  1. This started with 2.9 MT for me. Before it did not matter how close the other aircraft were. In my case its just fly bys. But its also when chasing aircraft which makes aiming difficult. Its in multiplayer only. In SP this issue is not happening. And its not only if the opponent is an F16. Its for all aircraft. So its not a LOD thing of the F16 specifically. See the CPU graph of fpsVR. You see when the bandit comes close the CPU graph shows spikes that translate directly to the GPU, causing stutters. It is on a multiplayer server, in the 1vs1 arena with only 2 aircraft in the area. Also it was morning, and just 3 or 4 players in total on the server that time. I tried to disable Core Parking in the registry, that made it even worse, although I could not directly compare due to the nature of multiplayer sessions. Seems to be a Multithread issue. See the same test with ST in the follow up post.   2. I started this topic to track and discuss my challenges with getting the best performance out of my system. I run DCS in windowed mode and run OBS on the side. My setup Windows 10 - latest version RTX 4090, no overclocking X570 Aorus Master Ryzen 7 5800x3D, no overclocking 64GB RAM Varjo Aero Reverb G2 v1.0. Mixed Reality: best quality, 90Hz. SSD for DCS and Windows, separated Configuration Rebar enabled XMP Memory Profile Hyperthreading OFF -> update 2023-07-24 testing at the moment DCS Latest OB version 32GB Pagefile Game mode OFF Game Bar OFF Windows registry Holographic PreallocateVirtualMonitors set to 0 Windows Holographic Shell Stopped ("Go to Computer Management → System Tools → Performance → Data Collector Sets → Event Trace Sessions. In this list, find HolographicShell, right click, and choose ‘Stop’.) Windows Power Management Stopped Windows Graphics performance for DCS set to High Performance. Variable refresh rate ON HAGS OFF Nvidia Control Panel: see screenshot OBS: No render lag and no encoder lag. See screenshot for settings. Update 24-7-2024 configured to use the GPU's NVENC HEVC encoder. DCS: see screenshot Process Lasso, currently no CPU affinity set. DCS and OBS have both High priority. Edit 7-1-2023: Tried it but did not notice difference, so reverted back. OpenXR-Toolkit: Disabled CAS Sharpening (Don't need it). OpenXR-Toolkit: Switched Motion Reprojection to automatic. (sometimes my FPS drop too low and then I would like for Reprojection to kick in). Edit 7-1-2023: Edmuss told me this does not work for DCS. So keep Reprojection OFF.
  3. Hey guys, I am trying to get DCS running while with my Quest 3. After watching a handful of videos, it seems that using OpenXR is the best way to run VR, especially the Quest 3. After initial setup, I was able to get the game setup and running well with OpenXR, however, the game now crashes everytime I try to launch with OpenXR. I am using the MT launcher with the following in the Target: --force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR I will post the files from my most recent crash. One interesting note, it doesn't always crash if I launch DCS thru the oculus software. However, I then don't have access to the OpenXR tools in game. Also, I did find some threads discussing crashes on startup in VR, and they solved it by changing the Paging File Size. I did try that, did not work for me.   4. I am playing fine with the single thread. But when i open the game from bin-mt folder after a while game crashes without error code or anything. I am not using vr.
  5. Hi, Do you have idea why HT should be OFF (32+ threads)? What negative symptoms would be for 32+ threads? I never did it on my spec, where is it disabled in BIOS?
  6. Looks like they not tested default "system" for VR, so SteamVR. No any info in "known issues" about that MT version doesnt work with SteamVR. They tested only OpenXR? Any idea about SteamVR?
