  1. I absolutely got the point. Don’t assume someone lacks basic reading comprehension just because they disagree with your viewpoint. Half my post was on how to avoid the PRC getting offended and prevent what would be the resulting huge loss of revenue. Of course ED can’t afford to lose the Chinese market. I did not say ED should make a gamble and risk it. My point was that it was theoretically possible for ED to make a map centered around the Taiwan Strait without upsetting China, and I gave some examples as to how. It’s up to ED to make their own decisions at the end of the day and develop their own strategy as to how they go about it so that there isn’t a risk. Sorry for expressing a counter viewpoint and theory, jeez. For the record, games must be approved for sale in China. It’s possible ED could ask for permission from China to make a Taiwan Strait map first, and if denied they simply don’t move forward with development plans for said map.
  2. Just requires careful marketing. It can be implied in descriptions and marketing that Taiwan is a part of China/is a rebel province. Map labeling can be modified so instead of “Taipei” it’s “Chinese Taipei” (Taiwan competes in the Olympics as Chinese Taipei to appease China). The faction will be titled as “ROCAF” to distinguish between a rebel government on the Island of Taiwan vs Taiwan being its own country. This should be enough to sastify the Chinese government, after all its a video game. Eagle Dynamics is also not risking any political statement doing this. Air Canada got pressured by the PRC into relabeling their flights to Taipei from “Taipei, Taiwan” to “Taipei, Taiwan, China”. It’s pretty widely accepted by the world that Taiwan is a touchy topic and certain phrases must be used. In reality countries and people know Taiwan is de facto independent and not some rebel province. The fact that major world countries accept an ROC passport as valid for entry is enough to prove this. For comparison, major countries like the US, UK, etc. do not accept an Abkhazian Passport, requiring any person from Abkhazia to use either a Georgian or Russian Passport, which clearly shows they do not accept Abkhazia as independent (de facto or de jure). Not to mention the US recently sold 66 brand new state of the art F-16Vs to Taiwan. No way in hell would the US sell the latest block F-16s to just some Chinese rebel province. So yeah, Eagle Dynamics wouldn’t be taking any political statement risks because they chose to use certain phrases. Edit: I just realized, maps are sold as DLC anyways. If the map really would be a big issue with the Chinese government, perhaps ED can make it so that you can't purchase the map if you're location is in China. If Steam is able to make certain games unavailable in certain regions, so can ED.
  3. Taiwan Strait In my opinion this is a badly needed map. Aside from the newly released Marianas map, there’s no map featuring the Pacific/East Asia. And let’s face it, the next major conflict zone will be either Taiwan or the South China Sea (most likely both at the same time). Tensions are boiling and the US is slowly starting to take a stronger stance on Taiwan being de facto independent and pushing back on the One-China status quo. I swear every week I see at least one article on the situation. Even a USN Admiral was quoted saying that he expects a conventional military conflict to breakout in the region sometime within the decade.
  4. Hello, I was creating a mission today and stumbled across a bug where two Hornets spawn on top of each other on catapult 4. This causes the second Hornet to fall through the deck and proceed to explode nearby aircraft still on the deck. I have attached both the mission and the track file. test.miz test.trk
  5. I'm currently trying to create an Alpha Strike mission comprising of the following flights: Fighter Sweep, SEAD, and two Strike Packages. I want to make it so that the player is in charge of a strike package flight. However, I have found that player aircraft always spawns at the parking location directly behind Catapult 2. This is an issue as I want the Fighter Sweep and SEAD aircraft to take off first, but the player aircraft is blocking the way, preventing the last fighter sweep aircraft from taking off and causing none of the remaining AI aircraft to taxi and launch. I have discovered that aircraft spawn at the aft on work their way up to the bow of the carrier in the order of which they were placed on the deck. I tried to place the player flight first, then the other strike, followed by the sead, and finally by the fighter sweep. This managed to place the 3 remaining AI aircraft of the player flight on the aft most parking positions, but the player aircraft itself remains behind Catapult 2. Is there anyway to assign the player aircraft a different parking position?
  6. CVN-77 is a mod and is not part of the Supercarrier DLC, nor is it an official module for DCS. Best to message the creator or post a comment asking for help on the file download page.
  7. From the same guy showing it off in DCS with a side by side comparison to the real break:
  8. Bit of a harsh statement to make based off of a track file. I haven’t got a chance to look at it myself yet but no matter how poor somebody’s flying is doesn’t mean they don’t have the eagerness or patience to get better. Everybody starts somewhere and the first times are never pretty. I didn’t start with DCS, rather I started in FSX flying a Cessna back in 2013, and my first landings were atrocious. But I still went on to read the manuals, watch videos, and put in the dozens of hours required to develop the skills necessary to land that Cessna like a champ. I had the patience and eagerness to get better and do things properly. Overtime I moved onto PMDG airliners (consisting of long nights reading FCOMs and FCTMs) and eventually DCS with the Hornet. But fast forward 7 years from when I first tried to land that Cessna in FSX and I’m currently enrolled in a part 141 flight school landing real Cessna 172s pursuing a career in aviation. Point is, my terrible landings 7 years ago was in no way reflective of my patience and attitude toward learning, and neither should anyone else’s be. You have good intentions, and your advice is helpful and rock solid, I just felt that particular line was unnecessary.
