  1. The Soviet intervention in Afghanistan lasted from December 25, 1979 to February 15, 1989. It was a period of intensive use of Mi-24 helicopters of various versions. The initial successes and basically unrestricted operation of helicopters in Afghanistan became the basis for this story driven campaign. However, the situation began to change halfway through the Soviet intervention. The campaign tells the story of the crew of helicopter Mi-24P number "17" - Alexander Sokolov (Pilot Commander) and Boris Petrovich (CoPilot-Gunner), who began serving in Afghanistan, Jalalabad AFB in 1984 and the first operation they encountered here was "Operation Panjshir" against the mujahideen forces of Ahmad Shah Masud. The campaign consists of 18 missions but it's not only "set of missions". It's a trip to the 1980s, and one of the most important cases for me was to capture the atmosphere of those years of flying the Mi-24 among the Hindu Kush mountains. Importantly, I have tried to include all possible tasks in which the Soviet Hinds actually participated during this war. So there will be close support missions, there will be search missions, there will be assault missions, bombing missions, transport missions, escort etc. The range of activities is quite wide. I rate the campaign as medium difficult, but you need to know the Hind systems and weapons quite well. The campaign uses the DCS: Persian Gulf map. All speeches are in Russian to raise the level of realism (the translation text is in English). And here is another kind of “revolution” - the whole voice pack were recorded using “AI voices”. It has its advantages and disadvantages for sure, but it's better that they exist, right? I think the final effect I achieved is quite ok (play: example). A quite important element is the entire soundtrack as well, which comes from this period and consists mainly of Soviet songs from Afghan war. It's also worth adding that the campaign received, previously unpublished, own liveries for the Hind - a clover, desert pattern. The campaign is being tested by several users during beta process (including Mi-24V crew member who was flying in Afghanistan). The most important features: over dozen single player missions (lasting from 45 minutes to 2 hours gameplay of each), realistic, detailed scenarios, story driven campaign, proceeding the campaigns as a pilot-commander (no knowledge of the CPG position is required, apart from issuing orders) full voice package in Russian (almost a thousand voice overs), even Petrovich received his role (!), briefings/subtitles in English, various types of missions, including night ones, dedicated skins from period of Afghan war, as real as it gets - cold starts only, you also need to return to the airport after the mission, prepared briefings (description of the situation and tasks), full documentation, graphics and photos most important data in the pilot's kneeboard, summary (including tips and tricks) in the readme file, check it before the flight ;)! FPS friendly (tested in VR too), the campaign "Afghan War: Szatan Arba" is free, the campaign is planned for release in December this year (2023) The campaign is currently in the final stages of production, polishing and testing. Importantly, it will be free, I treat it as my testing ground and also to collect your opinions. If you like my approach, who knows, I have a lot of ideas for the future ;). Note: although the campaign is based on historical events, it of course includes own scenarios. I would also like to add that English is not my native language but I did my best. These are thousands of words! This campaign will be my debut in this topic (campaign thread), but I hope that Hind's & DCS fans will like both - the idea and realization. FAQ. What I need to know before to play this campaign? the basis is knowledge of Hind systems and radios/radio navigations (R-863, R-828, R-852), operating the DISS-15 Doppler System, knowledge how to use all weapons used by Mi-24P from the pilot station, communication management with the flight/wingman (by DCS radio com), management and giving orders Petrovich (by CPG menu), ability to land in casual terrain you need to have DCS: Persian Gulf map and Mi-24P module Can I play this campaign in multiplayer mode? sorry but not, the campaign was created as an Single Player version and due to the number of changes and logic in the missions, it would basically have to be reworked by 50% What do you recommend learning before starting a campaign? Chuck’s guide for Mi-24P is very ok for this (+ training missions in DCS) See you soon for more info! Stay tunned. YoYo More preview screenshots from Szatan Arba campaign: https://photos.app.goo.gl/QE6re75gocHzH5hC8 ⚠ DOWNLOAD LINK ⚠: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3335179/ version 1.0 (12/2023). Please read manual before flying. Support / questions: You can ask any questions or support in this topic. If there is a question about the plot, do not reveal it in a unhidden post, use the "spoiler" option: so that people who haven't completed this mission will have more fun.