  7. I am using pico 4 with virtual desktop and openxr toolkit and am having consistent crashes when trying to use MT and sometimes with ST. I had some similar issues with a rift s but less frequent. I have deleted shaders etc several times and have done a slow repair. I have also tried running with and without "force VR" etc., and through "injecting" the game in VD.   8. As the title says I believe I am having an issue where the resolution of my monitor is affecting DCS in VR. Currently Running 4080, 5900X and Q2 @ 90hz at 1.7 in the Oculus software. no issue with settings or performance up to as close as yesterday where I played MP for close to 2 hours. Steps I have taken to try ammend are as follows: -Cleaned and repaired DCS -Disabled and removed all mods -Ran DCS with and without OTT profile - no difference -Ran DCS with and without OpenXR toolkit enabled - no difference -Restarted all software and PC aswell as quest 2 -As you can see in the first 2 Images that while in the menu it works perfectly but as soon as I load into an instant action on any aircraft all I get is this window which Varies in size in what seems to be based on my Desktop resolution. -As can be seen when I run DCS using OTT with the profile neabled to set desktop resolution to 800x600 the box in the headset becomes even smaller again -Finally in the Third Image we can see that when DCS is Run in VR in the Single Thread Client it works just fine If anyone is having similar issues or knows how to fix this would be greatly appreciated If any more information is needed please let me know Thanks in Advance Rodeo/ Cormac **Edit** - After swithcing my PC off for a few hours the problem seems to have corrected itself. dcs.log
  9. Hey! I have an Index and a Quest 2. I usually play DCS in my Index. Using the regular Beta client, this still works absolutely fine. However, if I try and set the MT version to launch in VR mode, it completely refuses to open in Steam VR on my Index. Instead it keeps opening Oculus Home (even though my Quest isn't plugged in or turned on) and the game still just keeps running in 2D. If I plug in my Quest 2 and turn it on, it will happily launch right into the Quest in VR mode but I'd much rather use my Index (comfort and FoV). I saw some comments about Skate zilla's tool (which I'd never heard of until now) but alas, that isn't helping me either as it appears you choose a build by selecting the parent folder for the build, rather than the bin folder containing the .exe. I also tried opening Steam VR first, then launching the MT client, to no avail. Does anyone know a workaround for this? It's super challenging even googling for help on this as the search terms are always so broad. Thanks. Ps. I'm an absolute novice with DCS - I only play it every now and then so go easy on me with the nomenclature. I'll likely need help with context if there are any super technical answers.   10. Reposting in correct sub-forum Subject ^^ Multithread, Reverb G2 and current OB version. Works as intended in non-VR, not MT. Have not tested in non-VR MT.
  11. So I have an 11700F in a pre built pc (judge away) been fighting bugs in DCS VR since inception but finally got the base game (I play on standalone and mostly pve on base maps). Downloaded multithread beta and did some testing with tracks between MT and OG style threading. On MT, with the in game FPS counter, it says it's CPU capped, however, I get no bottleneck notifier in single thread. Frame difference between the two is 3-5FPS but inconsistently. Any ideas other than a new CPU and MOBO??? Full specs in comments- help me find the missing frames please!!! I did some additional testing unfortunately im not smart enough to track logs or explain this but I'll try. Capped at 45fps in Quest software, I can consistently get 35-40fps in Single thread by turning basically everything down to low and a couple items to medium. However, same exact settings in MT, I still get wild fluctuations from 22fps to mayyyybe 32 was the highest I saw. The only explanation I have for this is that my single thread game is installed to the nvme and multithread beta is installed on an external USB 3.0 ssd. I MAY have answered my own question but im coming to the pros seeking advice and correction if I haven't. I'm not looking for wild 120fps on the oculus, just a good balance of being able to read DDIs and go from being heads down in the cockpit to heads up without frame drop or hitching that causes me to miss things. My tests were done using a low level track about 60sec long on an empty caucuses map in the F18, and similar results were duplicated in the uh1h.   12. System R9 5900x CPU, 64gb (4x16gb) 3600 DDR4 Mem, RTX3080(10gb) GPU, Valve index VR. DCS and OS run on a 2tb Samsung 980 pro M.2 PCIex4Gen4 (with new - Not Bugged - firmware). Before 2.8.3.37556 In VR I pulled about 40-60 FPS depending on DCS and VR Settings (Low details 120hz or Medium Details 90hz). Getting DCS to run with 2.8.3.37556 was a Pain it took several tries to get out of the menu screen into both Single player and multiplayer. More often then not DCS would stop responding. After several tries it finally started getting into multi-player however my Frame Rates where about 25-35 FPS at low settings sometimes dropping down to around 10-15 fps. After 2.8.3.37556 and a slow repair In VR I seem to be locked at 30-40 FPS regardless of settings. On the bright side I can almost max out most the settings and I still get 30fps in VR in an AH64 in Multi-player. this using both the --force_enable_VR and --force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR switches. I can in some situations drop down to 25fps. I do get some screen tearing, this could be due being stuck at 40fps when running VR at 90/45hz or 120/60hhz I won't even bother running it at 144hz. I have a moire effect when looking at some parking/ground textures. A slight occasional flicker. However when I exit the game or bring up the Index/Steam Vr menu in VR I get a horrible flickering for several seconds specially at higher refresh raters (120hz, and 144hz). I also have an occasional Stutter and I have controller polling on so I need to turn it off and see if the occasional stutter goes away. on rare occasions like once an hour or more I get a half a second game freeze. This could be due to lag spikes in multi-player. Running the game normally (non MT) is far far worse even with my original pre-MT settings. I'm back to 25-35 FPS at low settings sometimes dropping down to around 10-15 fps. I also have a new bug where about half of the in-game labels only show in one eye in VR. Again this is in Single thread. I had to take off my VR to get a cap of the Steam VR App window So it says standing by but the frame time is the same. Предположительно, количество багов связанных с MT будет заметным в первое время, следует ли мне сообщать о них обычным образом, или писать в специальной ветке. Сообщайте об ошибках обычным образом в предназначенной для этого ветке на форуме по найденным ошибкам, только обязательно помечайте в теме, что замеченный баг относится к "MT"! Известные проблемы MT на момент первичного выпуска в тестирование. Навигатор NS430 не функционирует. Проблемы с экспортом изображений на внешние мониторы. DCS не стартует на системах с процессором имеющим 32 и более потоков (16 P-ядер). Возможны периодические подтормаживания (stuttering). Цветной дисплей ИТ-23 на Ка-50. Supercarrier. Жезлы регулировщиков и стоп линии не видны. Supercarrier: Изображение на мониторе LSO может отсутствовать. Проблемы с изображением на некоторых устройствах VR. Выделенный сервер не стартует автоматически после обновления. Необходимо запускать вручную. При первом запуске возможны искажения текстур в кабине. Возможно, что у вас очень производительной процессор и вы запускаете несложную миссию – в этом случае, ваш процессор и без MT прекрасно справляется с задачей, и у вас почти не будет разницы. Однако если вы заметили, что не получили разницы в производительности в насыщенных миссиях напишите об этом на форуме, приложив dcs.log, информацию dxdiag, и игровые треки в специализированной ветке форума по производительности или тут.
