Far as I understand it, that is the goal.

It's not explicitly said in the newsletter. In the same way the Normandy map is supposed to support the WW2 aircraft collection, yet it's released separately. It would seem logical to me to release whichever comes first - as the map can do perfectly well without the aircraft and vice versa ;).

But of course you might know more ;).

Fair enough, but remember, the WWII stuff was thrust upon them, the F/A-18 has always been part of their plans, as well as support items like the map... but we will see, its all just assumptions right now right.

Maybe then we have new PC and exceed recommended specs anyway.

That's not the point. Most of us exceed recommended specs now. The thing is that I like to populate my missions with lots of units all over the place (with scripts it's quite easy to do) but once you get over 100 the game just gets slow because it's just too much for the one core going red hot while the rest is idling. I was under the impression that this is going to change in edge and one of the huge benefits of creating a brand new modern engine will be the ability to take advantage of modern multicore cpus properly. It would be a shame if it weren't the case. :(

The number of units is a feature of EDGE, so you should be able to have more units than you do now. Dont get hung up on the multicore thing, if you have have left over power from the GPU picking up some of it, it will help a lot.

I'm liking everything in the newsletter. but best news is new map and more so the fact it is given more priority over normandy. However I don't see good reasons to not disclose at least general location of that new map. I understand "subject to change" and that things can get canceled. but its not like construction site can be moved easily once concrete foundation is poured (and it sounds like it already was poured)

Not only that. We can probably also assume there will be a large body of water too since Nimitz class carrier is not a tracked vehicle. With that as I said I don't see any practical value in anouncing new map and keeping it hush hush location. Its not like there a chunk of userbase that is going to be lost due to disapointmet those are not coasts of new Zealand that are being modeled.

Are we gonna have to pay for the new f 18 map?

Nothing has been announced as far as that, my assumption is it will be a separate purchase.

Or a bundled deal, i.e. higher price, with the F/A-18C; similar to NTTR and A-10C.

No clue, sure closer to release all will be explained...

Yeah it's my own "guestimation" since they are talking of bringing them out together. Makes the most sense, but I agree we'll know more down the road.

I hope no one has a problem paying a reasonable price for any of the new maps. There are a lot of hours into creating these and they need to be compensated.

Probably include the carrier with the bundle as well ehh?

As I understand it, the carrier is an integral part of the F-18 module...

At least that was my impression.. (So not a bundle or addition, you buy the F-18 you get the carrier as well..)

Anyone out there that can confirm that statement?

The carrier itself will most likely be an update to DCS World. That's not counting on any "controllability" that might come from a Naval Expansion to Combined Arms or a stand alone module.

I don't think you'll have to buy the F-18C to get the carrier, doesn't make sense. It makes more sense to update it in DCS World so third parties can use the updated model and Carrier dynamics - whatever they end up adding in to it.

Well your option of adding it into DCS World certainly makes more sense from a developer point of view.. And since there will be other planes that may use it, I hope my assumption was incorrect and yours IS the method of rollout!

ditto,

I think updating Carrier Ops code and the carrier model, integrating it into a DCSW Update, which will allow F-18C and any 3rd party or Future ED Naval Aircraft to use it.

ie Russian Carrier Ops didn't come with FC3, FC3's SU-33 just made use of what was already there.

More seriously, these things are considered trade secret for whatever reason ED deems them to be such.
