uri_ba Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 (edited) I'm Flying with a Vive and I've noticed that I get very bad stutters every time I have an airport in view. I've initially thought it has something to do with VRAM but it seems that something in the Airport is Sucking up Triangles... Up to say 4M tris, which is enough for low level flight above an Urban area in 1.5.4 I have no performance issues what so ever. whenever I have an airfield in sight, empty or not. Tris count goes up to ~13M and FPS drops to about 15-25fps. not a problem in most cases.. big issue in VR. I couldn't pinpoint the building, but it seems to be something in the Aprons. Can someone confirm? is it just me? Thanks, Uri Spec: GTX1080 I7-2600K@4.2Ghz (HT off). P.S. if someone can edit the thread subject, that'll be great... -- Update -- Turning shadows from "Flats" to "Off" seems to have reduced the tris count from 16M to 6M. which is more manageable by the GFX card. I've been testing using the M2K "takeoff" mission, sitting on the RWY and look left. Knock-Knock Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 I just tried quickly in the Mirage Freeflight Instant Action with Rift, where you are flying up north where there isnt much detail. Trg count would be around 200k to 400k, but as soon as I looked at the airfield - flew around it, Trg count would go up to 4M, instantly. That does indeed sound like an awful amount of polygons for a single airfield, at some distance too even. I was about 1000ft above it, so aint exactly LOD A country either. - Jack of many DCS modules, master of none. - Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS. | Windows 11 | i5-12400 | 64Gb DDR4 | RTX 3080 | 2x M.2 | 27" 1440p | Rift CV1 | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind pedals |
Knock-Knock Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Just had a look again, and loaded the Free Flight Quick Mission into ME, and could see there were 8 Mirage jets on the ramp, along with a few vehicles. They were the cause of the 4 million. But it goes from 300k to 4M even at, dunno 3-4 miles distance, and even when flying really close to them down there, the Tris count barely moves from 4M. So does seem like a LOD issue. DId a quick test, one plane on the ramp, and when looking away from it, I had 60K, and when looking the same direction, but with the Mirage in view, it would be over 500K. Then moving back and back and back, to see if a LOD would kick in, I never got below 500K. Then did the same with the F-15 and F5-E. Both would be in the 300K ballpark, but when moving away, the scene Tris count wouldnt go much above 300k. So does in this case sound like a Mirage LOD issue. And who knows, if other suffer the same? - Jack of many DCS modules, master of none. - Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS. | Windows 11 | i5-12400 | 64Gb DDR4 | RTX 3080 | 2x M.2 | 27" 1440p | Rift CV1 | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind pedals |
Knock-Knock Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Did a little bit more sniffing. Have this Sandbox 'mission', which is just some training stuff, and I have all kind of activity with planes coming and going at the airport (Tblisi) and Enemy activity way out at Kobuletti. Anyway, spawned in with the Mirage and was just sitting there on ramp, not doing anything, just watching the Trg count. Sitting there it was 560K. Suddenly it jumped to 1M, that was two Hornets out on the runway, barely visible. It would remain quite solid at 1M, even when they came up close and parked next to me. 2 Huey's came on to land. At distance of around 100 meters on the ramp, they touched down. +70K each, so better optimized, but still. 70K at that distance seems like quite a lot. I then went CTRL+F11, and looked at this little cluster of airplanes, up close. 1.4M trg. I then moved back, and back, and back, untill I saw a significant change. 800K. And this is just a few planes, so no wonder our fps take a massive hit online, where there is a lot of activity around us. Feels like many, if not most of the planes arent very optimized. I know chopping polygons is like ripping the limbs of your children, but this is just too much. For an object just 500 meters away, a couple of thousand polygons is more than enough. Cant make out any detail at that distance, no matter your resolution. See the two attached images for judging the distance. - Jack of many DCS modules, master of none. - Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS. | Windows 11 | i5-12400 | 64Gb DDR4 | RTX 3080 | 2x M.2 | 27" 1440p | Rift CV1 | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind pedals |
FalconPlot16 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 same here i never spawn in kobuleti kutaisi and novo airports i got very bad performance drops in there other airports are fine 40-60 fps
uri_ba Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 For me it happens regardless of aircraft on the ramp. But you guys actually conferming my suspicion it's a LOD switching problem. I wasn't sure if it's buildings or static objects :) Thanks guys... ED folks, can we haz a more aggressive LOD distance switching in VR (at least)? Jacks Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I have huge issues in non-VR around airports and large towns. The FPS drops like a stone and everything is jerky. In fact this problem has meant I haven't played DCS in nearly 6 weeks........ In fact this problem has meant I haven't played DCS in nearly 6 weeks........ I'm still in the same boat brother, and whats worse is that a few days ago It was back to 60FPS like its always been then the FPS went back to s@%#, This is beyond frustrating and I feel I have done every reasonable thing within my power and nothing works....even on everything low and/or turned off the FPS drop in the same places and to the same amount of FPS 30-15 out of seemingly nowhere. My old settings that got me rock solid 60fps now get me 60 down to 15. I know my PC is int exactly a beast but people with i7s and GTX 1070/1080s seem to have as similar problem.
