  1. My 2c would be that these soviet aircraft have a WOWs sensor to prevent accidental retraction. My father flew Lightnings and Vampires in the 60s for the RAF and said you couldn't retract the gear on the ground...
  2. Thanks for the reply! Perhaps not, however I have never needed to use ST as a diagnostic tool...
  3. As in the title... (Before somebody suggests it... I renamed the bin folder to bin.bak and DCS ran without any problem)
  4. Which runways /airports have arresting cables modeled please?
  5. Not as such, no, the track can be played in DCS and using a screen recorder (like Nvidia ShadowPlay) you can pause and edit the track that you are recording but that might obscure important details that the moderators / devs / 'experts' are looking for.
  6. That would certainly be easier to explain!
  7. As I know everyone who has commented on this post is eagerly awaiting an update... This morning I decided to do an auto cold start, something I probably haven't done this year, and lo and behold the normal switch sounds were clearly heard (you can imagine my surprise!) I then changed the mission to a hot start and ran the mission again and yes, the switch sounds have returned. I KNOW this sounds bizarre and I have no explanation but I'd like to say thanks again to all that contributed.
  8. This track is from a MP server and is huge! Can you create a simple SP mission to demonstrate the problem?
  9. I have just downloaded and installed the latest update update - however in DCS ME I cannot find the SU-27P1M? Other CH modules are present including the updated MiG-29, am I correct in thinking these updated aircraft are AI only?
  10. No, I never mess with the main installation. Thanks but remember, it's ONLY the switches, EVERY other sound is unaffected.
  11. Me too - I'll see what the support guys come up with but I reckon they're heading down the full reinstall road and for me that's simply not worth it, especially as there is no guarantee that it will work - I will probably just live with it. Many thanks for your input.
  12. Ha! Don't worry! I would be asking the same questions! Yes, I have increased the volume in the .lua. I have good quality speakers and headphones. No equaliser nor Windows sound enhancements. It's important to remember that this is a recent problem, I cannot remember exactly but certainly this year, before switch sounds were loud and clear. also subtle sounds like weapon launches are still clearly audible, it is ONLY the switch sounds that are silent. Are the sound files for switches accessible and unencrypted do you know? @BIGNEWY
  13. Ok, so I bit the bullet, removed the SAVED GAMES/DCS folder, started DCS, tried the switches and... silence.
  14. This is what I imagined, tracking down the culprit could be quite time consuming and I am questioning if it is worth the effort for restoring switch sounds
  15. Just to keep anyone who is interested in the loop, this is the reply from DCS support and my questions to them... "Hello Jeremy, I played a track from the forum and I heard a switching sound in this track. I also hear a switching sound in any mission from Instant Action. Please, rename the C:\Users\solea\Saved Games\DCS folder to any name and check a sound. Renaming will remove unofficial mods and reset all user settings to the default level. Sincerely yours Alexander Maximov" "Please notify us that you are ready when the DCS folder is deleted or moved to another location. Our assumption is that these are still mods (or the remains of their files) The fact is that the clicks go along the same channel as other sounds. And in the vanilla version of DCS, such a problem, in our opinion, is excluded. Best regards and many happy landings ! Konstantin "MotorEAST" Kharin Eagle Dynamics IT Team" My reply... Thank you for your quick reply. I have a couple of questions... 1. If I rename my current SAVED GAMES/DCS folder and allow DCS to rebuild that folder, will I then, at some point, be able to restore my original SAVED GAMES/DCS folder should I wish to? 2. My current SAVED GAMES/DCS folder contains approximately 16,500 files. If returning to the vanilla version of DCS restores the switch sounds how will I know which of those 16,500 is the culprit?
  16. Ah, then no! I have tried that several times to no avail but thank you for the suggestion, the most puzzling aspect is that ALL other sounds, both inside the cockpit and out function normally.
  17. Irrespective of what value I assign to switches they remain silent and yes I hear the AB sound. @BIGNEWY perhaps this problem extends further than my specific setup?
  18. Many thanks for pursuing this somewhat esoteric problem! It IS saving the changes. I went from 300 to 100 and the change was saved in the options.lua no still no switch sounds.
  19. Thanks for the suggestion, which .lua are you referring to?
  20. You don't need to reinstall DCS, simply rename the AIRCRAFT folder that is in your MODS folder to AIRCRAFT OLD and run the mission again. I AM SURE THAT THE PROBLEM IS ONE OF THE AIRCRAFT MODS.
  21. Ok, I flew the mission twice, first time an air start in case there was something bugged on the ground the second time from the airbase. Both tracks worked as expected, tracks attached. I suspect there is something in your MODS folder causing the problem. practice troubleshooting GROUND START.trk practice troubleshooting AIR START.trk
