Personal Information

  • Flight Simulators
My introduction to flight sims was Microsoft's Flight Simulator on an Apple MacIntosh (512K) back in 1985. I then transitioned to Falcon and played this sim the most right up to Falcon BMS. When then F-16 Viper landed on DCS, I switched over and got into VR. Along this journey I also played Microsoft Combat, F/A-117, Flight Simulator X.

  1. The F-14 module now has a bug with a floating mirror when you sit in the RIO seat with the canopy open. It appears the mirror is fixed in the position when the canopy is closed and does not bind to the position of the canopy.
  2. I'm late to this great free mod. I love the fact the T-45 is a multicrew supported aircraft. I have been looking forward to a trainer for some time as I wish to take my daughter and friends on joy flights together, where I do all of the work. The F-14 is a multicrew aircraft but once in multiplayer, I lose control of Jester and starting the aircraft is impossible with a RIO completely unfamiliar with this plane. The T-45 on the other hand supports a "passenger". I just wish the controls were synchronised, and at the very least, synchronising the canopy! Nonetheless, it's my go to aircraft for taking friends on VR joy flights. Synchronising the controls (MFDs) would be a huge plus for me. Great job the developers VNAO did with this mod. I'm truly grateful. Has anyone got a cunning way to synchronise controls between two computers? [Update] I found a workaround. I use a modified VoiceAttack command to perform the essential start-up actions. Each is mapped to a keyboard binding. I run InputDirector (which I have been running for years) and initiate a mirror action so as the pilot's start-up routine is executing, the instructor PC is executing the same (keyboard bindings are equal). This works surprisingly well as a hack for now.
  3. I have followed this thread with interest. Panning always worked for me until suddenly it didn't and I cannot understand what, if anything, has changed. The normal behaviour, for me, has been double-click the mouse scroll wheel activates the "look around the cockpit" view but the motion is not from a fixed camera location, i.e. the camera moves horizontally and vertically. A second single-click of the mouse scroll wheel and the camera becomes fixed therefore when moving the mouse the camera tilts up, down, left and right and provides the ability to pan. Suddenly, however, I cannot activate the fixed cockpit camera mode. I now can only move the cockpit camera vertically and horizontally. I don't know why the fixed camera mode has suddenly gone. I am liaising with EA Support currently. I hope this issue can be resolved. NB: This mode suddenly disappeared a while back due to an update. Then after a few months and another update, the above behaviour suddenly appeared again. I can locate (F-14) cockpit camera mouse (only) bindings that I'm sure manage only horizontal and vertical cockpit camera movements. I have no idea where the pan bindings are for the mouse for the cockpit view. I'll aslo add that the camera works as expected in the F2 view, i.e. the camera remains fixed. Not in the cockpit now, disappointingly.
  4. Ojo, I simply add additional voice commands to VoiceAttack, to complement the VAICOM Pro commands. Unsure if you can add commands to VAICOM Pro's list. I haven't explored this and a quick scan of the Guide doesn't reveal this ability.
  5. I'm no expert here, but I've read many threads and posts that suggest DCS is not multi-threaded and therefore doesn't take advantage of multiple cores within the CPU. Anyone, feel free to correct me. Single core performance, at this time, is perhaps best for DCS. GPU is definitely a factor on VR. I run a NVIDIA RTX 2080, 32GB (2666) RAM and i5 9700 CPU with an Oculus Rift S and I get decent VR performance - minimal stutters - with settings set close to high.
  6. I got into DCS as soon as the F-16 Viper became available, the Viper being my all time favourite. Since then, I've acquired the F/A-18, F-14, Spitfire, Huey and most recently the AV-8B Harrier. And I must confess, I have been flying the Harrier almost exclusively lately. Really enjoying it for AG, which is mostly what I enjoy ... so far (single player). If you enjoy the F-16 and F/A-18, I think you'll enjoy the AV-8B ... and VSTOL is a nice feature of this aircraft (Tarawa take-offs and landings).
  7. Apologies if this topic has been covered already. I fly in VR. I've used the CTLD and MIST lua scripts for JTAC missions (SP). I've also looked at Scratchpad. Has anyone managed to have the messages these scripts output to screen written into a file that can be displayed in, say, the Scratchpad overlay or similar? This way, those messages can be logged and one can refer to them (after they have disappeared from the screen - much like writing them down) for further action, say inputting coordinates. The Scratchpad app unfortunately (as far as I can tell) does not actively display text written into it's text file (usually 0000.txt). I know there are talented contributers (programmers) within the DCS community. Better still, does anyone know if EA is working on a message output system that helps VR players? -Leo
  8. I use VoiceAttack and it's great. What's the advantage/need to use VAICOM also?
  9. Appreciate the focus being put into this. It is a shame the Replay Tracks are corrupted for the F-14. I suspect that the Jester interactions may have something to do with this. I have also noticed that when looking from the outside, the Jester menu appears and then remains there. I'd like to see a resolution because, as with the other aircraft, I love flying them, saving the Track, and then composing videos. I'm unable to repeat this with the F-14 at the moment, sadly.
