Ah ok. TY

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

As you can see, we have a 20°, 4m/s wind at 10m, a 310°, 6m/s wind at 2000m and a 270°, 8m/s wind at 8000m.

However, this is not all. As the game engine calculates for a natural drop in wind speed at very low altitude, it needs to upscale the wind speed above. We have already entered the wind speed for 10 meters, but the wind speed for most of the bottom layer of wind will be TWICE (2x) that entered in the ME.

So in fact, we will have a maximum wind speed of 8m/s from about 350 to 650m.

So layer by layer we actually have:

10m 020° 4m/s

500m 020° 8m/s

2000m 310° 6m/s

8000m 270° 8m/s

We now have our layers.

The mission editor displays in which direction the wind is blowing to. The CDU shows the direction from which the wind is coming, and it shows the magnetic, not the true bearing. So to convert these bearings we need to add 180 to any values below 180, and subtract 180 from any values above 180, to get the bearing on the opposite side of the compass rose. Then we need to subtract 7° to get the magnetic bearing.

Eg. 020° + 180° = 200°

200° - 7° = 193°

We also need to convert all wind speeds from m/s to knots. This is easy, just multiply each value by 2.

So what we end up with for the CDU is:

10m 193° 08 knots

500m 193° 16 knots

2000m 123° 12 knots

8000m 083° 16 knots

Now we need to enter this data into the CDU during flight.

My English is very poor. Please try to understand what I mean.

First of all, thank you to make the practical numerical conversion software.

On this topic, I want to know is:

1.Why is 2 times of coefficient,instead of 1.87 times, 2.3 times.........

2.How to get "about 350 to 650m" ?

Not working? Every 6-8 months someone pops up and claims that there are problems ...

What is this this time - which is not covered in the 2-3 long threads regarding this topic(s)?

It is covered here...

Under 6000' CCRP steer points are all over the place until release

Wind correction doesn't seem to help with CCRP even with 5mil consent. Bombs are sill 50-100' off

The same settings with CCIP allow mk82 drops right on target.

This has been the issue for a long time, and I've tried all sorts of methods to measure wind speed at altitudes including noting the wind on the CDU itself as I climb.

Tbh, the last time I worked myself through the threads I was refering to was at least 6 months ago. And as those threads also meander back and forth about a lot of details, I can't really say if this specific issue was covered or investigated back then. I only remember that the overall conclusion was, that CDU wind correction does work (i.e. it was broken but was then finally fixed), but is simply no silver bullet to all difficulties when it comes to precisely hitting stuff with dumb bombs.

So, could you perhaps post a link or something to the bug report here on the bug forums?

If I don't have any wind info on the mission, I usually read the wind values off the CDU as I climb out. If you're entering these as you go, make sure the wind correction is set to NONE, to make sure you're getting the aircraft's readings, not the one's you've manually corrected for. And then of course, once you have all your layers punched in, remember to set it back to WIND or BOTH, to make sure your changes are taken into account.

^^THIS has made my life easier.

I've tried it with multiple wind settings and works each time. Yeah u still have the Dumb part of the dumb bombing, but it's close enough.

Thanks a lot.

Maths are universal language, they say...

1 NM = 1852 m

1 h = 3600 s

1 NM/h = 1 KT

1 m/s = 1 m/s * (1/1852 NM/m) * (3600 s/h) = 3600/1852 NM/h = 1.94 NM/h = 1.94 KT ~ 2 KT

he set up in ME

"at 10m 4m/s

at 2000m 6m/s"

why So layer by layer we actually have:

10m 4m/s

500m 8m/s

2000m 6m/s

4X2=8

attachment.php?attachmentid=112982&stc=1&d=1423905746

why is 8m/s at 500m?

why is not 9m/s at 500m?

why is not 9.37m/s at 500m?

why is not 7.84m/s at 500m?

I think the 2 times coefficient, has nothing to do with the unit conversion.

My english is poor, can you understand me?

2x

It's 2X because the this is the way engine calculate wind speed, it's not a natural phenomena, it's a computed one, so if at 10m altitude you have 10m/s wind at higher altitude (eg. 500m ) you get the DOUBLE so 20m/s until you reach the next layer at 2000m.

I get confused by this too, and i slightly changed the excell program setting it a 2.2 coef. at 4000ft. But i still don't know if i did it right, probably not.

JTAC measures wind at zero level. Not sure if dynamic weather systems zones share the same as ATC wind measurement. I'd love to be wrong.

Wish we had the ability to see the wind as CA player acting as JTAC...

You can, indirectly. As long as there are factories or chimneys in the area, it should be possible to estimate wind direction and strength from their smoke, or you could use Willie Petes for the purpose.

OTOH, from the cockpit perspective I usually need to see at least two chimneys/smoke columns because from most angles it's very difficult to see which direction the smoke actually blows. Still, might be worth trying.

sorry to revive this old thread guys, but I have one question.

Doesnt the wind data on the steerpoint or waypoint page already helps when dropping unguided bombs?

There are different layers of wind. You will get an automatic adjustment for the wind at the altitude that you drop the bomb at, but it won't adjust for any of the layers the bomb falls through.

That's why you have to go through the steps as I described for maximum accuracy.
