  1. Me2. Cool idea - community organizes to collect cash to pay for some add on that DCS does not have time/money for. Or perhaps fund a DCS-resource for a limited time.
  2. I agree - very good post & reply. We will probably have to wait a while before we can have what we want. Again - my message - invite the community, enable for the community to extend & enhance the product via openly documented api's & formats. This could make the series boom! regards, david.
  3. Ah - ok, hmm - interesting. I agree. DCS has made a excelent "simulator" - but as a "game", replayability etc. it is lacking as we have discussed. My main reason for my previous post was to argue that "empowering the comunty" have in many cases proven very successfull. Could DCS open up more - enable us, the comunity, to develop a more l"living world"? - radio chatter (random & scripted) - more civil traffic - add 3d modles (houses etc. can we do this now already?) Hm - also problems like "where to place troop items".. how to script placement at "natural defences" etc. API needs to be able to "read the map" - i.e. auto-scrip place troops at choke point, bridges etc. I guess that troops ar placed by a x/y coordinat - and that it is hard to "scriptedly interpret map geography / characteristics"? regards david.
  4. Oh - ok - is there ok/good api doc's? Where? I'lld like to at least take a look at them. I've looked at http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Main_Page and it seemes lacking.
  5. DSC: Open up for mods! Hi, I'm a lurker - plays some now and then.. I'm also in my thirties, software engineer consultant at day time. Since Doom - I've seen how "open up for modifications" can empower a game and the comunity. (oh memories of home made doom maps..) And in the sim-business - look at the Flight Simulator series. There are guys out there makeing money on ad ons! And al other "free" ad ons by enthusiasts. DCS has made a great simulator - we all love it - the flight charastics, realism etc. It falls short in some areas - we have discussed them alot. This thread - dynamic campaign - I understand DCS has many priorities - and a DC for BS is not high I guess. What i propose is that DCS open up - make it more possible - for us - the community - do develop the DC feature! As have been discussed here - simple LUA-missions. But hard to "analyse results" after mission. It should be simple (well - relatively) for DCS to open up an API / result file / something - for the comunity to use and build on. I imagine - if DCS open up api/framework of mission building / analysis / etc. we - the community - can together build a DC. I believe - if DCS wants an active community - the right ting to do is to open up such possibilities. Imagine - us - enthusiasts - developing the DC.. starting with a single player DC... then adapting for an multi player online variant.. A new battle - DC-generated - each day or weekend. Hope someone at DCS reads in on this. And understands the importance of empowering the comunity. It truly is a win-win road in my eyes. regards, David, sweden.
  6. Yez - an independent - " neutral" - all nordic flying task force is forming... - rather ragnarock instead of ragnarök... don't fancy "semi ariska clicheer"..
  9. Ah, oh, sorry, a simple search for Chickenhawk would have pointed me there I guess. :)
  10. Hi all. I gave up BS a few months back. Several reasons; - had hard time finding nice coop casual on-line coop servers in EU - got frustrated when dying... ;) - the game requires allot of concentration - and rewards are far between. Can be tough after a hard day at work. - Call of duty modern warfare 2 was released. Offered instant feedback and gratification, fast action etc. But I've not lost interest completely - and I've reached top level in CoD and got bored of the mindless run-n-gun. I've also ordered some military aviation books and feel too share my experiences. First I read Ed Macys book Apache. That book got my flying-instincts back up - I wanted to be back in the saddle. Fast paced, action, but feels real too. Link: http://www.amazon.com/Apache-Inside-Cockpit-Fighting-Machine/dp/0802118941/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263204010&sr=1-1 I have his latest waiting by my bedside; http://www.amazon.com/Hellfire-ebook/dp/B002TU1QI4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263203785&sr=1-3 I have recently finished an even better book - in my opinion, Chickehawk by Robert Mason. This is not only a helicopter book but also a truly personal war story about Vietnam. I've also understood that this book is some what of a classic in the helicopter genre. I truly appreciated it and recommend it to anyone interested in choppers or/and Vietnam war. Even though "our" BS is a much different aircraft - a chopper is always a chopper! :) http://www.amazon.com/Chickenhawk-Robert-Mason/dp/0143035711/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263204137&sr=1-1-spell Finally, I'm now reading about "the Hog" - I've yust a couple of chapters left and it sure has me drooling for the