Gents, I would like to share this amazing interview of one of the Debden Pilots, Col Joe Joiner. He was a Lt on his tour. It has some nice footage. Enjoy it! All the best, Sydy

Hi all, DCS WWII is intimating at first for beginners, and I have wanted to start a thread for a while pertaining to basic taildragger handling characteristics in a serious, but fun kind of way, because we are here to have fun in the end. The goal here is to give useful information to persons who may want it. If you notice I try to give a lesson with a screwup at the end, because nobody is perfect. for this particular vid, I chose the Fw-190D-9 because of it's wicked stall characteristics, any aircraft will do, even jets. The idea is to keep it an instructional level. Please post your vid here also, but ya got to include a screw up! to show what not to do.

Are there any WWII ships assets available for the last updates, or any planned? Looking for: Troop Transports Cargo Ships Work Ships Greyhounds Light Destroyers. Barges Oilers and Fuelers Also damaged or half sunk ships. ?

All the Quick Missions (Instant Actions) for the Warbirds (at least the P-51, Spitfire, FW-109A, FW-109D and Bf-109) make use of the WWII assets pack. This renders them useless for anyone that only owns the Map and the Planes. I believe that these should be: - Correctly marked in the Mission selector as requiring an extra package - There should DEFINETELY be a version that doesn't require the assets pack if the pack is not included with the map, nor required for any of the above modules Furthermore, there are some assets that are free from the assets pack and included with everyone's DCS copy, so those should be used whenever possible. All in all, I think it's not acceptable that EVERY SINGLE INSTANT ACTION for the Warbirds requires you to buy another product.

I gifted Normandy 2.0 to my nephew, but he doesn't have the WWII Assets Pack. When he tries to load the Bf-109 instant actions, he gets a message that he needs the module Armour and Techniques. Not sure if this results from the fact it was a gift and I DO own the module, if there was something wrong with his configuration or if the instant actions are really wrongly created and they need assets that are not necessarily owned by the user. I'd appreciate some pointers. Thanks. Edit: Perhaps this is a Bf-109 issue and not Normandy? But he doesn't have any other module to try.

12/16/22 Preface: In this Friday's OpenBeta update, the easy coding fixes have been added for the P-51, 190s, Spitfire, 109, and 47. However, the Mosquito has been missed. Additionally, the armor plates that are missing from DCS entirely haven't yet been included. Items that were fixed in the 12/16 OpenBeta update will be highlighted in green, and marked with the update date. TL;DR: Many warbirds have incorrect armor values, or are missing armor. If you open the x-ray.edm in the Modelviewer, and the individual aircraft's Lua, you can see the IDs from the Modelviewer and see what those objects' properties are. Please click on the photos here, as while I've minimized them in this post so it doesn't get cluttered, but if you click on them you will see them in better resolution. The P-51D (INCORRECT): [FIXED: DEC 16, 2022]The headrest and seat back armor (aka XArmor01 and XArmor00) - If we open Aircorps Library and look at the drawings for the late P-51D, like ours, we will see that these are two pieces of armor welded together. The headrest being 7/16", or 11mm...and the seat back being 5/16", or 8mm thick. Meanwhile in DCS, it is given a thickness of 22mm! For both plates! Almost three times the value of most of the area of the armor. I have an idea on how this value came to be, but I'll drop it into the spoiler below: [FIXED: DEC 16, 2022]The armored glass (aka XArmor02) - In DCS, it is given a thickness of 75mm. Using the schematics from Aircorps Library, we can again see that it is 1.5" thick, or 38mm. [FIXED: DEC 16, 2022]The instrument panel (aka XCockpitElement02) - In DCS, this is given a thickness of just 1mm! In truth, the instrument panel is a part that's for once, thicker in truth, coming out to 0.128", or 3.25mm. [FIXED: DEC 16, 2022]The firewall (aka XArmor03) - This is given a value of 12mm in DCS, or just a scratch under 1/2". For our 51D, it appears that a more possible value would've been 1/4", or 6.35mm. The P-51D (MISSING): The coolant header tank armor - This is a piece of armor that has been missing from the Mustang's damage model. It is 1/4" thick, or 6.35mm, and lies just forward of the coolant header tank within the engine nacelle, between the coolant header tank and the spinner. In summary for the P-51: -[FIXED: DEC 16, 2022]Change XArmor00 from 0.022 to 0.008 -[FIXED: DEC 16, 2022]Change XArmor01 from 0.022 to 0.011 -[FIXED: DEC 16, 2022]Change XArmor02 from 0.075 to 0.038 -[FIXED: DEC 16, 2022]Change XArmor03 from 0.012 to 0.00635 -[FIXED: DEC 16, 2022]Change XCockpitElement02 from 0.001 to 0.00325 -Add coolant header tank armor. Steel, 0.00635