  2. Hi... I think I've seen an Mi-24P which has complete black cockpit if I'm not wrong, in Goggle Images. So, not to waste my all Sunday, I have prepared a mod about that. I hope you'll enjoy. Thank you. DOWNLOAD: DCS: Mi-24P Gray (Panels) Cockpit Mod v1.2 (02/2023)
  3. let me start with a few kind words toward the Mi-24, i love the Mi-24 module, i was an early adopter (pre-ordering it) and its probably the aircraft ive flown the most, i know it is the helicopter ive flown the most, Petrovitch is a lovely co-pilot and is quite helpful in combat and with a decent enough selection of weapons it makes the Mi-24 quite effective against most targets . . . but it could be better, so here are the things that i think are missing and Wishlist of things that should be added most of the following requires no elaboration, when i feel its needed i will put it in (parentheses), and if something is a joke it will be in italics first we will start with the fixes 1- Copilot-gunner multicrew jitteriness (when i enable the CPG's body he jitters alot like the animations are broken and when i move the stick his hand doesn't move with it nor does the check watch animation work) 2-external pilot head movement animations sometimes break (some times the pilots head will just be fixed looking down and to the left, i have experienced this while with a MC CPG and i was in the pilots seat) 2nd, onto the missing features (where did they go?) 1- working cargo bay lights (the switch in the cockpit does nothing both in blue and white modes) 2- working helmet visors (when you lower the helmet visor it should have some level of sunglasses effect so you can fly into the sun without it blinding you) 3-Air to ground mode for the R-60M's 4- the ability to "eject", to jump out of the hind 5- full manual (im sure it will come on release, but i am just noteing it here so its not forgotten) as for the updates, there is one in particular 1- better/more accurate blade tip lights, (i dont know what they look like irl, but in photos they look a lot more like 1 long round streak than the 5 individual lights) now for my favourite section, the Reasonable Wishlist of features, (most of these are also on my fellow hind pilots wish lists and most aren't out of the realm of possibility) 1- reduced loadout ATGM's (having one ATGM per rack on each side, some one who is assumed to be an Mi-24 dev said that they wont waste time on "exotic loadout's" but this is both bad reasoning, and untrue, its not hard to find picture's and videos from Afghanistan and Syria where Mi-24's are carrying only 2 ATGM's one on each side, it is a historic and common loadout and something i have many photos of, the apache has reduced hellfire's, there is no reason the Mi-24 shouldn't) 2- reduced loadout S-8 rockets, (i have been informed that in certain higher altitude parts of Afghanistan Mi-24's flew with only half filled S-8, pods 10 rockets per side, due to MTOW limitations) 3- ability to rotate the Pilot and CPG fans side-to-side (the brackets they are mounted on allow for this movement, along with translational movement, and in the front seat when you line up the gunsight with the bore sight the gunsight and cockpit fan physically conflict with one another, the blades clipping though part of the CPG's gunsight, this would also mean it wouldn't get in your way so much) 4- the ability to remove the PZU (PyleZashchitnoe Ustroystvo) dust filters (i have no idea if this would effect engine performance, intuition tells me it would only slightly, and it would allow the engines to be damaged by dust, the main reason i ask for it is because it looks cool and there are many photos of Mi-24P flying in Russia without PZU even in modern times) 5- PKT/RPK/AK-74 door gunner options with 1985 period correct clothing (PKT, RPK and AK-74 are all more historically accurate to the Mi-24 than the Kord (time wise the Mi-24P came out in 1981 and the Kord in 1998), as well as the PKT, RPK and AK-74 would allow Hind crews to not only carry more rounds of ammunition for the same weight and space in the cargo bay as well as it would allow Hind crews to have Door gunners on both sides at the same time, meaning the door gunners would be more effective against infantry and light targets (wider angles of fire), also as the PKT, PKM and AK-74 fire off the window mounts it would mean that the crew in the cargo bay would be more protected) (period correct kits for the older guns would be nice instead of modern 6B Ratnik kit (2013) on the Kord gunner) 6- remove the door gunner payload and artificial angle limitations (there is no reason i shouldn't be able to load GUV-8700 or Rocket pods on the in-board pylons while having door gunners, just dont shoot at your own weapons and you still have a large angle of fire, around where the pylon mounted weapon is, also the Mi-24's Kord gun mounts get artificially restricted when you load weapons on the wings, it doesn't just stop you from aiming the Kord at the weapons but also at the ground and sky below and above the pylon mounted weapons, effectively stopping you from aiming rearward) 7- Kord PSO scope (as it seem the Kord isnt going any where, nor should it, i think we should get a PSO scope option as door gunners commonly use PSO's on helo door guns, the mount is already modelled on the Kord in game and it would help on getting those long range shots) 8- P-50T Bomb (they are a training bomb, pretty useless in combat but can be used to mark targets and train bombing with, i think they would be cool to have and wouldn't be much effort to add.) now for the less reasonable but still possible features that would make the Hind feel more alive and add to immersion 