DCS-version. http://www.amazon.com/Warthog-Flying-10-Potomac-Warriors/dp/1574888862/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263203571&sr=1-2 For more "Hog-books"; http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=a10+warthog&x=0&y=0 I've looked at this one - is it good? http://www.amazon.com/Low-Level-Hell-Hugh-Mills/dp/0891417192/ref=pd_sim_b_2 I also have this one sitting on my bedside; http://www.amazon.com/Hundred-Feet-Over-Hell-1968-1969/dp/0760336334/ref=pd_sim_b_4 Do you out there have any favorites to share? Finally some thoughts from me after reading these three military-aviation books; DCS BS missions feels a bit static. Many challenges in chickenhawk are perhaps not viable in BS, I think of; Auto rotation, landing in confined areas etc.? After reading A10 book - it seems like A10 was designed to operate in Europe - smashing soviet tanks at very low altitude. BUT in Iraq A10 had several other assignments - in a totally different landscape and flight rules. I.e. A10's in Iraq flew at high altitude, looking with binoculars for targets, diving down through holes in the cloud to engage targets at range. I also noted the strict rules of wingmen cooperation - i.e. 1 attacks while the other covers the attackers 6 o clock. I'm also fascinated by how the payload of heavy bombs affect flight characteristics. Another cool thing is the "manual over ride" of the flight controls - if the normal controls fail. I hope that feature is modeled by DCS. Another observation - as BS - A10 hardly seems to engage in air to air fights, except some odd chopper kill. I do fear the modeling of the A10 stick - and the A10 lack of auto pilot features... It also seems to lack modern night combat features. But perhaps this has changed and evolved since desert storm? This raises the question of what kind of A10 is DCS modeling? A 1990 or 2010 version? For more free A10 info; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-10_Thunderbolt_II Regards, AChoice - David
  11. Mmm I flew a bit a month back or so. Been busy with Cod MW2... Sweden.
  12. Nav lights Hi, a simple question: Does NavLights on/off affect AI ability to spot me? When playing coop NavLights ON makes it easier to spot each other. But does it also help enemy to spot us?
  13. I really do recommend TrackIR. After I saw some BS trackIR movies on youtube I got hooked and ordered both the game and trackIR. It's so cool to be able to look around inside "your" cockpit - and view out to left/right etc. I've plugged trackIR to my monitor which has an USB hub, works great. regards, David.
  14. great fun! Played online a few times and I relay like the maps! Yesterday I was in and we played "Hind napping". Damn - those Hinds are sharp shooters! Nice terrain. We switched map because there was only 4 client slots. Is this a limit for this map? Defense of Batumi sure has an interesting and intense start - love it! First time we got run over by tanks which forced us to a map restart... Second time we made it. That first bridge is really hard to get at. Super-missiles kill us all... Last time I tried sneaking to Bridge 2 from behind - attacking from south west - it worked like a charm. I enjoy this map. Some more bridges/areas to clear - or some more enemies on the hills would be good. I like the short distance from takeoff to action. NightHawkHunter is a monster of a mission.. surprise convoy to hunt - that's cool. If Convoy is not cleared the FARP is hard to beat. Once FARP is cleared it's hard work at the airfield - nasty SAMs hit you if you go high. Cool map. regards, David - Achoice.
  15. How to break (in air :)) ? Hi, I often find myself in a situation where I need to break from 200+ AIS to a hover. My current tactic is to do these roughly simultaneously: - Pull cyclic back so nose points up - gaining altitude - loosing speed. - "Reduce" Collective - hence loosing altitude/lift and also speed. This kinda works. If I apply collective first - I gain allot of altitude - and risk getting seen by enemy. So I usually quickly start with the collective and the use cyclic to "cancel out" loss of altitude due to almost no collective. While doing this i monitor the Vertical Velocity Indicator - trying to keep it at 0. This kind of works. But in a stressful situation I fail and gain alot of altitude. Also finding this hard to do if I'm in a turn/course change. Any comments or suggestions? How do you "break"? Perhaps I should plan breaking in advance... regards, David.
  16. Yes I know - it might well have been above 5 km/h IAS. I understand I should engage below 5. But I find it puzzling and dangerous that AP-dampers are flashing/disabled without warning if I engage when flying to fast. Perhaps it's part of simulating an unforgiving reality? :) regards David.
  17. a) Every time was way above 4 AGL. b) I trimmed. but perhaps I was 1) not quite in hover-mode when activateing auto-hover 2) engaged Auto Hover "while trimming"..? c) Hmm. No dont think so. Any how - I wonder what causes the AP-dampers to disengage and flash when I'm way above 4 AGL. I'm learning to take more care with auto hover - but still - I find quite dangerous.
