  1. Chasing my tail is an understatement. Having an ATC for traps in the Hornet is a must. It's impossible for me to use the coms menu and click on ATC, inbound, etc and have a good trap. It takes all my concentration on a good day. Up until recently I'd call "inbound" and get a reply from ATC but no more. This is what VoiceAttack is telling me and it must be related to Airo not working. 9:12:19.514 Listening suspended 9:12:19.485 Done. 9:12:19.483 Constructing message... 9:12:19.481 TX4 | AUTO: [ Air Traffic Controller ] , [ Inbound ] 9:12:19.478 There are currently no ATC recipients available. 9:12:19.476 Captured sentence: inbound 9:12:19.476 Have result, identified as command: Inbound 9:12:19.468 Recognized : 'inbound' I've tried going back to older versions of both VoiceAttack and Airio and even loading the latest no registration required free version and still no joy. Bummer. If anyone else has had the same problem and found a solution I'd be most appreciative to know what it is. Thanks
  2. Maybe it's just me but I'm at 10nm N of Rachel and cannot call up an opponent. I can hear coms but get no reply. I must be missing something. I call "Ready" but my Voice Attack hears read me. But that isn't even required is it? Basically all I've done for a day and a half is, well nothing. I'm tuned to 251.000 but no joy. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing? Also is this just a get behind the guy and shoot him? I was expecting some actual instruction in BFM. Is that part of the campaign?
  3. I haven't tried in VR but I will. I'm using the X-56 left hat for moving the view so I'll play around with it more. As you can probably tell by my answer I'm somewhat new to DCS. I've spent my time practicing so as not to look the fool in multiplay. I can't remember if it was Gen Curtis LeMay's autobiography or another book but the tale was told about letting an experienced pilot but new to the Mustang take a quick hop in one. They didn't tell him about the care required with a full fuselage tank and they got a kick out of watching him almost lose it right after take off. With friends like that.... but they figured he was good enough to handle it so what the heck. Thank you for the reply. Much appreciated! This documents the caution to be exercised with a full fuselage tank. Straight from the horses mouth so to speak:) http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/mustang/P-51B_Fuselage_Tank_4-43-23-1.pdf
  4. My Dad said you need a strong right leg on takeoff in a P-51. I cannot locate how to check the gas in the 85 gal tank behind the pilot. The gauge is not visible in any view I've tried. Also it should be noted with the 85 gal tank full the Mustang is tricky to control which is why that tank was the first one to be selected and emptied. I'm assuming the flight characteristics in DCS reflect that? I guess my questions are, is the rear tank behind the pilot full by default? and How can one view the gauge on top of the tank? thanks!
  5. I concure. I use it and wonder how I got along before.
  6. Howdy, Sabes here, I've been practicing since April to familiarize myself in the hope I don't make to many boneheaded mistakes or procedural errors when going into multi play. I'm a full time gearhead and restore older Alfas because I enjoy it, a retired photographer, and now into this. Aviation has always played a role since my Dad was retired Air Force, brother retired AA Captain, and I've logged a couple hundred hours in single fixed wing. I use Voice Attack in VR and screen to control gear, flaps, radios, enter data on the UFC, and a lot of other commands. For me it's especially great in VR. I've spent most of my time in the FA-18 mainly because I want to send my brother in law (retired Navy Captain and aviator) a good LSO grade on a carrier landing. Still working on that. I've done some time in the P-51 and F-86 but not nearly as much as the Hornet. This is the and I don't want to call it a game, it's more of an experience I've been looking for since I don't know when. I'm far enough along or at least I think I am to start some multi play and was hoping someone could direct me where the new guys go so as not to make a complete fool of themselves. The last thing I want to do is ruin anyone's enjoyment. Thanks in advance!
