Thrustmaster Combined and Axis problems

I am still using DCW 1.27 and Win7and have recently been trying to learn BS2. I have tried several target profiles, but in each case, when I load the profile in target and then start the game and go to the BS2 controls in the game option menu, then Axis, under the column Thrustmaster Combined, none of the axis commands will highlight with a white square so I am not able to assign an axis.

If I don't load a target profile, I get two separate columns in the axis control screen and I can highlight a command and assign an axis.

I don't think this is normal. What is going on?
