Im more interested in how this will do in MP against the FC3 planes. The point and shoot crowd will have a field day against this. Not stopping me be from buying it because I love the complexity, but will be a challenge.

 

I agree, and I think I'm most interested in the MiG because of the challenge. It doesn't seem like going head-to-head with Eagles or Fulcrums will be much of an option simply because of the wide gap in technology and capability, so we Fishbed drivers will have to get clever. :)

 

Though to be honest I am looking forward to simply learning to fly the thing, without worrying about weapons at first. I sounds like it's quite the handful to keep in a straight line!

Pitting a 1950's-era Interceptor against modern jets is useless mission-design.

 

In any event, pilot-skill being equal, FC3 fidelity does not make it any easier or harder in the Mig: It's just as easy to set up the weapons-systems in the Mig and in the end-game it's also just point-and-shoot with the 21.

If you have only AIM-9 missiles - i don`t think the MiG-21 will be an easy target.

 

 

This framework for MP session, could work:

Say you want to simulate a conflict like 1979 between IAF and Syrian Arab Air Force - you will have MiG-21s vs. F-15A. And the F-15C have only AIM-9 heatseekers (no AIM-7 or AIM-120!)

 

The only problem, i see, a MiG-21 is only an intercepter (short range) and the F-15C is an air superiority aircraft with a much longer operating range.

Combat maneuvers more than tactics.

 

There is a chapter talking about the basic aerobatics and maneuvering (split-s, immelman turn etc), and some basic suggestions that how you can use them in combat (to air/ground), as well as combinations of them for practice.

 

While for combat part, the manual mainly suggests: how to practice switch operations in a more efficient way (since to launch/fire weapons, there are plenty of operations in a strict sequence for each weapon system.), what kind of meters you should pay most attentions during combat, how to distribute your attention to environment/foe/friend/cockpit, and cooperation. Although not much about tactics, they are valuable experience for beginners flying a completely new AC (e.g. Me :D ).

Dogfight beetween MiG-21bis and F-4E Phantom, guns only. Just for test only.

On a large angle of attack engine has a problem with "hold the air". Truly nice effect (sound and flow problems, warning lights on too).
