Disappointed

ED / Moderators, I know last year there were many complaints to the whole ED Sales etc. I want to go on record and say how disappointed I am with the whole sale process this year.

Just so those reading know: I bought 4 modules at full price (I have 2 copies of each now) just 5 days before the summer sale (not knowing the summer sale was about to happen).

I understand sales happen but some of these modules were 50 and 60% off. Now you have answered that query with "suck it up" and I accepted that because that's life and I am extremely supportive of ED and 3rd Party developers.

But now I see from other posts here that the Sabre and Dora were hugely discounted in the final days of the sale.

I'm not telling you how you need to operate / trade but what I am doing is giving you some feedback the only way we have open to us.

Disappointed

Edit: I have pre-ordered the BF109 and Mig21 as well

I bought the Huey ... the MI8 and the Sabre in the month leading up to the sale .. and just got the Mig 21 as well ...

while i understand your frustration like you said you are helping support and grow the sim genre ... at the end of the day you were ready to pay full price so just take this as a lesson learned :)

but i understand where you are coming from !

ED has sales all the time, if you didnt realize that, well you do know, usually one every season. If you are on a budget and can wait, then there will always be a sale coming. Not much else we could say on that. Hardcore fans are always going to buy on day one for full price... the sale prices are to try and get those others off the fence.

Its pretty much how things go, its been this way for a while... I imagine it will continue, so next time it wont be a surprise.

Happens with everything in life unfortunately. Best thing you can do is buy only the modules you really want, and just wait for the innevitable sale for the things you aren't sure about. I got the MI8 the first time it went up for sale, I had little interest in it and rarely fly it so wouldn't have paid for it otherwise, I suspect this is why they have the sales. I was very lucky to get the Sabre at it's very large discount the other day, not sure if that was an error or not but it didn't having around for long. Other stuff like the A-10c, P-51D and FC3 etc, I have no regrets paying full price for even though they have since been heavily discounted. I've had plenty of enjoyment from them.

In general I'd say ED is far and away more considerate and fair than any other developer out there making games of this quality. When I was trying to buy my Fw-190, I accidentally purchased a 2nd F-86, an incredibly stupid move which I totally expected to have to live with. I made a support ticket and 2 days later I saw that they refunded the purchase.

I think it was the release of the Mi-8 where there was a sale soon after the original release and ED ended up giving everyone that had bought it a discount for a future purchase equivalent to the savings.

Nobody does this anymore (or at least it seems that way), and yeah it can be frustrating when you miss the boat on a sale by just a couple days, but you've still got to appreciate the way ED does business. And that's on top of the top-notch, unrivaled products that they develop.

I would really like to know why I wasn't informed about last flash sale? Was it announced by email? I am subscribed to DCS newsletter.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I didn't want to open another new topic about this sale.

Dont think they use the newsletter for the flash sale, its just announced when it starts here and social media, and website, its only 12 hours, so easy to miss...

Perhaps I am not writing this correctly. I accepted the fact that the sale happened 5 days after I purchased however if I had purchased from a local shop you bet I would have been down there to voice my concerns (much as I bet you would have too). But my complaint is that you then discount the sale price further during the sale which is what I believe to be extremely disappointing to everyone who purchased at the higher price during the sale.

I'm trying to be positive and you may not like complaints but the forums are a place where we can celebrate the fantastic products but also voice our concerns and I believe a sale on top of a sale is bad form. I own my own business and just don't treat my customers that way.

Only way I would have returned to a store is if they had a policy that said they matched a sales price if I made my purchase within 5 days (or whatever) of a sale.... ED has no such policy that I know of, so I dont see the issue really.

Python, I have no problems with life being unfair if you re-read my the cocerns. I certainly buy most of the products either as pre-release or on day 1. I actually have 2 copies of at least 5 of the modules.

It is hard to read sincerity in online forums but take it from me, I love DCS and am very supportive of all the modules and 3rd party developers. I also run my own business and understand about customer service, sales and loyalty.