  15. DCS Multithreading F.A.Q Users who want to test the new multithreading version of DCS can do so by following the steps described below. Multithreading contains some known issues, but we will gladly receive reports. Please make reports as full and clear as possible that are reproducible. Also, please send crash information using the automatic send-crash tool, if possible. Launching Multithreading DCS For the standalone version from our eShop DCS: You can find the new folder "bin-mt" in your DCS / DCS Open Beta main root folder where you have installed DCS. i.e. "D:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\". To launch the multithreading version, navigate to the "bin-mt" folder and launch DCS.exe from it. i.e. "D:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin-mt\DCS.exe". For your convenience, you may want to create a shortcut for "D:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin-mt\DCS.exe" on your desktop. Be advised that the DCS launch shortcut that is automatically created on your desktop after DCS installation will launch the DCS updater from i.e. "D:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe". You may have gotten used to the process where you launch DCS and it checks for available updates before launching the game. If you make a shortcut for the multithreading version (i.e. "D:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin-mt\DCS.exe") then this shortcut will launch DCS, and it will not check for updates before launching the game. For STEAM users: Use the Play MT Preview in launch options. To do so, right click on DCS World Steam Edition in Steam and select PLAY; you should see the below pop-up. What is multithreading (MT)? MT is a programming technique that allows multiple threads to exist within the context of a single process. A thread is an independent path of execution within a program, and MT allows a program to perform multiple tasks concurrently, improving its performance and responsiveness. However, MT also introduces some complexities, such as thread synchronization and resource sharing, which must be carefully managed to avoid issues such as race conditions and deadlocks. Why am I seeing no to little performance gain? There are several reasons that could account for this. One of the most common reasons for lower-than-expected performance gains is being GPU limited. Whereas MT can greatly improve CPU efficiency and resulting performance, most of the graphical rendering elements are still reliant on the graphics card. To check this, play a mission and press Right Control + Pause at the same time to display your performance Frame Per Second (FPS) and rendering information. If it indicated GPU BOUND, your graphics card is holding back the maximum possible frame rate that the CPU can provide. MT is most effective in large missions with many units. In small missions with a limited number of units, CPU calculations are not a gating performance limit. As such, you may not see much of an MT performance gain in small missions. Older CPUs will not benefit as much from MT as more modern CPUs with a greater number of cores/threads. Please be sure that you are using the current Open Beta and that you are using the DCS.exe from the Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin-mt\ folder if using the standalone version. Controls HOG PLUG is enabled. Please ensure that that HOT PLUG is disabled from OPTION / CONTROLS tab. You may not have appropriate BIOS setting for your CPU. If you have 32 or less cores, please ensure that HT/SMT is enabled. If you 33 or more cores, please disable this. If you have Vsync enabled in OPTIONS/SYSTM, uncheck the box Are there any known issues that I should be aware of? As an initial test version, yes. NS430 inoperable. As MT is a complex addition to DCS, we have made it optional for initial public testing. Once fully tested and working well, it will be enabled by default. How long will MT be in preview? It depends on public test results and feedback; we will keep you all informed as things develop. What is the maximum number of threads the game can utilize? About half of P-cores are dedicated for the graphics needs. Currently the rendering pool scales up to 16 threads on P-cores (1 core = 2 threads). The other P-cores are used by the main logic thread, sound engine threads, and the auxiliary thread pool that occupy all available space. E-cores are used only by the resources streaming pool that has no limits (1 core = 1 thread). Will VR and flatscreen have an equal performance improvement? MT is agnostic between a 2D monitor and VR. Both will see the same proportion of improvement. Note that VR is in general more demanding so you will see lower FPS than flatscreen performance given the higher rendering overhead. Will performance be improved for people currently bottlenecked by their GPU? MT may not help with performance if you have a GPU bottleneck. This is because the GPU is responsible for rendering and processing graphics, and it operates independently of the CPU. So MT may not directly improve GPU performance, but it can help to improve overall application performance by offloading non-GPU related tasks to separate