  18. 1) Hotstart 2) Does not matter 3) B 4) Yes, that would be nice 5) Both. I dislike shooting men/troops. 6) B 7) Spread out - with possibility to rearm/recover closer to action as mission progress. 8.) B
  19. Hello, I've experienced some problems regarding auto hover. Several times I've engaged auto hover only to find that I loose control - chopper spins etc. When I glance at the blue auto-pilot buttons 3 of them are flashing! My interpretation of what happens is this; I fly fast... The three normal AP-dampers engaget I spot a target, lock it, engage "Auto turn to target" I manually try to hover chopper. I engage "auto hover". (perhaps a bit to early...) Whoops - I loose control. Chooper spins and is very hard to control! It seems as auto-hover has disabled the three AP-dampers. Looking at the blue buttons they are now flashing! I disable Auto hover and manually click the three dampers again - phew. I've had several crashes due to this. I wonder - what causes the three AP-dampers to flash/disengage? Follow up question: Some times the texture on the blue AP-damper-buttons change. The brightness changes so that it is hard to tell if they are enabled or disabled. Anyone experienced this? regards David, Sweden.
  20. Hi all. I've played alot FPS online, (from Doom over 14k modem and forward... :) Never active in clans or so though). BS is my first SIM-game-online. So, I got BS a month or so ago. Flew the first campaign - great fun. Am a bit in to the oil war - good fun too. So I've recently started to join some online gaming - and here are my impressions. - Few servers (Sweden, CET, prime time). I guess most german servers are not updated. - I've often see cyrillic in ingame chat - hi to eastern guys! - I'm used to "labels on" and on all online they have been off. Fair - but makes it damn hard to find target - and separate enemy from friends. But hey - thats reality. - Of course no time acceleration - this makes cold starts a bore. Also makes long transport flights rely boring. My advice to mp-level-designers is to try to keep distances short if possible. - 1 server had "respawn in air" - that was way cool. After crash I was placed right back in a new FLYING chopper at home base - more action for me. - I mean, it's rely no fun to spend 5 min to startup, 10 min to fly to enemy, 5 sec to get blown to pieces by a missile i never saw or got any warning from. - Most servers I've played at all humans was on 1 team. I like this since many of us are rookies. I find it entertaining to join up with humans and fight for a common goal against the AI. I believe as I (we?) get better - and we have more guys playing per server - playing on different teams will be fun - but not yet for me. - 1 Server had chat-voting, for next map etc. Good. - 1 server was announcing TS connection configs. I connected but was the only one there. Is TS used/common in BS? I would love to fly and chat. - As far as I know there is no "ranking/status"-system. I.e. something to promote good behavior in MP. For example; number of deaths / hour in air online, kills / hour online. Number of successfull MP missions. Or other stuff/data/statistict and perhaps MP-medallions to go with that. I.e. get some prestige/show of for being a good pilot online. Perhaps this kind of stuff more belongs in a "FSP-online world" - but worth considering I think. regards David.
  21. Hi, earlier this week I made one of my first flights online. I did OK, rely fun to fly with others. Cool to study those that are better than me - and those that are more novice than me. :) This was the mission with 3 über SAM's guarging an airfield - good mission. However - I spectated another pilot that flew super-duper skilled and low. I mean - flying like a hoover 1-2 m above ground kicking up dust at high speed. When ground elevation changed he flew like a snake licking the changes like ... i've never seen. He killed some stinger-guys with rockets very skilled. However - 2 things made me suspicious. I tried to contact via chat, saying hello, and hi, and complements - no response. (other players talked back) Second - at one time he flew so low, at a mountain slope that some of the chopper actually was INSIDE the hillside for a few seconds... collision detection problems? Or multiplayer sync error? Or something... Anyhow - it was impressive - almost too impressive. To the pilot! I must admit for a moment i speculated if it was a bot - does there exists bots yet? (i hope not) Any how - great fun! regards, david.
  22. Hi, I also find very few servers - playing in Sweden, CET, prime time. Quite often I've seen zero servers. Last evening, saturday, I saw zero servers. Then I clicked "history" and tried "connect" to a server I've played at earlier this week. Voila - I was in! How come the server was not listed in server list but still avalible? I believe it was midget-tosser server? I asked in chat in game and one other player copied my experience. He said that server list is buggy - is that true? regards, David.
  23. Good idea Arne. And this stuff - active involvement of producer (ED) and community is one key aspect of me (and many others I assume) like the game and continues to play/participate. I truely look forward to play these campaigns. I'm yust into the included campaigns. And a sense of work/preparation in the mission briefings - and a sense of continuity/flow between missions do greatly add to the gaming experience. Once again, hat off to Arne and ED - and good luck to all campaign developers! regards David.
  24. Confirmed. I use track ir 5, latest beta software. Standard curves are "slower" close to center - almost like snapping. And thats the way I like it. It's easy to drag/modify curves to increase/decrease this behavior.
  25. These vids sure helped me - especially auto pilot - had not grasped the R button. Like the sarcastic tone - it's a cool good sim - but we are also here to have fun!