1- Soviet Field binoculars for the Pilot and CPG (so they can spot targets at longer ranges, just a simple 3d model of a binocular case in the cockpit, click on it and boom you have bino's up at your face like the NVG's so you can see father out) 2- CPG able to use AK-74U out the window/hatch (seems the Kiowa is getting it, it doesn't seem that far out of the realm of possibility, it wouldn't add that much but it would add some great laughs when flying with friends) 3- 3D NS-430 for the front and/or rear seat (potentially as a payed addon like the rest of the 3D NS-430's, it would be a nice to have for post 2001 afghan flying (ANA got its Mi-24's around the same time the NS-430 was produced AFAIK)) 4- CPG kneeboard map and E6-B Pilot Flight Computer / Soviet Equivalent (it would be nice to give the CPG more to do, so i say give him a slide rule and a map, and make him navigate though the valleys and passes of Afghanistan) Now for a few Pics explaining some of the things i mentioned in the above image we can see the window mounts for the PKV/RPK/AK-74 door guns, it would be lovely to have a door gunner on each side at the same time, also you can see one of the dome lights i mentioned on the roof the above 2 images are examples of 1 ATGM being carried on each side, the top image is in Syria and the bottom image is in Afghanistan (i have many more images and you can find many more with a simple search, in the image above you can see a Mi-24P (i think) with out PZU's, looks lame doesn't it. in the above image you can see a Mi-8 with the blade tip lights turned on (i couldn't find a pic of the Mi-24 with the incandescent), instead of being short separate 5 lights the lights should be a solid disk in the above image we can see a Mi-24 armed with P-50T's in the above image you can see the CPG fan conflicting with the window glass and the gunsight. in the above images we can see PKV door guns on the hind, these would be a lovely addition especially if we can get one on each side allowing us to fly through afghan valley's and shoot out of booth sides at insurgents at the same time, also it would allow us to carry a larger number of bullets so we would have longer durations of fire from the door guns making them more effective even if the rounds have lower/no explosive mass and less range in final, i think that is all, i might have forgot something, if you want more evidence of Mi-24's carrying one ATGM each side i have many photos and some videos ill happily provide in comment's, and if any one wants and extra detail about anything ill be happy to help, right, now off to fly the Mi-24 with a friend (an honourable mention, the L-166V, adlest having an option to show the physical thing with the cover over it for those sweet sweet soviet-afghan and UN screenshots and Missions)
  4. This is a tribute to one of the greatest artists to have ever lived, he is solely responsible for comic books and manga art, literally hundreds of years before anyone else. This is going to be tricky to line up but the bulk of the work is done, I expect to finish this before NYE.
  5. Attached is a link to a Description and Usage Guide for the DISS-15 by couple of GUY's that i translated, it has some interesting info on how to integrate Radio and Doppler Navigation. and use them together for complicated flights where one of the systems is insufficient for correct Navigation. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1H_CmM3D8N1kXuQgGZemPBjSjJmgKrwfw/view?usp=sharing the original post on DCS World User Files is here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3328257/
  6. I would like to bring the attention to a visual bug regarding the Mi-24 rotor head animation in combination with the Motion Blur effect enabled. With the motion blur enabled, the rotor head just kind of disappears. Actually, that is not completely accurate. To put it more precisely, with the motion blur enabled AND actually affecting the background, then the rotor head disappears. That would be the screenshot "mi-24-blur-bug" taken during a dynamic flyby. The second screenshot - "mi-24-noblur-nobug" was taken in a paused state. The motion blur was still on, but did not affect the image, because it was a still image in a paused state (I hope I am making myself clear). The third screenshot, the "Mi-8-blur-nobug" is just a comparison with a different module, which is not affected by this bug. I assume the reason is that the Mi-8 module still uses the older rotor animation technology. Obviously, this is nothing major, but hopefully will be addressed after more important issues with the 2.9 have been resolved. Best Regards, Phil
  7. Mi-24P update 3D model is not at the state when we are ready to flash it to tease you yet. We've finished modelling of hover, takeoff and general performance in the air of this helicopter. Currently team is working on Mi-24P crew AI. Mi-24P crew AI will be available as pilot or as gunner. We are aiming to implement control over AI functionality with help of AI GUI which will allow you to use only 4 buttons to give AI specific commands regarding: Heading Speed ALtitude Maneuvers Hover menu Target choice Also we are working on AI crew targets detection logic. It will not be just all-seeing AI copilot/gunner, as you can see on pics below, AI behaviour will not be simplistic and during spotting its being modelled to mimic real pilots training logic for spotting targets. Things like distance, angle and illumination will be taken into account among many others. Bye Phant
  8. As The UpDate is now live when are we gonna be able to download and play the hind as it won't let me install it as does not show up on the model page in game. ??
