  1. I don't think you interpreted my comment the way it was intended. I want the Yak-52 finished also.
  2. At the expense of being a #MeToo #DramaLlama, ED providing some realistic time lines would go a long way to sucking the air out of this tempest in a tea pot.
  3. This is not the point of the objection to having the file as an exe file. Files on web sites are sometimes tampered with and the web site owner doesn't know about it. Also, files can be tampered with "in-flight" when downloaded. This is computer security 101 type stuff. We all totally trust the makers of the mod - that is not the issue. The issue is that the mod is being distributed as an exe file that if tampered with can deploy a malware payload to the executing computer without the knowledge of the operator. I have no issues with the exe as a distribution method. Providing a hash for comparison would go a long way to quell the worries of some of the people in this thread. I posted how to do that earlier in the thread. I don't expect this exe to be a big threat vector but that doesn't mean a little "best practice" would hurt - especially on an inherently broken platform like Windows. $0.02
  4. Which one "speaks to you"? Buy that one.
  5. Wishing out loud, Canadian F-18B, which I understand is effectively the B two seater updated to roughly C specs. I think what people want is the back seat for various reasons; training, ride-alongs, work-load sharing, whatever. If a two seat '18B could be done with the current info publicly available this would likely be the easiest way to do it. Would be great to have but I won't hold my breath.
  6. You could post the SHA 512 hsah for the file to compare before executing: certutil -hashfile the_program_name.exe sha512 Once downloaded people can compare the number to ensure the exe has not been tampered with either on the web site or in transit. It's pretty common practice nowadays. Not really any extra work.
  7. All this tech does is render lower res on to your higher res screen. Sapphire has had something similar built into their GPU drivers for eons. For me, I'm running 4K quite happily. If I ran FSR then I'd effectively be running a resolution somewhere between 1440p and 2160p... lets' say 1700p (or something like that) plus a bunch of GPU rendered anti-aliasing turned on. Probably be better off to run 1440p with more in game anti's turned on. Or maybe not. Would take experimentation. Options are great but I'd rather upgrade the hardware to get the resolution I want running the way I want. That said, I've read that it is very minimal effort to incorporate FSR into modern graphics stacks. DX11, who knows? Plus there is the PITA of writing the front end for it in game. More sliders in the graphics config screen. Meh. ED is on a roll with content - for me if the coding and initial QA for this couldn't be done in 1-2 sprints I wouldn't bother with it till after Vulkan is released - re-asses then - or do it as part of the Vulkan release.
  8. Whistle-whistle just before touch down in that video is awesome. Glide on idle is the most likely way to be successful when landing any of the warbirds in DCS in IME. That said, once you get really good handling the warbirds in DCS and contempt/complacency sets in you can land pretty much anyway you want - even full power and flying like a demented monkey slamming the throttle back and forth. lol
  9. Mustang cooling model is b0rked.
  10. Iirc task manager only shows the memory used by the exe file, not the associated dll's that are loaded and such. When I was testing the Channel map when it first came out it was using ~24 GB.
  11. I'm ready to order one of these (Go Hind!). Shipping to near Ottawa, Canada? Approx. cost and waiting list / delivery time?
  12. notepad.exe will from time to time corrupt files - don't use it if you can avoid it. I don't know if this was ever fixed in Windows 10. Lots of people use notepad++ successfully. I use vscodium to get alignment with other work. Both are "free".
  13. U$2000 will easily get you a machine with AMD 5600x or Intel 11400k/11700k, 3070, 16GB of decent ram, and a 1TB M.2. I did exactly that just last month through Canada Computers. Hmm, it's even $200 cheaper now (CDN prices). https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=1446_1448&item_id=194305 Asus Tuf Mini-ITX, Gigabyte 3070 Gaming OC, TridentZ 3600 RAM... Was really very decent during the computer-apocalypse... Continue to research, GPU stock is starting to arrive and sort of stay in stock (newegg.ca). FWIW, I prefer Intel K series CPUs for the flexibility of future overclocking and iGPU for capture without needing add-in cards/devices. That said, the 5600X in that build above plays DCS quite nicely. Whatever floats 'yer boat. I should add, I have another machine with a 11700k, 3060Ti (Gigabyte Eagle OC). If you do NVIDIA skip the 3060Ti and go with the 3070. Noticebly better in DCS and in general. For the sake of the price difference get the 3070. I have no experience with modern AMD GPUs so can't speak to that.
  14. Mildly shocked the Hind didn't release with a Cypriot skin...
  15. IIRC Suntsag has a photo recon mission that makes use of zones and triggers to simulate the photo taking and delivery aspect. He has a youtube video that explains it. I might be muddling the details. It was posted something like 6-9 months ago I think.
  16. Oh geez - thanks for pointing that out!
  17. If I was buying today to build around that GPU I'd probably do a K series Intel CPU just because it has a built in GPU that can be slaved to OBS for recording without affecting FPS. I have three different machines with DCS installed (10700k, 11700k, 5600x) and from a seat of the pants feel there's not much in it but the 11700k does feel a touch snappier. GPUs are 3070 and 3060 Ti. Can't really go wrong with any newer CPU. I'd compare single core performance at cpubenchmark.net and buy by cost/availability beyond that. HTH
  18. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/37634/these-are-the-proposed-paint-schemes-for-the-navys-new-adversary-super-hornets Look pretty slick! Would love to see these on our "antiques". Lol
  19. No, that is how I buy modules as well. Best capabilities really don't matter - just what interests me. In the case of the Hind, I have the Mi-8 (on sale, impulse buy) and really warmed up to it; figure the Hind will be more of the same but bigger boom-boom. I'm not really interested in the Apache. But am interested in the Kiowa when it comes. Need this kind of livery for the Hind:
  20. I think that at this stage of the war the writing was on the wall for the Nazis forces so taking a kill for every encounter was worth doing to win the war of attrition. I would expect that earlier in the war when Nazi production of aircraft and pilots was still high staying with the formations would be doctrine to ensure delivery of bomb loads to get to the latter state of attrition. $0.02
  21. So, who has printed the Authentikit stuff for the Spitfire? Experience with it?
  22. FWIW, full fidelity F-15C would be day one purchase for me. Fox-1, Fox-3, whatever variant is practical to model, don't really care.