  9. Absolutely not. I believe a 3 point landing is automatically graded a cut. The mains always take the brunt of the force. Plus, if you do a 3 point landing, your hook isn't in the ideal position to catch a wire.
  10. Silo is probably right in that your hook is bouncing over the cables due to lack of on speed AoA. However, without seeing you perform a Case I approach, there’s no real way for any of us to tell you where you’re going wrong. Are you able to record yourself performing a Case I approach and landing? If you can and are willing to upload the video to the forums then the community can pinpoint exactly what needs to be corrected in your case.
  11. With the Supercarrier released I fired up the mission editor and can confirm that there are 20 spawn slots for a single player mission: 4 Hornets on the Catapults ready to launch. 16 Hornets parked at various positions on the deck. I am quite thrilled that this is the case, as now we can create alpha strike missions that are comprised of aircraft launched purely from one carrier.
  12. Hi, Just have a quick question for ED. On the product page, the supercarrier is advertised to have 14 spawn slots. However, in the preview manual posted by Wags, the supercarrier is advertised to have 16 spawn slots. I was wondering if we could get some clarification on this for those of us who like to make our own missions. Thanks and looking forward to the release! Edit: With the Supercarrier released I fired up the mission editor and can confirm that there are up to 20 spawn slots for single player. Breakdown is listed in a post farther down.
  13. Nice write up. I truly do love learning about this stuff. You can learn something new every day. I have no shame in being wrong, you can only come out more informed.
  14. The DDI’s are not cycling. If watch the right DDI you’ll notice it stays in the fuel page every time it “cycles”. The DDI’s are also not blinking. The pilots see what you’d normally see when you’re flying the Hornet in the sim. What’s happening is that the DDI’s are probably powered by some sort of alternating current causing it to refresh every time the current changes direction. This will momentarily shut off the display each time the current alternates. If this momentary off/on/off/on happens fast enough, the human eye can’t detect it. A camera, on the other hand, can. If the camera’s shutter rate is out of sync with the DDI refresh, it may be taking an image just at the moment the DDI shuts off. Remember, videos are just a bunch of images taken in very quick succession. Fun fact: If you live in America then the lights in your House are actually flickering 120 times per second. The power in your house is a 60 Hertz (cycles per second) alternating current. That means the current changes direction every 60 seconds, which means the power will shut off 120 times. Humans eye can only detect flickering up to 50 times per second, so that’s why you don’t see the flickering. A typically camera doesn’t detect the flicker in lights because they’re shutter speed is too slow as well. Get a camera with a high enough shutter speed and it will in fact pick it up. Safe to say that the DDI’s refresh at a rate higher than 50 (cause humans can’t notice it), but slower than 120 (since a typically camera can). Here’s a video taken of various lights by a camera with a really high shutter speed, in case you are interested:
  15. Technically, yes, but in reality it's more complicated than that. China has a policy that for any country who recognizes Taiwan, China will break diplomatic ties with that country. Obviously, it's more important to have ties to China than to Taiwan. However, the majority of major countries have diplomatic relations with Taiwan equivalent to official ties such as an embassy building, consulates, and among other things. Yet, it's all unofficial. The American embassy in Taiwan is referred to as the "American Institute in Taiwan" for example. De facto, Taiwan is a country, but of course, de jure, it is not. You can enter most major countries (even China) with a Taiwanese passport, exchange currency around with world with Taiwanese currency, and more. Most countries treat Taiwan as a independent nation, just not officially. Any major country officially recognizing Taiwan would destabilize the region and likely cause China to use their military to "take back" Taiwan by force. It's just not worth officially recognizing Taiwan. It's far better to maintain the status quo and for countries to just sit quietly and recognize internally that Taiwan is independent. But that's also exactly why a map based around the Taiwan Strait would be such a great map for DCS. Super realistic area for modern/future combat, not to mention Taiwanese scenery is breath taking. Of course, the discussion here at hand is simply to put Taiwan as a selectable country in the game, not a map. And for the record, I'm not trying to start a political discussion here. I'm just stating the current situation for anyone who may not know. Not for me to say whether or not Taiwan should or should not be part of China, nor will I.
  16. With the Marianas map coming out, a Republic of China (Taiwan) F-16 livery would be nice. See attached files for some references. *Please don’t let this post become the basis of a political discussion. Regardless of your political beliefs, the ROCAF does operate the F-16A (with the F-16V on order) and therefore seems reasonable to have a livery in DCS.
  17. The problem isn't that I am unable to load in. I load in, I launch off the catapult, and then I get the message. The other 3 aircraft in my flight (which are also all loaded in and sitting on the remaining catapults) never take off. After creating my own mission with the Stennis, I have come to discover it can no longer handle 4 aircraft on the deck. The maximum it can handle now is 3, despite having 4 catapults.
  18. Hi all, I have had the Hornet for several months now and had previously completed the 1989 campaign. I decided to replay that campaign today but I have found the fourth mission, Fighter Sweep, no longer works. Every time I launch off the carrier, I get a message saying "your flight is delayed to start - please wait". I have gone into the mission editor and checked to make sure that both the mission start time and the player flight start time is the same, which they are. Having confirmed this, I'm not sure what is wrong with the mission as it used to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