CPU threads. Are there any downsides to MT if I have a CPU with few cores (Like an old quad core)? While MT can improve performance on a CPU with multiple cores, it may not provide significant benefits on a CPU with few cores. In fact, it could even lead to decreased performance in some cases. Will the dedicated server also be multithreading? Currently, the dedicated server is ST. MT dedicated server should behave exactly like ST one including performance because the game logic is still running on a single thread. If you have issues with performance or anything else, please make detailed reports for us to review. Will I be able to play on MT servers/large missions that I couldn't before? You should see improvement in larger missions, but mission designers should still consider unit count in any mission they create. Overloading a multiplayer mission with units will result in loss of performance. Will MT and Single Thread (ST) be updated separately or updated at the same time? You can update DCS in the usual way. Can MT and ST clients join the same server? Yes, MT and ST users can play on the same server. Should I enable HT / SMT in my motherboard BIOS? Currently, users with more than 32 threads should disable HT/SMT, but for everyone else we recommend enabling HT/SMT. Can I expect more bugs with MT, and can they be reported the same way or do I need to do separate reports for MT and ST? MT is a very complex addition to DCS, we have done a lot of testing but you may see issues we have missed. If you do, please report them on the forum bugs section. When reporting issues, please make it clear that you are using multithreading by either by adding “MT” to the title or in the topic itself. I have not seen any improvement what can I do? If you are not seeing any improvement in performance, please make a forum post with your dcs.log dxdiag and a track replay example in the performance issues forum section. How can I launch VR in MT? Same way you do now but using the bin-mt/ dcs.exe with the added launch parameters. ( example "C:\DCS\bin-mt\DCS.exe" --force_enable_VR ) Steam users will have a MT VR option in the launch pop up. Or try starting in 2D and enabling VR in the DCS VR tab, then restarting DCS. Experiencing a crash on first launch of MT DCS? If anyone has an early crash when starting MT DCS and sees almost empty dcs.log file with/without the stack, it would be great to get additional CPU information from such user. 1. add mt.lua to Saved Games\DCS\Config\ mt.lua 2. launch DCS 3. provide Saved Games\DCS\Logs\dcs.log attached to forum post 4. remove mt.lua
  16. For some reason after the most recent mt. update when I load into a mission, single or multiplayer everything works fine until I hit “fly” to begin the mission and then dcs stops responding.   17. When I run DCS in VR in multithreading with reprojection disabled CPU frame time stays close to the refresh rate (around 16ms) no matter what I do (e.g. in the main menu). The moment I switch on reprojection CPU times go to expected 1-2 ms in the main menu. Is this intended behavior? It doesn't happen in single threaded version (CPU time always as expected no matter reprojection mode). 12700kf, 3080, reverb g2. The issue doesn't change with any other settings.
  18. I am experiencing the same symptoms as many others here (ie. I get less FPS with MT in VR and more FPS with MT Non-VR - Game Performance Bugs - ED Forums (dcs.world), seeing little to no effect from the MT-update. I've tried to troubleshoot but no positive results so far. -fxo and metashaders deleted after every update -Removed all mods in the "Saved games" folder and then repaired DCS. (i've installed some addons after that, but the repair was done withouth the addons) -VR MT=around 50-55 FPS -VR no MT= 45-50 FPS -2D MT= constant 180 stable -2D no MT= 160-180 Which missions are better to test the MT function?   19. I have been experiencing input delays of up to 4 seconds on my keyboard but only when TrackIR is active. This is an intermittent problem however it has existed before the latest Open Beta patch (DCS 2.8.3.37556) and is not module specific.   20. Hi all. I'm experiencing something puzzling that most other people I know aren't. Multithreaded exe looks a lot worse for me with same graphics settings. No antialiasing seem to be applied with lots of jaggies, and textures look a lot more low res, especially in the distance. Effects such as raindrop on canopy look pixelated. Changing settings/restarting didn't seem to help. Things look as good as they always did if I go back to non-MT exe.

  22. I noticed the Red dot with a '1' in it, over the Modules button at the top left of the main screen. There is nothing new for me to install.. I didn't expect there to be as I had not purchased anything recently. The Red dot does not show if I run the normal OB DCS.

  24. Hello, I have an i7 8700k and with MT I am getting lower frames than before with all aircraft in same settings. FPS indicators say CPU bottlenecking with around 20% of the cpu being utilized. This also occurs in the menus. I'm hearing similar reports from a few people in discord with similar processors. System specs i7 8700k, 3080, 64 gb ram
