159th_Viper
:helpsmilie: I wonder if the radar picks up the MiG21 ground units? Thank you! What Mig-21 ground units? In any event, the radar looks up only so will not pick up any ground units in normal flight. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? 159th_Viper
I'm talking about any terrestrial armamente. Radar cannot look down so it cannot see/pick up ground units. Can however engage ground units with air-to-ground ordnance utilizing the radar, together with the ASP, for range calculations only - Radar does not 'lock' ground targets, it only provides distance. In the case of the Kh-66 beam-rider air-to-ground missile, it provides the beam for the missile to 'ride' down to target: You still need to point the radar to the ground in a dive, with radar operating in Fixed Beam mode. uboats
:helpsmilie: I wonder if the radar picks up the MiG21 ground units? Thank you! In elevation, the radar can only scan -1.5 to +17 degrees, therefore not be able to 'see' ground unit. Generally, radar is used in fixed beam mode to measure the distance when diving and attacking the ground unit. mwd2
Just highjack this thread about the radar.... as far as i understand, you have alcohol liquid to cool down the radar and you have the liquids for around 25 min. for active radar operation. How can refill it? - on repair/refuel/rearm on a airfield? Need-To-Know
It sounds fun to fly low and scan up looking for targets, that's how I fly anyway lol My buddy flies real world F5s in an adversary squadron (Red Star and all). I got him to GoPro his time out in Nevada. That is how they were flying that day. He flies low circling a mountain looking up. Talk about use of the mark 1 eye ball. Guy can spot a dot soo far away. So I guess it is a real world tactic of the migs - since that is what they simulate. Fight to fly, fly to fight, fight to win.
