Very long times at launch DCS and starting a mission

After upgrading my PC this summer I have installed DCS and A-10C ( a complete new buy as my precedent A-10C was a very early release and I preferres to have latest version to avoid problem ).

When I launch DCS it stay for 10 ( rarely ) to 14 ( often ) minutes with a black screen and windows seven loading cursor ( the little blu circle ).

Then when I launch a mission it stay in loading screen for 4 to 6 minutes.

Upgrading to the latest two versions 1.2.6 and 1.2.7 don't solve the problem.

Initially the problem was also present in the DCS World installation without A-10C and I have tried to disinstall it and then reinstall after cleaning the PC and registry windows. Also this don't solve the problem.

Consider that after the initial loading if I exit from DCS and then relaunch it, it start in 1-2 seconds and if I launch the mission it start in some seconds ( apparently more complex mission request more seconds and simply mission not however all start in less than a minute).

But at every Windows Seven restart all is forgotten and again it start in 10-14 minute and 6-4 minute for the mission. A total of 20 minute of wait

The only thing that seem to have some kind of effect is to launch the repair procedure before starting DCS ( Start/Eagle Dynamics/DCS world/repair DCS world ) and in this case DCS start in 3 to 5 minute, but launching the mission isn't influenced by this partial remedy and continue to start in 6-4 minute.

DCS worl is installed in a SSD hard disk ( AHCI enabled ).

My configuration is:

motherboard MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming

cpu Intel core I5-4570S ( Haswell)

hd 1 SSD OCZ vertex 3 120GB ( Windows Seven ultimate 64 bit )

hd 2 SAAT 1TB samsung (actually I don't remember the type ) with programs and some game in dedicated partition ( also FSX and X-plane 10 )

hd 3 SATA 2TB ( western digitalgreen) used like an archive ( video, photo, ecc )

The new SSD dedicated to flight simulation but for now only with DCS on it is a Samsung solid state disk 250GB Srie 840EVO

Ram Corsair XMS3 8GB DDR3 1600MHZ cl9

VGA Radeon HD6970 2GB

Audio Creative Soundblaster Z

A last thing rarely when I launch DCS it seems not to starting at all showing no HD activity and no black screen or something else, in this case I use ctrl+alt+canc to start task manager but when it appear soon DCS start ( with the long time waiting screen ) but if I don't launch task manager it sure don't start anyway ( I have tried to wait 20 minutes ).

Are you connected to the internet while experiencing slow start in DCSW?

Do you have USB devices plugged into your system? If so try unplugging all that you do not need. ie. printers, any gaming devices that are not used for DCS. and what HOTAS are you using?

1 Yes I am connected to Internet while launching ( I will try to disconnect and I will report result )

2 USB devices plugged when I start DCS: Logitech G940, Track IR.

3 All HD use the same type of port controller and DCS is installed on the new SSD as there is no space to try installing it in the default ( C: ) in wich there is Windows Seven.

I have tried also to disable AVG antivirus temporarily while launching but with no results.

Some AV software doesn't seem to disable as completely as one might think. You might also try adding the DCS folder to the AV software's exclusion list.

set Windows Defender to 'start up type': Manual and 'Windows Firewall': Disabled ? messed about with the Page File, or the Affinity Mask?

I would try installing DCS on one of your other HD's (not the SSD) and launch from there, just to rule out the drive. (I'm not saying it's faulty, it's just a process of elimination).

Windows 10 Home, Intel Core i7-9700K @ 4.6GHz, Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming (8GB VRAM) on 34" LG curved monitor @ 3440x1440, 32GB RAM, TrackIR 3 (with Vector Expansion), Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Combat Pedals, Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs.

Have you tried running it with no input devices at all?

You may also need to rename your input folder in user / saved games / dcs / config (as a backup) and then run the game again. The game will rebuild that folder... see if it helps.

I haven't understand this passage ( English is not my language as you can see from my post ), can you clarify?

Windows Firewall is disabled.

Windows Defender is always disabled as I use AVG Antivirus.

"messed about with the Page File, or the Affinity Mask?" I haven't a clear idea of what is it??

I have a feeling it is. People ran the beta alongside their installations, and I'm sure others keep older, stable versions alongside the current release. Not tried it myself though, so don't quote me!

Ran repair and now I have long load times. Was patched before.

You could be correct also by running the beta...

I'm sure it will get fixed in due time. Along with track ir and other misc bugs, etc..

No when I run repair I have to wait only 4-5 minutes, for now it is the only solution to the 14 minutes of wait of default. This happen from the first installation. Updating to the last two official update don't solve the problem. Only some days ago I have found this partial solution, I have never used repair option before.

Not to go off topic but what is wrong with the TrackIR support?

  • 3 months later...

If I click ok it reappear for two three times than it change in the application bar ( you can see the image with a little yellow key appearing). Then clicking ok it return on DCS World and the message "Cannot load debriefing file appear". Then exit DCS and relaunch all seems to work well.

Ok, after trying to install DCS World on another conventional hard disk ( not the dedicated ssd that I have on my PC, dedicated to flightsims ) it seems that this installation start in 3/5 seconds ( like anyone I think ) and all appear to work without problems. Now I will try to update at the last version of DCS and then reinstalling the A-10C to see if all continue to work well...
