  1. Ok, inspired by Bill and John, well that kinda lets you off the hook, but the inspiration was quite a lot. Nonetheless, pretty good movie, as GA said, way to long on the showoff scene, but otherwise enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.
  2. Ok, just watched the trailer, watching the full version now....But "It's A Long Way to Tippereri"? WTF? Blatant Bill and John rip off or what??
  3. But you have to close at some point Otherwise you will leave your wingmen all on their own in the fight
  4. Yeah I use vertical scan too....But you still have to more or less have a visual on your target in order to lock them up, otherwise you are pointing your nose every which way and rolling around trying to find someone to lock up..... ...Seems there is no easy answer for engaging bandits within 10-15nm, when you are not sure of their exact location.
  5. The split would be a good idea, the problem with this mission is that there is no time to rezendevous with your wingman before the strikers get in range of the interceptors. That is, you are very lucky if you have all three wingman alongside you by the time you have to engage to prevent your strikers being shot down. An annoying oversight by the programmers imo...Irl there would be time enough for everyone to form up before moving onto target.
  6. Mugenjin I try switching to vertical scan mode, but they are often too far to be locked up...yet too close to get with RWS/TWS mode. winz, thanks for the advice, that's good I will try manually assigning and then getting one to cover me.... Its hard to notch when you are the leader, because you usually end up with about 4 missiles inbound at first contact. --- I am on about the 20th or so attempt at this mission, but I still enjoy it as I dont know how it will turn out everytime I approach it.
  7. I am playing through the FC2 f15 campaign. I am up to a mission that I am having a lot of trouble with, I think it is mission 9. SPOILER WARNING: You have to take off as part of a four ship flight, then you meet up with 4 su25s and four a10s and escort them over the border to attack a chopper base. You engage a four ship Flanker flight, then after a while a second flight of Flankers is inbound. The problem is, I never survive the first fight in a fit enough condition to last through the second one, and often I dont even survive the first one at all. Originally, I would approach the fight by telling my wingman to engage bandits, then I would bug two bandits, and fire Aim 120s on them, before doing a split-s to evade their missiles. Then I turn back in and try to figure out what the hell is going on before they launch on me again, which they almost always do. Lately I have been having better luck by pressing once they launch, and using the barrel roll maneauvre to evade their missiles, it seems quite succesful. But the problem is once I get into the fight, and the bandits are at short to medium range (10-20 Miles), then I have trouble seeing them on radar, as you have to constantly scan up and down, and there is no time to do so before you are ontop of them. Usually, I just get missile warnings and try to figure out where the hell they came from, that is my usual method of detacting enemies, not a very safe one! Essentially, I have no Situational Awareness at short to medium range, and I keep getting creamed. Any tips from the pros? --- EDIT:I keep getting this message after I die "You have commited fracticide, you have lost all of your combat scores." What's that about?
  8. The Final Countdown, one of the most epic tunes ever created. Love it.
  9. Well, that was....Weird. Um, I liked some of the music, especially the second last song, that is awesome. But it could have done with a few more camera cuts, and maybe not showing the whole thing in real time.
  10. There was one shot where the position of the shot actually rotated around the formation, that is not a default view as far as I have seen. To embed, you use the tags and put the vid id (the bit after "v=") in between the youtube tags. Last tag needs a [/] on it.
  11. :) Still looking great! How did you do some of those camera moves? Are you scripting the camera? --- @Castle: Lolz. I love the movie, but still yours are funny comments.
  12. Less than 10 kms and there would hardly be any time left for a notch anyway..!
  13. Interesting video. Why do they all pass through that canyon? And why do they tip there wings like that? Is it a salute to the permanent crowd there?
  14. I think the f15 is infinitely easier to use than the Flanker. Thus I have never learnt the Flanker fully (although I did pass the 104th Flanker module). Everything is so much more automated in the Eagle, self trimming is a huge plus on its own, then you just put the radar in TWS and keep it there so you can see the altitude of every radar contact that shows up, and the there is not much else to do except fight. As mentioned above, stay near corner speed and all will be well.