  9. Despite facing strong resistance from Afghan rebels, the Mi-24 proved to be very destructive. The rebels called the Mi-24 "Shaitan-Arba" (Satan's Chariot)". In one case, an Mi-24 pilot who was out of ammunition managed to rescue a company of infantry by maneuvering aggressively towards Mujahideen guerrillas and scaring them off." Any chance the AI could be developed in a way where infantry could actually become scared of approaching aircraft and attempt to find cover or even run away if morale is too low? I know Total War has morale statistics, but why not DCS as well! Also, it was found that during the Afghanistan-Soviet war, extra rounds of rocket ammunition were often carried internally in Mi-24's so that the crew could land and self-reload in the field. Will this be a possibility in the future?
  10. When I load up Mi-24 Caucasus firing range in Instant Action I am unable to use Petrovich at all except for simple "activate weapon controls" keybind. It works in multiplayer no problem but it just does not activate in singleplayer, and neither does he take over pilot controls from me when I swap to co-pilot's seat. Anyone know how I can fix this?
  11. Hi Everyone, I disabled the auto-handoff for Petrovich in the miscellaneous settings for the Mi-24P. I did this because I found he likes plunging the helicopter into the ground, whenever I'm flying low, either by dumping the collective and not recovering but also by putting the helicopter into VRS - he doesn't seem to be particularly graceful with the controls. The problem is that now he's completely inaccessible from the front seat, though he is still accessible in the rear seat. How I thought it would've worked is instead of Petrovich taking over immediately and automatically when you jump into the front seat, the controls would be in your hands until you bring up and set-up the Petrovich HSI/menu, at which point he takes over (though gets interrupted if you move the controls yourself). However, now I can't bring the menu up at all.
  12. Hi, after some time playing on the weapon operator seat, I am not able to fire ATGM from pylons 5-8, usually when you select any pylon from station 1-4 you hear the ready to launch tone, but nothing happens when stations 5-8 are selected. UPDATE: when carrying only the ATGM there is no problem, things go wrong when carrying MG pods combined with ATGM, maybe it is bugged
  13. Hello, I was wondering if the Hind will get 2-player multicrew for pilot and co-pilot, or 3-player multicrew since in the future we will be getting a KORD door gunner with 12.7mm machine gun. Could a third person be here on this gunner position since neither the pilot nor the co-pilot can leave to get into the back gunner from their position, or will it be an AI who will be using this door gunnery position? Thank you!
  14. I figure this would be good for the red air and modern blue pilots
  15. Any chance we could get either night vision goggles or a night Mi-24 Hind variant so we can use it during the night time? Thanks.
  16. Hello, I have preordered your Mi-24P and have flown it out a bit but I am having some issues when it comes to landing and hovering. Often I will begin to rapidly drop out of the sky without even knowing I was close to entering VRS. The issue is not with me dropping out of the sky. I know why and how to prevent it. The issue is that I have no feedback or shaking when I am about to do so. When I fly the Mi-8, the helicopter shakes a bit when I am close or when transitioning to a hover. The Mi-24P has no shaking whatsoever, almost like I am gliding, entirely weightless. I understand that the Mi-24 didn't give that much feedback when going into VRS unlike the Mi-8, but there should be at least a tiny bit of shaking as opposed to nothing at all. Please I hope you consider adding at least a tiny bit of shaking on-screen with Track-IR and possibly VR to make it as realistic as possible to a real Mi-24 which would also help me control and land the helicopter. Thank you.
