Synesthesia
Ok, i'm starting to get the hand of it. Yesterday I rewatched a few of the training videos, and i noticed something weird: During the instructor's video, the Huey lifts into a hover, and can get enough speed to get transational lift going, with about 20% collective. However, when i do it, I need well over 60% collective to get hovering. I'll link a few screenshots, so you can see the difference. Is this because my loadout is different, or because the video is made with an older version of the flight model, or am I screwing something up? I noticed the Throttle indicator is different than mine. Thanks in advance!
Flagrum
The Huey in that video is indeed an relatively early version of the module so the handling could be a bit different, yes. But in any case, the total weight is the most important factor. The heavier you are, the more energy you need to take off. Try it with a completely stripped helo and a 1/4 fuel and you will probably see a huge difference.
sondo214
True wind (from 12 o'clock) can be a factor that lower torque is needed to takeoff. Also the closer you hover to the ground (even as low as 2-3 ft) and smoothly transitioning to fwd flight can reduce the needed torque...
Cibit
Look to expect a reading of just under 30% torque in a slick version when entering hover from stationary start. this is about all you need to then trim for forward motion and as spped builds translational lift occurs and then you will find you need to reduce collective i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
b00ce
That video was done before they "re-rigged" the flight controls. Its the same ammount of torque to get into a hover, just more collective input. In all reality, the amount of torque required to pull a hover should be what you're using to measure power, not collective position.