  15. I have another question about notching. If you are doing it right, then that means that the signal from the enemy will disapear from your RWR correct? If that happens, how do you keep him on your 3/9? Visually then becomes the only way to do it, so if you are at long range, then you have no way to gauge your relative position. I am asking in the case where you want to dissapear from radar, rather than just dodge a missile. Second question: A lot of missiles are active or semi active such as the Aim-120, so even if you manage to dissapear from your attackers radar, then the missile will probably still pick you up with its onboard radar? Correct?
  16. Yeah I did the same as you luza a while back and discovered you just cant program trim to the rotaries. I use the upper hat and the lower hat for view. It works much better on the hat.
  17. O dear, looks like I added more confusion to the mix. I apologise. It's not an easy concept to explain, let alone if English is not your first language.
  18. Ok, say you have a gird, X and Y. Enemy aircraft is at the bottom looking up at you, so closure towards him would be on the Y axis. Now if you are going across infront of him, maybe not perfectly at 90 degrees, then you will still have a small Y component to your speed, it wont all be along the X axis. Say, maybe 1/7 of your speed is on the Y axis. The slower you go overall, the slower your Y component will be, thus the more chance you have of fitting in the 'notch window' or whatever it was called above. 144km/h if I remember correctly. So the slower you go, the more chance you have of a notch, but as mentioned above, you dont want to slow down, cause you may need that airspeed to make a last ditch maneavre if the missile re-aquires you, or you will need that airspeed in order to turn and re-engage. So if your going really fast, maybe slow down a bit, but dont overdo it. --- EDIT: winz - I know it doesnt use pictures, but it is a very helpful analogy for how a radar operates if I am not mistaken.
  19. Ha! Exactly what I thought - those explanations above will confuse the newcommer more than enlighten him. Allow me to have a try: The enemy's radar looks at one 'radar picture' to the next and compares how much things have moved in that x number of miliseconds. Most of the stuff (if the radar is looking down) will all have moved the same amount and thus the software is programmed to label everything moving at that speed, relative the aircraft, as ground. This all gets filtered out. Now things that are not moving at the same speed as the ground, ie your aircraft all get labelled as contacts, provided they are of a certain size etc. Now if you change you heading so that you are no longer moving away or towards the enemy's front, relative to the ground, then you will effectively only "move" on his radar the same distance as the ground each snapshot that the radar makes. Thus it will reject you as ground and filter you out. So effectively, what they are saying is move perpendicular to the enemy and below him, you want to be moving towards him or away from him at the minimum possible speed. Moving across the front of him left to right, or right to left is ok, but you do not want to be facing towards him or away from him. This will make you look like a peice of ground on the radar. I hope I have succeeded in making some sense.
  20. Ah, I am glad to hear someone else say so! Often I franticly try to lock up a target before coming into range of short Range SAMS and AAA, usually I have to turn around and put some distance between me and the target in order to try again. Efficient flying this is not. --- Yeah winz, I agree with the OP on this. If it isnt simulated properly ED should be able to fix it.
  21. Wow. Flanker flying is a whole different kettle of fish. The combination of various radar modes and EOS means there are so many more options at your disposal and tactics you can use and even invent than in the Eagle. Wow, I had no idea flying the Flanker online was so in depth. No wonder I steer clear of it! :) dooom, with the tactic you mentioned, I dont understand how an Eagle would let you fly right up underneath them? Unless you are notching, which you arent, there radar should pick you up as soon as they get nails on the RWR and turn to see who it is. Being low down can mean being a bit harder to find, meaning by the time they see you you may already be ready for a shot, but most of the time they should pick you up on radar just as you did to them.
  22. Thanks for the explanation all. Fortunately, I already understand the concept of doppler radar, so I totally get how this works. The thing is, for this notch tactic to work, you basically have to put yourself at 90degrees or very very close to 90 degrees away from the nose of your launcher. Presumably, the launcher is guiding the missile with its radar, but then what if the missile is not on the line between you and the launch aircraft? Is the missile is Semi Active or Active, it may still be able to pick you out from the ground clutter as it is at a different angle to the hostile aircraft's radar. Sounds like a good tactic to master no doubt, I will start trying to use it, but it seems as though there is a lot of skill needed in order to get it right.