  17. I attempt to clear a crash issue with switching to co-pilot. So, I uninstall, clear up the Mi-24P directory under both Mods and CoreMods. The I reinstall the module again. I find there is the module entry in "Instant Action", when I click on a mission, I do not see myself inside the Hind. I notice that also in the ME, the Mi-24P is no longer listed. Very strange. I think I need to do a clean and repair. Oh, I am in the latest OB.
  18. Blindsided : 5th revision (v6.0.5.0) Original release in 2012, a decade of getting 'Blindsided'! Updated for modern DCS, now fully voice acted and re-scripted with a new twist or two! Mission download here! Co-operative mission supporting up to: 46 player slots (2-6 players recommended default, 3-12 on difficult). Flyable aircraft: CAS (Air to ground) - 2x A-10C (Old), 3x A-10C II, 3x AH-64D, 2x AV-8B, 3x F-16, 3x F/A-18, 2x JF-17, 3x KA-50, 3x Mi-24P, 3x Su-25T CAP (Air to air) - 2x F-14B, 2x F-15C, 3x F-16, 3x F-18, 3x MiG-29, 2x M2000C CSAR (Search and rescue) - 2x Mi-8MTV, 2x UH-1H [Briefing room] We have not received any word back from the eastern patrol, since they reported hearing heavy vehicles in the pass. We can only assume the worst. Twenty minutes ago we received confirmation that insurgent forces are attempting a surprise attack on the Batumi aerodrome. Be advised we have received reports that the insurgents are able to mount a credible anti-air threat, furthermore there are indications they may have the support of unknown airforces. US Specops are right now sending ahead a two man TACP unit, designation 'Ferret', to provide coordination for a counter attack on an insurgent outpost located due east. Before we can rid ourselves of the outpost though, we must succesfully defend Batumi from the insurgent forces closing in. Be aware that we are facing at least two groups heading in from the outpost. Local defense forces are engaged with light enemy units as I speak. Your aircraft have been fueled and armed, there is no time to waste, scramble! Aimed at: Pilots reasonably comfortable with combat tasks and start up, moderate difficulty level. Pilots up for more challenge can enable higher difficulty at the beginning of the mission (Radio options, F10 Other). Featuring: * Co-op and single player support. Note: Difficulty higher for single player. * Plenty of scripted events with radio traffic and detailing. Fully voice acted! * Combined operations of air to ground and air to air aircraft, all playing important but not interdependent roles (Set higher difficulty for best effect). * Adapting mission design: Air to ground, air to air and combat search and rescue operations are each an optional component of the mission. All you need to do is fly the right aircraft and the mission commences. * Dynamically generated randomized air to air threats for the entire duration of the mission. You can't be sure where the enemy air assets will strike from. * Dynamically generated CSAR rescue operations for both stranded aircrews and vehicle crews. * Up-to-date tasking can be requested even if a player enters the mission in the middle of it. No more guessing what state the mission is in. * Choice of two difficulty levels. * Some more aggressive, scripted AI behaviour. * Some munitions restricted through the warehouse functionality for a proper challenge. * On the move troop deployments. * Airlifted JTAC available (but not necessary) for operations against the insurgent outpost. * Optional AFAC available for the defense phase of the mission. * Adapt to rapidly developing situations as you fight an enemy that fights back rather than passively waiting for you to attack. * Be a part of a team where your actions truly matter to the outcome of the mission. License: Freeware, distribution allowed as is with all files and attributions intact. All rights otherwise reserved, unless specifically agreed upon. (It's ok to ask.) Mission download here!
  19. Dear ED! Thank you for the Hind, loving it. However, would it be possible to add the possibility to put an airshow smoke possibility to the outermost pylons, please? It would realistic, since irl some Hinds had it during airshows. It would make it perfect for an airshow demo! Thanks in advance!
  20. Hello, even though it's a little late, I wanted to send it to the forum. 21. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3330662/ I wanted to do it for a long time, but I couldn't do it because it was very difficult to make the mouth part, but I finished it anyway. When Mi-24P was also used in Azerbaijan, some helicopters had nose art and helicopters were using old roundel. I can't share some pictures, but I can present you the pictures I found on the internet. Pictures by Torfaen Corvine. Mi-24 HIND E I put the number 115 of Mi 24V as static because there is no information about the tail number of the old Mi-24P. Mi-24F The livery has dynamic bort. If you want to make it static, you can download it from the link below.Dynamic and Static Bort https://drive.google.com/file/d/13xWTmkidHYI6t_T-eofrjZs7n5vivRHe/view?usp=sharing (WIP Version) I will add more versions soon