I made a previous compliant to you about the sale being 5 days after my purchase of 4 modules and you replied and I accepted that. The "issue" as I see it is in having a further reduction in price on recently released modules is a slap in the face to all those that purchased the modules at the start of the sale. That is what I am disappointed about. This is not about policy.

As I have said in my posts, I support ED and purchase nearly all of the products at full price as well.

SO you love ED but hate ED :)

Actually I am struggling to figure out what this post is about... Product comes out, product is out for a while, product goes on sale, product goes back to regular price... seems pretty normal...

No slapping in the face... you bought something when it wasnt on sale, simple enough...

As long as ED does not outright lie or mislead, I don't think there is a problem. This has been debated before, and if you've been around the forums you should know how sales work. Some people aren't around and I guess it might be annoying if you find things don't work how you expect them to, but ED isn't really doing anything wrong.

What it comes down to is this; determine how much a module is worth to you and then don't pay for it until it's that price or less. You will never pay more than you think you should. For me the regular prices seem fair so I just buy as soon as a module is available for download. If my module list becomes too long or there are products I'm only slightly interested in, I'll pick them up when I get around to buying them as it seems I'm doing with the Mi-8 that I don't yet own.

No the problem is not that I bought something before the sale, I said I accepted that. Money is not the problem here, principle is.

So I take it that you see nothing wrong with a summer sale, then whilst that sale is not over the price is reduced further again? that the people who bought a module at the beginning of the sale paid a higher price than the people who bought at the end of the sale?

No, I dont see an issue with that.... I assume you mean the Flash sale? I take them as something fun ED does, they have these quick little power sales for 12 hours... I miss them most times, but that's ok... as long as they are making money and things are getting developed I am cool with them running their business as they see fit....

I'm not diminishing your point at all, just offering a perspective of my own.

I can see why you would be disappointed at not getting your products at the cheapest price possible. Not everyone has a budget that can afford splashing money around.

I live on one of those budgets and very often miss the sales because I don't even have 2 coins to rub together.

There are also times ( like the recent flash sale ), where I have bought a product on sale, then seen it's price further reduced after I bought it.

I don't feel that is E.D's responsibility to make that up to me because, IMHO, for what you get when you spend money here, it is worth waaaaay more than the few dollars I missed out on saving.

And really, I think it's just the way life goes. I could point to over 100 times in my life where it has happened and the difference in prices ranged from 100's to 1000's of dollars difference.

It hurts, but you still get what you pay for. It's not like the product is not worth the money spent on it.

i think its crazy we shell out serious coin for a kickass rig ($1k? $2k? more??) - another chunk of change for a HOTAS ($400?) - gotta have Track-IR ($150) - and a decent monitor ($450) - whatabout ergonomics and human-computer interface, gotta get a cockpit (obutto - $1k)

but the software to run this whole experience??

we throw our hat down and stomp the ground if we miss a sale on a $50 game (savings? $10? $20? $40??)

the software is the most important part! i honestly would pay between $1k and $4k for this software - i think that's what its worth

that is what its worth. to. me.

i don't have a problem paying "full price" or (omg! what a deal!) sale price at ED's discounts

anyway.. perspective and rationality

I can sort of see the OP's point but the only thing I'm disappointed about, other than the fact that the sales came at a time that I didn't have the money to buy anything, is that the Steam sales are still going on and if I am right in my thinking I can't use the steam keys on my non-steam install or vice versa!?!

The P-51 is still 60% off for the next 22hrs on Steam, for example!

Having said that, without a proper campaign (a proper dynamic campaign generator, not just the single mission generator we currently have, would go a long way towards fixing that), and coupled with the framerate issues I suffer, I see no reason to buy any further modules. A heavily discounted sale would be the only time I would consider doing so, or if someone gifts me the money as happened with my recent purchase of A-10C.
