Flagrum Posted September 18, 2014 Share Posted September 18, 2014 In the cockpit of the BF 109 are two UV lamps installed - left and right of the front dash board: What are they for, for what purpose do you need UV light in an aircraft? Kurfürst Posted September 18, 2014 Share Posted September 18, 2014 Yes, the UV light was used to light the flourescent gauges in the cocpit. UV lights were used beacause they wouldn't blind the pilot in the darkness compared to traditional bright lighting, and also because they would not to give away the position of the fighters in night operations.
