I believe the line between good constructive criticism and downright trash talking, for some forum members has gotten extremely blurred. I'm absolutely interested in hearing/reading good, well informed, well stated constructive criticism. The best criticism comments, should have you questioning your position, even if all is well on your end. Unfortunately though, a majority of those sharing their issues, for some reason, feel that it's necessary to include completely disrespectful and disparaging statements/remarks towards ED, and their staff, as well as anyone that has a different opinion. *That*... I'll never understand, nor do I feel inclined to do so.

I have a Pimax Crystal and in my humble opinion, I believe it's quite accurate now. For examples: I'm able to see the faint silhouette of a MiG-19 against the clouds from a head-on aspect at approx 4-5 miles, *if* I know where I need to be looking. The 'heavies' I can spot at 10-12 miles +/-, if I'm visually scanning diligently. "Flying" the Tomcat at 10k and trying to get visual on the maneuvering A-4E sporting the desert camo down low above the NTTR, is *very* challenging. Once I do get him in sight, I don't dare lose him, or I have to get way down low and *hope*I can spot his silhouette against the sky. The accuracy of Jester's Bandit callouts in the 2v2 fight are definitely in question for me. Either he's incorrect 1/2 the time, or I'm just that blind. Anyway....as they say at the real 'Topgun'... "Lose sight...Lose the fight" Comparing the same results to my daily occupational experience, I believe it's very accurate in its current state as of 07/24/24. I'm happy to post a screenshot of my VR settings upon request.

And I thought the overwhelming mediocrity of my 'Knife Edge Passes' were due to my poor flying abilities. -
More visual learning material for M2 and M3

I can't remember what Tailhook Issue it was that I read, but back during the advanced training syllabus with the TA-4J, night form (maybe parade?) was definitely a thing. The author gave his account of launching during twilight, and spending the next 1.5-2.0hrs (if Im remembering correctly) of grueling night formation training. The author stated that although it was very difficult to locate the instructor in the abyss of the Gulf of Mexico, (and I can't for the life of me recall anything about the instructor's anti-collision lights being on/off), but the most difficult part was joining up and having/maintaining the correct sight picture during the join, then going through several turns. After a bit, the instructor would break off, and the whole process started over again. The article really put things in perspective in this 15yr olds imagination. Also... Grandpa Pettibone... "Don't ever.. EVER...FLATHAT! Never!!" Since that statement was written in regards to a fatal Navy helo mishap, it took me a bit to figure out that 'flathatting' also meant 'hotdogging'... Most of what I learned about NAVAIR, was by reading old copies of Tailhook magazine. But I digress.. -
Heavy Rain is truely horrifying now (2.9.6)
=DROOPY= replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in Clouds & Weather System
Rain in the Viper I can concur with @Nealiusas well. I have an older mission I downloaded from the user section, called 'Tanker Escort', created by someone named "d0ppler". Pretty cool mission. When the Viper is at v1 or faster, the rain was visible along the lower sides of the canopy, and distorts the shapes of the wings and weapons, in what I would have to call a "ribbon" effect. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3325885/ -
ED will quite literally be 'leaving money on the table' .. if they choose to completely neglect/abandon the NTTR. Just sayin...

Found it... Please excuse my poor memory on the details. But in my defense, it's been several years since I watched it before today. -

I seen a YouTube vid a long time ago, of a Growler section departure from Fallon, filmed during a rainstorm from the back seat. If I can find it, I'll post a link. It's been quite a while since I seen it, but if I am recalling it correctly, I want to say that while the pair sat on the runway numbers, the rain on the canopy would bead briefly, then fall straight down in a very narrow and beaded stream. When the takeoff roll began, the beading rain would slowly transition from straight down to a slow front to back motion, and by the time v1 was achieved, you could barely notice it was raining at all, aside from the spray being kicked up by the wheels on the leads -2 up until airborne. After that the rain was nearly imperceptible, when looking out the sides of the canopy. Windscreen may be a different story... I'm about to begin my work shift for the day, but I'll do my best to find the video ASAP. -
Not that my opinion even remotely matters, or will even be remembered by others after 4 more post's in this topic, but I don't recall encountering any of the issues everyone seems to take issue with. Am I ignorant about what quality I *should* be expecting with Afghanistan? Highly likely. Coming from 3yrs of using a 1040p monitor and a RTX970 w/ a keyboard for so long, and now finally getting to upgrade to an actual capable rig with a TM Warthog and Pimax Crystal, for me, is like going from black and white 1962 TV, to 8k with Dolby surround sound. So... much to the dismay of others here (and the wife) I'll take DCS 'as is' all day long thank you very much. The only gripe I have, is that I can't commit consecutive hours and days into learning to operate a particular platform, and operate it well. It's all about perspective.