Hello DCS Players, My Names Moose and my friends and i have been working on a little project we call ALLIED COMMAND. Basically we mixed Board Game rules into DCS using it as the board / battlefield for WWII Assets. Here is a Little Trailer Video we have produced to show a bit about what it is. A rules sheet has been developed. SYNOPSIS: Players are given a map (Caucasus) doctored up to look like Europe (This map was selected to the bar for entry would be low). Players are given army groups of different types which they must decide where to deploy on the map. Much like Axis and Allies. Once the battlefield has been determined the mission is created and the battle will be fought. Once the outcome has been decided then the post battle assessment is done and the next turn is started. Here is a link to the video. ALLIED COMMAND VIDEO Here is the link to the SILVER BEARDS Discord for if you have any questions or would like to get involved in the Mission. https://discord.gg/Xzkq2PXV We intend for these missions to be conducted in a Mil-Sim environment where we create flights of WWII aircraft and reach out to destroy the enemy armies on the ground before they can destroy ours. PVE at first. 2 - Lives limit exist for each player per battle played. (Meaning if you do not successfully punch-out or belly land 2x) you will become a spectator for the remainder of the round. Best of luck flying and hope to see some of your inquiries.

It's been a short while since I've flown the I-16 against other WW2 aircraft, and after flying it the other day I've noticed that the effectiveness of its 7.62 machine guns has substantially degraded. Now this may be more of a DCS issue than a module issue, but I was curious if others have noticed this. For example, in one instance, I managed to hit a P-51 more than 500 times, and it was still flying. There's a similar story involving the BF 109, where after hitting it over 100 times, I eventually had to physically assault his aircraft with my own to finish the job. TacView screenshots below: ---- For comparison, here's the results for an aircraft that isn't part of the WW2 group:

The release of the Marianas was a huge scenery booster to DCS. Especially for those with a love for low-level sightseeing ─ pardon: 'recon missions' ─ in slow prop planes and rotaries. Maug Islands has soon become my favourite spot, criss-crossing its caldera almost every morning... After a while I began to daydream and having visions. I saw shipwrecks on the caldera's bottom, with great whites patroling. And sometimes I even believed to see a glimpse of Amelia Earhart's Electra 10. With no knowledge or experience with neither ME nor Blender and its EDM Exporter it was a LONG journey until I had a good number of (unanimated) objects 'DCS-ready'. BTW, as the year in the title suggests, they're all peacetime objects! (The video, though, does include carriers and planes by Hawkeye60.) I don't know how long the next step, dealing with object animations, will (or would) take. But after months of work I felt for a break. And then <hint, hint> I think of the project as an 'open project' anyway. So everyone is invited to enhance and expand it! My personal whish-/todo-list includes animated sails and flags for the sailships animated Birdman (the original 3D model is actually fully rigged and playing in Blender) animated great white (same here) group of animated whales for 'whale watching' Thanks to tobi, grajo, copprhead. Without their help and work this project wouldn't exist. This free addon is not quite ready to be released, its scope will be much subject to availability/affordability of necessary licences. But here's a teaser video. Please comment and help to keep the project thriving. EDIT: 2022-02-03: I just put one of the sailships in the user files. 30+ variants of hoisted and furled sails, transparent or battle torn, bring some color to any of your sceneries and missions. Not alone the Marianas, but also to Normandy, The Channel, Syria... Version history of «BRIG»: v1.0 Initial release v1.1 Added moderate wake, front and aft. What seems appropriate for a sailship with no screws and an average speed of around 10 knots. v1.2 Improved NORMALS and SPECS for sail canvas. Streamlined usage of all NORMALS and SPECS, now only very upclose (LOD0, 300m, some LOD1). Some changes to the Static Templates. A second sample 'mission' file giving a quick overview of all 32 variants in box formation is now included (like screenshot above). Extract and overwrite all existing files.

So if you can't really have: - Beauty without the Beast - Laurel Without Hardy - Angels without wings - Cinema without popcorn - Love without kisses .....how can we really have The Spit without the Hurricane.....? Anyone support this? C'mon folks, back me up here. Please ED - I REALLY want the Hurricane - to go with my Spit.

