ED Team NineLine Posted April 30, 2014 ED Team Share Posted April 30, 2014 I broke out this book last night after a long time up on the shelf, I have just put it beside the puter so I can start reading through it again. Its a pretty good book, good pilot stories, nice drawings in the back. I decided to look online to see if I could pick up another one, for the purpose of hacking up if I wanted to scan some of the drawings or something... its going for 100 up to 250 CDN, used :) I guess I wont be buying another copy any time soon... perhaps I should put mine in plastic :) Anyone else have any of those WWII books they bought from the book store on clearance and all of a sudden they are worth a bunch? I am pretty sure I picked this one up for 10 bucks or less.... Sharpe
I build a rather extensive collection of books that way, but clearance sales still dont beat the stuff I've gotten out of secondhand bookstores.
Charly_Owl
I got Spitfire: The History by Eric Morgan and Edward Shacklady in a remote Ontario library. It was practically brand new, and I paid about 60 bucks for it. You can guess my reaction when I actually found out how much a new copy of this book is sold on amazon (about 400 bucks). http://www.amazon.ca/Spitfire-History-Eric-B-Morgan/dp/0946219109/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398889476&sr=8-1&keywords=Spitfire+shacklady Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Chuck's Guides on Mudspike Chuck's Youtube Channel Chuck's Patreon
ED Team NineLine Posted April 30, 2014 Author ED Team Share Posted April 30, 2014 Yeah, its funny how at some point these books came out and were not popular at all, and now that probably attributes to why they are worth more.... low numbers available and the subject matter has gained more interest.... Sabre-TLA
You should get Spitfire II The Canadians by the same author Robert Bracken. It's equally as good as the first and currently much cheaper: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Spitfire-II-The-Canadians-by-Robert-Bracken-1999-Hardcover-/261425335865?pt=US_Nonfiction_Book&hash=item3cde2a0e39&_uhb=1 MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates

Very pleasant to fly, very controllable, predictable and steady. Redglyph
I got Spitfire: The History by Eric Morgan and Edward Shacklady in a remote Ontario library. Wonder if someone will ever buy it... Perhaps, for the sole purpose of speculation? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spitfire-History-Eric-B-Morgan/dp/0946219109/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470558018&sr=8-1 Note how it depends on the Amazon store you select. I had seen something similar with mechanical calculators on eBay, the famous (or is it?) Curta. You can see prices going high up and down. They can reach a couple thousand pounds when they are in good condition, so some people are now in the job of buying damaged ones, refurbishing them and selling them with a very good profit. That's weird, if you look at it, they are restoring old devices nobody wanted anymore since the electronic calculators came to the public - but then you can say the same about art, paintings is a good example. Granted, it's the product of a genius, and are great piece of work! People were actually using those in car racing, for instance, being on the field and having to perform calculations quickly enough. But even better, and you don't see that with art: those with a serial number which is a prime number fetch a much higher price. How insane is that? System specs: Win7 x64 | CPU: i7-4770K | RAM: 16 GB | GPU: GTX 980 Ti 6 GB | Thrustmaster HOTAS | MFG rudder pedals | SATA3 SSD | TrackIR