I'm not sure exactly why my situation is different based on all of the comments, but I'm willing to help if able. I am exclusively VR/SP When I installed the update this morning at approx 0730CST, I had zero mods installed, and even removed all downloaded skins. I updated into a completely 'vanilla' MT DCS folder. Other than a bit of shimmering on some structures in Afghanistan, ,y experience has been although *not* trouble free, I will say it has been overwhelmingly positive. The only true issues came up when I re-installed the Community A-4E-C. The first mission a 2v2 in a Tomcat, it froze, but eventually, the problem sorted itself out. Which is good, because I've been drinking. Pimax Crystal OPXTK PimaxXr Control Center QuadViews

I have to agree. I waited to say something, because ...well... with everyone having issues, I didn't think it would be well received. But my overall experience has been overwhelmingly positive. I play exclusively in VR. I had no mods or even extra skins installed when I updated this morning, if that matters. I have a Pimax Crystal, and other than a bit of shimmering on some structures on the Afghanistan map on my first flight, I have encountered very little issue since. I started DCS at about 0830L today and, with the exception of a lunch and a couple of bathroom breaks, I've been playing/flying. Its now going on 1830L. It's been so enjoyable, I put my yardwork on hold. I did reload the Community A-4E-C mod and had a few bumps when I flew a 2V2 against them in the Tomcat, but even that sorted itself out. I really dig the new launcher as well...even wish I could fill my monitor screen with it. I fully admit, I was borderline aggravated at ED, after the F-15E debacle, and then the forum blowing up because I *perceived* that we just got handed a complete trainwreck called an update. Well..I was seriously mistaken. I'm not a ED fan boi by any means, but for me and my experience today, I no longer feel stupid for dumping loads of cash into this form of entertainment. Well done ED. Well. Done.

As the title states... Although it's possible in some instances, I'd would really like to see this implemented across the board, so my AI wingman and I can look all Gucci inbound for the overhead.

I preface this question from the standpoint that I am absolutely *not*... I repeat... NOT complaining. Just curious is all.. I have not updated to the latest version, and after looking around the forums, I think I'm going to wait until we gat another update that hopefully will fix the myriad of issues. I don't need to know when, just wanted to know if the issues were being addressed. Thank you @BIGNEWY

F-4 Phantom Campaign announcement: 'MIG Killers'
=DROOPY= replied to Reflected's topic in Community News
@Reflected I have both of the F-14 Campaigns, but I have yet to start them, and from what I have read, it sounds like I should start playing MiG Killer's first, then S&A, and then Fear the Bones. Your thoughts? -
Right? @Raisuli I remember a PlayStation game I used to play called Aero Elite. If you screwed up on a training mission, the Instructor would comment: 'No....No.....No.... What....are you doing?!' Absolutely hated hearing that.

Thank you very kindly for sharing this... Much appreciated! I also removed same from the F-14 files...

@IronMike @Zabuzard I know you all are extremely busy working on my precious FF A-6E. (See what I did there? ) But it would be fantastic if someone from HB could help us all out with a status update/point of contact/acknowledgement on the T-shirts/Vinyls situ? Thank you very kindly from all of us for responding...

I'm fairly new to DCS as well but not new to flying simulation. I use the term 'flight simulation' loosely, because up until about 2019, I was using 'Ace Combat' to fill the void. And as we all know, it leaves a lot to be desired in the 'simulation' department. In 2017(?), while working as aircraft fueler at a FBO, a colleague introduced me to DCS by bringing his entire rig to work, tower, monitor, and VR.. the whole thing....and set me up for my first VR flight in the Viper. I was literally speechless. From that moment on, I knew that I wanted to be able to play DCS, and up until Feb/March of this year, I used a 1080p monitor, and a second hand tower with a Nvidia 970(?). When ED pushed out 2.8, I was done. My rig no longer had the power to run it in 2D. Up until last year, I was unable to budget for a rig capable of playing DCS in VR, and doing it well. Now I have a decent running cracker box that should get me through for the next couple of years.

I'll check it out in the coming day's! Thanks so much!

Thank you all for your input. Been a busy week for me, but I'm off work tomorrow and Monday and will give it a go and report back.