This mod is a texture revamp of the default P-51D skins within DCS. It is an attempt to bring the Mustang's graphical fidelity closer to ED's latest texture standards. Currently it is only available in 2K, as the 4K texture overhaul is still WIP. See latest posts on this thread. Version: 1.1 (11/16/21) I have returned to this project in late October 2022, and the progress on a 4K texture Mustang has begun! For progress updates, be sure to check the latest posts on this thread. This is a WIP personal project. That means that working on this depends and uses my time, so I'm not going to be consistent. And the WIP also means that this mod will continually be updated! That means for the latest version with the newest features and latest bug fixes, you need to check in here or the DCS Userfiles occasionally. I will make a post here for every update I make. This thread is primarily for bug reports from you guys, feedback, and progress updates from myself. "Progress updates? Like what?" I will try to do major updates in phases. Planned features upcoming, in lose order, are: additional/modified weathering, increased texture resolution, completely overhauled rivet and fastener scheme, followed by an overhauled normal map. These last two are pretty far off. We'll see how this goes. As I work on these, I'll probably post little snips of the work in here. NOTE: NOT ALL SKINS FOR THE 51 ARE CURRENTLY INCLUDED. MORE MAY COME LATER. Modified default skins currently include: RAF 19 Sqn Jun 44 RAF 64 Sqn Jun 44 RAF 112 Sqn RAF 122 Sqn Jun 44 RAF 129 Sqn Jun 44 RAF 306 Sqn Jun 44 RAF 315 USAF 84th FS USAF 363rd FS USAF 364th FS USAF 375th FS USAF 485th FS USAF 302nd FS, RED TAILS (v1.1) Bare Metal (v1.1) Download for the 2K version is available here on the DCS website: Magic's Modified Mustang Makeup [M4] (digitalcombatsimulator.com)

Hello everyone, I just finished the Horrido FW-190 campaign. It was an epic experience. The voice acting is really great, I'm glad they went with German + English subtitles for immersion. The missions are nicely varied with unexpected events. I also loved the radio broadcasts and music. Thanks! Some screenshots below:

I own WWII Assets, but I cannot do the train strafing thing due to an error. It tells me that the module: WWII Amour and Technics is missing. Does anyone know what is up here? It is certainly not because WWII Assets is missing, because I have that.

On the way....... I think we got him! Have fun! New addition! This model is also from helijah I thank him! Presenting, The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk is an American single-engined, single-seat, all-metal fighter and ground-attack aircraft that first flew in 1938. The P-40 design was a modification of the previous Curtiss P-36 Hawk which reduced development time and enabled a rapid entry into production and operational service. The Warhawk was used by most Allied powers during World War II, and remained in frontline service until the end of the war. It was the third most-produced American fighter of World War II, after the P-51 and P-47; by November 1944, when production of the P-40 ceased, 13,738 had been built,[3] all at Curtiss-Wright Corporation's main production facilities at Buffalo, New York. She comes with Ten liveries, all from helijah I made This one is because My "Other" P-40 from THAT company got cancelled....... It may not be as nice or as detailed. Or Flyable. But she is a beauty! I so hope you enjoy her! Have Fun! https://www.dropbox.com/s/debc0u3mty6othq/Curtiss P-40 Warhawk V1.0.zip?dl=0

Happy New Year!. So, i dont fly anton, but i fight a lot against those, and i think they need a big DM tweak, its so hard to beat, several times me and my squadron buddies (we fly spits on SoW Server) spent all the ammo just in one Anton, we take turns shooting him, then with a lot of visible damage they start to flutter like butterflies, and they manage to fly for a long time including climbing so well that some time they escape, or it gives time for some enemies to reach us and catch us already without ammunition. So lately if we see an anton we let him go and much more if it is an AI. I don't usually complain about these things but it happens very often already, I know of many who are only grabbing it for that "super mega" resistance, historically I know it was hard but this is not normal the number of shots they can receive Cheers!

Well, the title of the sub-forum is WISHlist. So if a time comes in some indeterminant future where we have Battleships and Heavy Cruisers I would LOVE to see an OS2U Kingfisher. Take a cat shot off the fantail of an Iowa or Alaska class on WWII SAR Missions for downed pilots, bomb submarines, spot and fire direct 16in Naval guns, return to water land and get craned aboard. I'd sign up for ALL of that.
