel ram 2 x BFG 295 GTX video cards in SLI Like I can afford any of this but I am going to get it!..lol
